Im from tropical Australia, but religiously watch Atomic Shrimp, he is an English gentleman who does a whole array of videos, including foraging and cooking content. This is very reminiscent of that and I love it. Great work as always Alex
Biggest tip I've come to learn with foraging is that the absolute best place to forage is your walk to work or college or to the train station or whatever local route you do year-round; by seeing the plants you walk past all the time change through the seasons you can learn so much about stuff specific to your local area, identify different plants and trees and how they change throughout the year, and all for almost no time or effort investment. Another thing is that a lot of oldschool foragers (especially mushroom guys for some reason) will try to scare you or tell you off for using todays' plant-id apps- take it all with a massive grain of salt. There are dangers to eating from certain families and being careful about identification is wise, and oldschool local foragers can be a great resource, but deaths and injury from foraging are incredibly rare and a sensible approach and a little respect is all you need.
Thanks alex, thanks for everything. Just videos alone doing stuff i like im from midwest usa. Seeing you foraging over the years, beehive, mushrooming, just getting your own air. I appreciate you doing that and recording it. EHAS
This is the first video I have ever watched on foraging! I spend a lot of time outdoors walking my dog, fishing, camping etc but I'm totally clueless when it comes to foraging. This video was great, it's fantastic to see your enthusiasm and Marlow's passion shine through, and his daughter helping to cook was adorable. Would love to see more!
Wow, this is great! I used to go foraging for my horses when they were still around. They loved dandelions and thistles and hawthorn. I like hawthorn too, it is one of my favourites and I even grow hawthorn on my balcony. I had no idea you could eat the leaves. Definitely going to try that! You also solved the grass ring mystery xD
Whe he pulled out that leatherman my heart melted ❤ my dad gave me one before he passed away and I keep it with me always ❤ highly recommend ❤😢 I never seen anyone with one made me smile ❤
Marlow is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to foraging, I find myself watching his channel very often. I also own his book that was shown in this video and it has helped me second to none when it comes to learning how to identify edible plants when I am out and about. One day I'd love to go on a knowledge walk with him, and you too Alex. Also great video brother 👍
You said at the beginning that people rather have the comfort of going to a shop and not having to search for their plants, but when you're as knowledgable as Marlow, you just walk down a path for 5 meters and have basically a full meal with a bunch of different flavours at your fingertips
I'm a chef and was watching your videos and love them all and I have learnt a lot about mushrooms I have a tip for you for cooking when your cutting something on a chopping board if you put a damp cloth/towel under the board it will not move around while your cutting your ingredients
Alex, you champ.. you've done it again!!! Made one of the most interesting videos on the whole of youTube. I learned more in this video, than I've learned all week. Well done. Now I am going to have to make time to have a look, see what i find in the 2 valleys on the east side and west side of my farm. I know they usually have all kinds of berries, but now I need to see what else I can find in them both. Great family day! Maybe we can find all sorts of edibles, that we can take to the market with us and sell. I am a "Farm to Table Organic Grower, so anything we grow or find, goes to market. [2] Why weren't you gathering all those Dandelions for making Dandelion Wine?? I have a farmer neighbor who demands us to collect all our's for him, to make gallons of Dandelion Wine. [3] Let's take stock in your expertise: 1- A Fisherman; 2- A Chef; 3- A Baker; 4- A Pizzaiolo; 5- A Gardener; 6- A Sprouter 7- A Beekeeper; 8- A Forager; 9- A Camper; 10- A Van Designer/Builder; 11- A Knifesmith; 12- A Skiier; 13- A Surfer; 14- A Hiker; 15- A Painter; 16- A Mycologist; 17- A Traveler; 18- A Videographer/photographer; 19- An Influencer; 20- And a Oompa Loompa!! Did I miss anything in that long list? Thank you again for the most entertaining/Interesting video. It's fantastic!!
Its going to be a good year, i love it when you can read the story nature is telling us. Marlow is brilliant. I learned by just getting out and doing it
I really enjoy your videos, I'm glad that your family is happy to keep you at home so that you have the ability to keep making these interesting vids and I really hope for your success in the youtube community to be able to support you long term!
This guy knows a lot about mushrooms 🍄 it's very cool I don't known why but yesterday you popped up on my video list keep up your travels and meeting new friends.
Thank you so much for sharing this invaluable foraging information. We thoroughly love watching your videos, they are so wholesome! Hopefully our tiny channel can one day bring as much joy to others as yours does to us 😄Have a great day!
Hallo Alex, again a wonderful video. Thank you both. A few years ago I met a female herbalist (some call them Kräuterhexe (in Germany). She Said: Go outside into your Garden. The herbs you find there are the herbs your body/soul need. 😊 Discovering eatable wild plants ist fascinating. Btw: The German name of Hedge Garlic is Knoblauchrauke, means *Garlic Rucola*. Herzliche Grüße aus Deutschland von Annette
my grandmother used to make roasted stinging nettle, she had so many knowledge about foraging. I wish she had a chance to teach us before she died. roasted stinging nettle is very common in turkey.
Nice video Alex! Thanks to Marlow for sharing his wisdom and knowledge with everyone. The food looks delicious ❤ Thanks for another sharing another great video!
This was my perfect video! I love Marlow have been following his videos for a while now and I loved coming foraging with you both! So inspiring and informative as always Alex :)
I can't find a source anywhere for any good psychedelics in my area, I suffer some pretty bad depression and i got a chance to try K and man it was a miracle substance, I felt free, the only high or euphoria was from the relief of my vices being released, that's exactly what it did
Mushroom completely turned my life around and my anxiety and panic attack disappeared and my personality changed into a much more generous loving person
Nice one, Alex. There's plenty of new treats for you to find when you next go out on your own and so many what you walk past every day and never realised keep up the amazing work alex 🌿🍄🍄🍄😁👍
Another thing worth noting about foraging for edibles that you didn't mention is nutrition- the overwhelming majority of UK supermarket produce available these days is monoculture and uses commercial fertiliser and is very low in nutrition compared to it's wild counterparts and while farmers markets and home grown produce can help add some nutrition back into your diet, foraging is another incredibly powerful and free option. Unlike supermarket foods, a lot of storage and processing of foraged foods like lacto fermentation actually adds nutrition.
Alex, I’d love to see you prepare a meal made entirely from foraged/caught ingredients, I.E fish prepared with a wild salad. Love your content, keep going mate!
Great video, amazing. The people should remember that just a few decades ago lots of people got ther food by foarging. I need a course here in Hamburg to learn more about this :)
I love the idea of foraging and want to do it, but I just know I'll do something stupid. Last year I found myself some chicken of the woods, but when I took it home I found it had some kind of pine tree needles inside it and after researching found out you shouldn't eat it if it's grow on certain trees, but I couldn't remember what I found it on. So, I just threw it away as I didn't want to poison myself. Also I cringe when people pick up plants in the middle or just to the side of countryside well walked paths, I'm a full time dog walker and they piss everywhere, not a minute goes by without one of the dogs marking, so personally I'd walk a few metres away from the paths if I was going to eat unwashed, uncooked plants lol. As usual another great inspiring video, thanks Alex.
Im from tropical Australia, but religiously watch Atomic Shrimp, he is an English gentleman who does a whole array of videos, including foraging and cooking content. This is very reminiscent of that and I love it. Great work as always Alex
Thanks for the recommendation im always searching for similar channels, I’m from Perth

I was half-expecting/hoping Alex to go to Shrimp HQ. I think it would be a great combo.
Marlow is incredibly knowledgable, lovely of him to invite you out and share some of that knowledge first hand. Thoroughly enjoyed it Alex.

Love this. Learning how to identify plants is probably the most important survival skill there is. So fundamental :) love it!
What an absolute treat this video was! Nature is amazing! Thank you.
Your cheerfulness, enthusiasm and curiosity are inspiring!
I could watch you two all day, I find your videos so relaxing, and I always learn something!
your channel really has inspired me to learn more about the edible food in the Swedish countryside, love all that you do and tech us. thanks alex
Brilliant collaboration! I've been following Marlow's channel for years, he's so knowledgeable.

Had a shitty day, much better now. Thanks for posting. Alex is that guy you want in your crew when the zombies come!
Exactly what I was thinking. When it comes down to it, I have no idea what's good to eat and what's not. Very useful skill to have.

I'm now booked onto the wild Food UK course in June at Thetford (Suffolk)..
Have you ever seen corn smut? It's a delicacy. It's a fungus that gets in the corn. They say it tastes like a combo of corn and a mushroom.

Great video great to learn some new knowledge. Those books look great.

Now I want to go out and get some mushrooms
this is really really interesting we had so much stuff we could eat and that we did eat back in the day but we have almost forgotten about it
