This was a monster hit back in the day. Guys you probably don't realize that you just listened to the most played and listened to song of the entire 20th century. Actual fact !!!!!!
These guys were so awesome when they came out in 1964. I was in high school, and we couldn't buy their 45's fast enough. They sold out so fast. You need to listen to other hits such as Soul and Heart Inspiration, You'll never walk alone, just to name a few of their hits. I have all of their vinyl record albums in my collection. RIP Bobby! We miss your beautful voice. ❤❤❤❤
She said it's alright 😢 . She got no soul....This is blue eyed soul ...How about a panty dropper from them but Bobby Hatfield goes solo ....Unchained melody
That deep vocal is called a Baritone. A Soprano is the absolute highest vocal, usually attributed to women. While Countertenor is the highest pitched male voice, with Tenor being in the midrange. Alto is the female equivalent to the Baritone. These two pretty much cover them all. 🤣❤
The song was written for the Righteous Brothers by Mann and Weil, top songwriters for decades. Bill was drawing on his feelings alright. His girlfriend had left him the year before and he was devastated. By the time they recorded this song, Bill and Karen were reunited and were married but he called on his all too recent memories to give this song it's anguish.. A sad note ... some 12 years later Karen was assaulted and murdered in a home invasion....
Their names aren't Righteous...they were singing outside a Marine base, and after one of their songs, a Marine stood up and said "you're Righteous, brothers!" and they adopted that as their name!
No, they were working in a club down south and after their first show, a guy stood up and yelled out : "That's righteous, brother!". I don't know where the marine thing comes from, seen it in a bunch of comments.
@@SusieAnderson-ds7dq That's true. I hope that i didn't come off as rude, as that wasn't my intention. Just wanted to correct it a bit, as i re-watched the "Unchained Melody" performance last night, where Bobby tells the story and it was fresh on my mind.
@@Qalibrated No, that's fine...so long ago...I guess being a veteran, the Marine aspect was the one I thought was really cool, and never actually heard the other version! Either way, what a great bunch of singers those years produced...we won't see their like again!🥰
@@QalibratedIt comes from the fact that a lot of black marines from the El Toro base came to the Black Derby club where they were performing. It was those guys who were yelling 'that's righteous, brother!'
Bobby Hatfield, high voice, did a live solo version of "Unchained Melody" in 1965 on the Andy Williams show. The clip is all over You Tube. Try that one. It's awesome!
I used to fall asleep listening to the radio and unchained melody would always come on. It's only sung by the other guy. These gentlemen were pure talents
Bill Medley, the tall guy with the deep voice is a baritone, a mid-range male voice. Bill can probably also dip down into a bass (the lowest male range). Bobby Hatfield is a tenor, a high male vocal range. He may even be called a counter tenor which means he can sing up into the even higher ranges, e.g. the soprano range.
Not gonna lie (I’m 42) first time I heard these dudes….. thought they were black 😂 what can I say man smooth as hell cut from that Al Green cloth man phenomenal.
bill medley is a base-baritone tone with the really low notes, bobby hatfield is a counter tenor, his high notes are natural and not forced like a falsetto .
"Unchained Melody." "Soul and Inspiration." "I Just Want To Make Love To You." "Ebb Tide." "Rock 'n' Roll Heaven." are just a handful of songs by The Righteous Brothers. The genre was known as Blue-Eyed Soul.
The higher voiced one, check out “Bobby Hatfield - Unchained Melody” it’s honestly absurdly good, better than this one, give it a shot on your own time even 🤙🍻
I love you my brother and sister....and I'm not a democrat and I'm a white male. (swear to God), so let's bring back that lovin feeling, cuz it's gone.....
There are four basic names for voice ranges with addition subdivisions of those four. The four are, soprano, alto, tenor and bass (SATB). The higher voiced females are sopranos. The lower voiced females are altos. The higher voiced males are tenors and the lower voiced males are basses. Each of those four is broken down into sub-categories. Sometimes, they are listed as first and second soprano, first and second alto, first and second tenor and first and second bass (not to be confused with second base🤣). First bass (higher part of bass range) is also known as baritone which is what Bill Medley is. Bobby Hatfield is a tenor.
I thought that she fell asleep while listening to this.,she didn't like this at all...lol...poor girl ..ya tortured her making her listen to this... I liked the song...I am with her ..it was ok.! ...wish it move a little better during all of slow parts..was a little too slow for too long...the duo high & low parts at the end, was the best part of the song....
That was NOT a little squeaky voice! Jeez. Bobby had a something like a 4-octave range. Check out the live (Andy Williams show 1965) version of his hit, "Unchained Melody".
There is a better video- more up to date. Actually, this song is the most played ever . And the Rigteous Brothers were the best ever, though the sixties and seventies has terrific music. (So did the fifties)
This is a better video...not over dubbed, and not that video with the horrible bored looking girl. The video you watch was from Top of the Pops in London. I dont think the dancers were even there. The video I added is live from the show Shindig. ruclips.net/video/03iSUjHaUxY/видео.htmlsi=8KeEGdICWv04o90P
I love the song!!!! And the artist’s but I will not be following you! You interrupted only SECONDS from the start. LISTEN to the song!!!!! 😅THEN respond!!!
Bill Medley is a baritone. Bobby is a tenor.
Bobby was a countertenor, one of the rarest voices.
"Me and little brother would join right in there..." lol
This was before auto tune. This is just pure raw talent. Love your reactions!
Actually auto tune back then was when you took your car to the service station for new spark plugs and a tune up.

Awesome trivia tidbit! Thanks.
@@catmanpc9166this, of course, is per BMI. A fact!
These two men were a fabulous duo. The tenor of Bobby’s voice combined with the baritone of Bill were a match made in heaven.
Bobby was a counter tenor
"Blue-eyed soul" at its best!❤ That is what the Righteous Brothers singing was called. This was the most requested song played for years.
That song was played on the radio more than any other tune.
bobby hatfield has 2 mega hits as solo, unchained melody and summertime (bobby comes close to breaking the sound barrier in this song)
They were awesome. They were not famous when I first heard them but you
knew they were GOLDEN.
One of the best songs of the 20th century
One of the all-time BEST!
Bill Medley is a baritone and Bobby Hatfield was a counter tenor.
Top shelf blue eyed soul.

Big Guy is Bill Medley. Little guy is Bobby Hatfield, who died unfortunately. Bobby sant "Unchained Medlody", which is great.
Omg squeaky voice. I think NOT. Bobby had a beautiful counter tenor voice.
This is one of the most requested songs in history
Pure talent. There was no auto tune back then. You should react to Unchained Melody.
First time I saw this video. Great quality and seems live with upgraded sound quality.... Thanks.

The sheer energy in their performance is awe-inspiring. Btw I can't wait to see your genuine reaction to Nick Thurl Mavromatis' new song 🤘
Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield were known for their 'blue eyed soul'. They are still performing & have show's right now in Las Vegas. Love it.
Sorry to say that Bobby tragically died in his early sixties.

Listen to "Unchained Melody". It'll knock your socks off.
What's so funny about the alto(high) voice?
Cher was a backup singer!
If you you watch Top Gun this was the song Tom Cruise used to pick up a lady from the bar where all the other pilots were at.
Try The Righteous Brothers - (You're My) Soul And Inspiration (1966)

Sorry but you really can’t take someone seriously who doesn’t know what a soprano is
They want to learn and that's commendable.
No auto-tune like todays BS.
This was when music was real, not the junk you hear today.
