I didn't hate it. But I went in expecting a mindless popcorn flick and that's exactly what I got so I wasn't disappointed. I honestly didn't know why critics/audiences were so hard on it, were they expecting 2001: A Space Odyssey? It's a sci-fi/action/video game movie and I've seen much dumber movies in all three genres that get more love than Doom.

Some gems that I feel are sadly underrated or overlooked:
    1. Demons (1985)
    2. Possession (1981)
    3. Phenomena (1985)
    4. Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973)
    5. The Tenant (1976)
    6. Vamp (1986)
    7. Nightmare City (1980)
    8. Night of the Demons (1988)
    9. Zombie 3 (1988 I think)
    10. Curtains (1983)
    11. Cheerleader Camp (1988)
    12. Maniac (1980)

It has a great cast, has a really creepy atmosphere & soundtrack, & is probably one of the more fondly remembered films in Carpenter’s body of work. Maybe in the future he’ll touch upon it, I’d love to hear his thoughts on The Fog.

I love the Mario Bros movie and I love the fact that it is a Mario movie. The way you have to go into it is with a mindset that the events of the movie are the adventures of the REAL "Super" Mario Brothers and the games are suppose to be "kid-friendly-video-gamified" adaptions of those events. Like the Mario bros decided to go on TV to talk about everything that happened, became super-stars and then a young Miyamoto really liked the story and decided to make a video game series based on it.

Two underrated gems In my humble opinion (which are polar opposites of each other): The Ninth Gate and The Devil’s Rejects. The Ninth Gate wasn’t terribly scary, but had a building bizarre, unsettling vibe that grew to the climactic ending. The Devil’s Rejects wasn’t as absurdly gory as House of 1,000 Corpses, but still had lots of shocks while maintaining a kind of Tarantino-like anti-hero subtext to the Firefly clan.

    • @SB-Out51d3R-
      @SB-Out51d3R- 4 года назад

The 9th Gate is hardly ever mentioned & seems to count as "under-rated",from what I can see here...
I don't think anyone can count any of the "House of 1000" movies as "under-rated" really...
      The 1 U mentioned is actually his HIGHEST-RATED movie of ALL that he's done,so far(almost 7-out-of-10)...
However,if you're naming 1,I'll mention my FAV of his "lesser-known/under-appreciated" 2. That is,both "31" AND "The Lords of Salem" are equally under-rated(and NOT part of any well-known series of his)...
However,I prefer the cerebral to the physical,in this case...
Meaning,I liked "The Lords of Salem",more than "31". Altho,I enjoyed both movies,I think the overall "creepiness" & "atmospheric/haunting" horror of "TLoS" is more interesting & it has a better story/setting,overall...
Not sure it counts as "Under-rated" except in the LITERAL sense tho(it's only got a score of 5-out-of-10,apparently)...

Anyway,"Deep Red" is an AMAZING early "slasher" with detective/thriller/suspense elements mixed-in. And,it's "dark" locations(literally, given the natural lighting,in most cases) give it a really somber/lonely feel. Which, makes it a GREAT "atmospheric" movie,as well...
      VERY good movie! :)

I agree with Justin on Doom. I love that movie.
My favorite underrated horror(ish) movie is Saturday the 14th. Absolutely phenomenal horror comedy that I'd love to see a Rental Review on.

The Wicker Man from 1973, I never see anyone talking about it, even if I consider it more of a suspense
