I have a similar tool made by a german manufacturer.. Point is I use it mostly for stainless steel recondition and polishing. As said an affordable tool and useful too!!! Congrats Kyle and keep up the good work!

Do you have a dust collector system in your garage? I stress alot when I have an engine build project going and try to avoid any jobs that will fly dust particles everywhere!
Great video! I have a very similar tool at work, id be lost without it!! But those "special" drums have been around for a long time here in Germany
I just bought one of these. IMHO it can't be beat for stripping thick layers of paint, epoxy, and filler with the black poly drums. I was quite surprised that it even comes with a spare set of motor brushes.
Looks pretty cool. I've use a pneumatic tool very similar to that. It had an air bladder for the drum with a scotchbright cylindrical pad that slipped onto it. Great to have in certain situations. We used it to finish polish large stainless steel idler rolls.

Have been using a similar tool to that for 4 or 5 years now? Working in a Blacksmith shop we use it for Graining Rails done in Bronze or Stainless Steel.

Wish I had this tool back in the early '80's. Used paint stripper, and razorblade scrapers to get 3 layers of paint off the '57. Watched the Eastwood video a few weeks ago, and I'm really tempted to try it out after watching your video. Thanks for posting links. This tool has great reviews in their comment section, and the lead warning that I didn't think about. Reminded me of the lead body work we found while stripping the paint. Need to contact customer service to see if free shipping also applies to Canada. You could start a new channel called You Wish You Had This Tool Fool, showcasing Eastwood Tools.

Could this be used on stainless to give it a "brush stainless" look? I've been curious about picking one of these up because I got a 63 ghia I'm going to start working on and the body needs alot of love...lol to put it mild

Yeah, I'vev been working with stainless steel for years, all the way from fabrication to surface finishing, and linear burnishers like the one in the video are quite amazing tools since they fulfill a bunch of use cases which rotary tools won't cut it. The ONLY problem with them is that the media is very expensive (for quality). I've got a Festool 14-23E and like any german company, they charge and arm and a leg. One of the best purcahses I made for this tool was the Dynabrade 3-1/2"x5-1/2" inflatable wheel that has a common 5/8"-11 female threaded arbor uses standard 3-1/2"x15-1/2" belts which are not only more aggressive than the usual 4"x4" flap drums these burnishers utilize

If only this was 240v and came with different plugs for different countrys. I'd buy one for my workshop in a second. Looks like a very handy tool. Great review as always!

Ah I wish this was out when I was at this stage in my build, i would love to see how this performes against the (rubber stone chip stuff ) removing that stuff was such hard work as it seems to get hot/melt and spread around like butter lol....... A vacuum attachment would be nice for this tool and different width drums to allow getting in to the tighter places.

That's a pretty sweet tool. It's based off of the Motabo Burnishing tool, but like you said it's off to one side, however Metabo does have a tube sander/polishing attachment that's awesome to have. Dollars to donuts the Eastwood probably costs about $700 less so for the money I'm gonna go with the Eastwood

i see some comments just hating on this tool...it is actually pretty dam nice...i have sanded on car parts usually with a electric orbital sander ...this tool out performs it for sure ..but only on specfic

I have a Metabo and a Bluerock brand, and I've used a Fein. I've never found any of those being unwieldy just because the drum was off to the side. The Fein was the best one, and felt pretty good to hold for a long period of time. However, @ $900 it's a tad pricey. Metabo is about $600. The Bluerock brand is only $175 and comes with 4 different drums. I never used a Flex, but those are also German, and look to be the lightest of all of them.
Basically all of these use the same Metabo shaped drum keyed hole on the arbor. But you need to know just how expensive those pads and flap wheels are upfront. Even a bulk box of import wheels will set you back close to $290 for only 20 wheels! And the harder you push, the more they wear down, obviously. (They are called Burnishing Wheels, btw) The stripping wheels load up quickly and don't last very long. Eastwood's version is $60 a pop!
They are really awesome if you know what you are doing, and use them for very specific purposes. You'll most likely already be using them if you know about them. Because quite frankly, the entry point for these tools has always been high and very industry specific. Ever notice Harbor Freight has never brought one over, even though there are Chinese versions close to $100 on eBay. When the consumables quickly add up to be higher than the tool for the first job, you really need to be charging pretty high for the work that you are outputting to justify these.
iv seen their videos on this and thought it was so cool. I always questioned it as I do most products until I see it kinda first hand. companies try to over sell things in their videos all the time and to see you use it. shows me its not faulty advertising. I cant wait to see what other things you get from them and any other companies.

good point , lead shouldn't be ground or sanded anyways , bad for your health . Always melt out the lead , bronze/brass brazing i'm not sure about if that is ok to grind
Bare metal/Carbon fiber build for the Bibster would be kick ass. Add a bunch of rivits and that would be my favorite build by far!

This thing is bad-ass & I kinda wanna buy it but the price is a bit steep. How do you think cleaning up metal would be with this compared to a normal angle grinder with comparable disks? I would think this has a bit more of a contact patch so it could work faster.
not sure I have never use an angle grinder...I have heard it kind of wants to torque steer

how loud is it compared to a grinder
no where close to as loud....sounds more like a buffer
I have used these types of drums, they work very well, but be aware, they do not last very long and the cost is extremely high. I checked Eastwood's price on the red scotchbrite drum and it's $20. Others are similar in price, I get mine from Klingspor,(they are not made to fit this tool ), they are a bit less but still expensive on a larger project.

Actually purchased the same machine from E bay at half the price of the Eastwoods machine and does the exact same thing, in fact the drums for the eastwood machine fit the less expensive one.
This really is a good tool. I bought two for a second worker. The drums work well but are too expensive. $59.00 for paint knocker and $49.00 for the drum that goes around bolts and protrusion put my budget at over $500.00 to accomplish a really huge rust removal job. Yet the work went smooth, and fast and eliminated ALL the rust on this sixty year old VW Type 2 18ft Motor home.

Maybe you could do a follow up after some continuous use. I'm wondering how long those drums work. They're pricey, but may be worth it if they last. I like using the stripping discs on my 4.5" angle grinder, but man do they wear out fast and are $$$.

I have one of these, they make quick work of stripping paint. Not much vibration to the arms and I could actually strip a car in a day. Leaves a good surface finish. The drums are sort of pricey though.

You don't need the tool to run those abrasives, and you can get them from a variety of industrial suppliers. I use my angle grinders instead. I also use a Walter version on the RH thread of one of my bench grinders (which also takes screw-on conventional flap abrasives. Before I dropped two bills on that thing I'd spend fifty more to get a Milwaukee 5196 die grinder. I have one and maintained a fleet of them for a welding school. I'd make or have made (by turning down an appropriate bolt) an adapter for the style abrasives shown and have a much more versatile tool. Eastwood might want to carry Milwaukee 5196s because they tough, powerful and last a long time even in daily professional use.

Impressive! Of course, once you're at bare steel it's a good idea to apply a zinc or epoxy based primer on it ASAP or, within a day, you'll see a light coat of rust on the surface.
