I think the point is it's more important to have a shared American identity. Wanna be Irish? Go to Ireland. Want to be African? Go to Africa. If you want to be American, of course you can hold on to some parts of your old culture, but not all. The cohesion of the country is dependent on our shared culture being greater than our differences. That's the point. So while one can of course enjoy a beer or two on spd, we should focus on creating a shared culture for people to assimilate to.
I think it’s because of how missing POC children are treated historically. I think missing black children are more likely to be written off as runaways.
Not when there was an extreme lack of search efforts for black children that have been taken or missing because it’s not a blonde haired white child. This was a big issue in CA and I’m glad they have more of an effort to find these kids now.
It helps to actually look up the difference between an Amber Alert and an Ebony Alert instead of just believing a hack like Bill that the difference is race
I agree. As a person in a mixed race relationship, we sometimes worry that our future children will be forced to "pick a side" when it comes to identity and racial politics/relations and feel alienated. Why do we need to segregate children? Why does our understanding of race need to be so rigid? Why can't people just be who they are?
Every mixed Race kid I grew up with were all messed up in the head and they wished their parents picked someone of the same heritage instead of different
Your future children will learn racism in Democrat ran public schools. My kind, innocent child went to Kindergarten where she learned to become obsessed about skin color (something she never recognized or paid attention to before) & the concept of treating people differently because of the color of their skin. She came home traumatized. Then I caught her segregating her lego figures by the color of their skin. I was (and still am) LIVID that the public school took away my child's innocence. I'd sue if I had the funds. Democrats have permanently lost our votes.
Because humans are social animals and build groups for survival, which is something hardcoded into the human being. There is also natural competition hardcoded into humans. Competition for better social status, resources and mates. This leads compulsorily to competition and conflict between the groups that humans build. It's not others people fault for not accepting your future children, these people are just normal human beings. It's your fault for producing children in a situation which puts their future into jeopardy.
From the 80s! Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the constitutional authority to vote in appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. The Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. the Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does. One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of 238 million- are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Bank because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank. I exclude all of the special interest and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes. Don't you see now the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
you're just describing democracy. In ancient athens, athenian voters voted in more and more government positions until half the voters had government jobs. Then they invaded Sicily and Egypt to pay for those government workers. They didn't have any identity politics.

Having been a child of the 50s/60s I've seen high-octane racism and I saw people with a genuine desire to get past it and move on to being Americans and neighbors -- and we pretty much did just that. FF to the 2010s and race rears its ugly head again, because people with the same insidious designs as there were 60 years ago have resurrected race as a cudgel to beat into submission everyone who dares to question their 'altruistic' objectives. It's gotten a lot of mileage the past 11 years; it's been good sport and soothing to one's ego to claim unto themselves an _identity_ -- something that makes them instantly morally superior to everyone else and with zero effort. The mere fact that you focus on "outcomes" is a tell for what the real agenda is behind the Victim Olympics. Something that has assured shared misery and has never worked anywhere it's been attempted, except for the elites running it. Big problem with identity politics is not realizing the invisible “you don’t matter” sign that everyone you’re not pandering to is seeing. Not if you're white, you can't.
And- it’s a happy day that says “everyone’s Irish on St Patrick’s Day” - it’s a reason to party and that’s good enough! 😂
And you can be allowed to have the same diverse political views and values as anyone else of any identity.
Segregating ABDUCTED CHILDREN is something no dystopian author would come up with. It's too ridiculous, too pointless, too authentically mad.
I think it’s because of how missing POC children are treated historically. I think missing black children are more likely to be written off as runaways.
God dang that was well put. 👏
Not when there was an extreme lack of search efforts for black children that have been taken or missing because it’s not a blonde haired white child. This was a big issue in CA and I’m glad they have more of an effort to find these kids now.
It just changes what the police call the alert. Calm down.
That's ALL demoncRats have!
That's a fun question, considering Maher hates queer teens and is racist.
Identity politics keeps a whole lot of folks employed in "leadership" positions!
Divide and conquer... oldest trick in the book.
👏

@@danielswann3841 "Race matters" because vested political interests _make_ it matter. Something that has assured shared misery and has never worked anywhere it's been attempted, except for the elites running it. The Simpsons did it: ruclips.net/video/fT1jPfD67n4/видео.htmlsi=3qa6AQWftjNqjCCP
Only if we can have Snoopy getting busted by the cops for pissing on a wall, a completely shitfaced Peppermint Patty and Marci going at it hot and heavy next to a dumpster, and Charlie Brown finally snaps and beats the living shit outta Lucy for she yanking the football from him for the last time.
Blasted that monolog out of the stratosphere!! Bravo Mr Maher.
Nah. Still pushing us to Communism.
Bill is the man just a living legend
Being open honest and "poking" fun on both sides of the isle - is real entertainment. Bill you have a great show. Bipartisan political jokes a winner
Spot on. Take a look at the 1%. That’s where the politics really is.
Exactly!
Mr Maher is one of the 1%..
He hates walls and guns while living behind a massive wall in the Hollywood Hills and protected by a bunch of men carrying guns..
More so than ever: they own & operate a growing majority of both sides of the political aisle by owning & operating both sides of the media aisle to control both sides of a growing majority of the electorate. Hitler & countless other dictators, cult leaders, kings, queens, etc. could never imagine having the level of influence over the masses the corporate & cultist ruling class enjoy today, with their capabilities to target & manipulate specific demographics growing by the minute, all to keep those in the sheep distracted by having those in the middle keep hating & fighting with those on the bottom of the social ladder.
actually it's also about the 9% just below them .. that group has 60% of the wealth ...
I wish biden hadn't done so much damage to the country in just 3 years. Record crime, homelessness, inflation, people having to work 3 jobs to survive, open borders,(vote fraud scheme), our once beautiful cities are now zombie/crime wastelands.....people want their America back. That's why we need Trump again and smart people are voting for him now.
The Lady of Justice is typically depicted blind.
I think that means that blind justice is doled out, and if blinded? Too bad.
1. She isn't blind, she's blindfolded.
2. And no, it doesn't mean blind justice is doled out - it means justice does not discriminate based on how a person looks or WHO they are. But on pure facts of the case.
Blind folded and being Blind isn’t the same thing …
We need to reform the justice system top to bottom….
Our Supreme Court judges are cashing in. Who’s buying them ?
Two drunks in a bar had been guzzling for an hour. Finally, one guy turns to the other and says you look familiar.. The other guy says you do too! A few minutes later, the 2nd guy said I went to St Marys High School in 85.. The other guy says, So did I!!
The phone rang, and the bartender picked up.. He said oh not much going on here, just the O'Shaunessey twins just getting drunk again...
St Patricks Day is supposed to be about St Patrick.
This might be the most sensible thing on RUclips at the moment
The diploma divide deserves serious attention. It is real no matter how each side wants to ignore it. Real education, no indoctrination, is the way out of this mess we're in.
Education got us in this mess...
@@courtneymeehan504 I mean it in the real sense. Math. Science. History. Not this social engineering that's being done today.
@@ScaredyCatTactical Ah, ok that I can get on board with.
Enlightenment revival is the only solution. Taking politics, DEI (as it currently is) and geopolitics out of academic institutions is the path forward.
First sane liberal I've heard in a very long time. Completely agree. Thanks for this. I doubt the Democrats will listen though.
Even though I was a gigantic Bill Maher fan at one point… And then shortly after became a huge “unfan”…. you got to give it to him… Sometimes he does speak gems. And this was one of em
I love how the audience reaction has become more supportive of common-sense commentary as extreme social censorship has started losing its grip. Glad to see it. Thanks for consistently towing the common sense line, Bill.
Amen, sir. Identify politics is not liberalism. ^THIS is liberalism.
I'm so ashamed of celebrating my heritage and cooking my grandmother's recipes. I guess I'll just be white bread flag waving murican from now on. Why would anyone be proud of their culture when we have meatloaf and chicken wings we can identify with
To be fair, most "progressives" look down their nose at liberalism, equating it to libertarianism.
30 years ago completing a Sociology degree learning that the Watt's riots were about class, not race. Thank you Bill for saying the real issue in class not race.
In my opinion there is only one race, the human race.
God you're deep.
Try telling that to the woke.
And that is what I answer every time I am asked, including the Census.

New Zealander here and believe me, we're not immune to progressive segregation and identity politics. I think people of all persuasions (as opposed to thinking in terms of us or them) are sick of it. We all (really - ALL) have a lot more in common than we don't.
I'm American and when I think of New Zealand all I think about is woke politics
lol you don't have to tell us New Zealand has a problem with identity politics
Too Bad its so late in the Game Billy Boy. We needed this 30 years ago. But Hey You figured it out. Cheers
I never thought I would say this but Bill makes sense! I love it!
I‘ve been feeling this way for some time. Bout time Bill covered this, again and again and again.
So agree with you Bill. Our clueless mayor in Kansas City Missouri is a black separatist who has organized a committee on reparations, and a“ village “ for LBTGQ people. He has paralyzed the police with false claims of racial profiling and is so tone deaf he implied the Governor was racist for calling the young black men who shot 22 people at a Super Bowl celebration “thugs”. He may be genuinely obsessed with race and orientation but is clearly causing division to further his aims of obtaining a Senate seat. Hopefully the rest of the state of Missouri is not as stupid as Kansas City and will end his political ambitions. He at least reveals a reason why Trump won the State in two elections.
Trump and the RepubliKKKans are winning out of sheer disgust. These "woke" Dems are not actually as destructive as the Conservatards, they only look and feel it. But they are getting there.
Missouri is fictional. One of my slaves is being marketed as mayor of Kansas City, Missouri to you? Others too?
Bill Maher keep doing your thing OG laughter is much needed 👍😁✌️✌️
Damn Bill. So much logic. What the hell ? I have to stop hating you. Damn !
True, but then you hear these communities saying the Dems aren't doing enough for them. So where do you go next?
Ask not what your government can do for you but what you can do for community!!
What communities?
Ignore them? They are called the vocal minority for a reason.
The idiot trump is going to win this election and it's 100% these peoples fault.
What do you think happens when your party only panders to only a small portion of their base, and tells the rest they are wrong and racist.

The best advice I ever got as a young Mexican immigrant who eventually graduated from college was: always vote republican.
Good talk! I've had those feelings for years, nice to hear someone say it so beautifully!
One of the best things about America is that it was supposed to be a “Melting Pot” of many different cultures!
BIG TIME AWESOME....... I am once again a Bill Maher Fan!!!!
While the wider point is reasonable, I disagree on St. Patrick's Day. I think that all cultures should make St. Patrick's Day a model for all cultural holidays. It's just a fun, inclusive, lighthearted day where they generally discuss about oppression or complain about cultural appropriation. Everybody who wants to be Irish on St. Patrick's Day, can be Irish! Every culture should celebrate their holidays this way!
Then call it Irish Heritage Day or something like that. St Patrick was captured by pirates as a young man, was a slave in Ireland for many years, escaped and went home to England, and then returned as a Christian missionary to Ireland. I wonder if he would be pleased with what the holiday named for him has turned out to be. Not likely.
@@DG-gz1oe who cares what he would think. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland so it's basically the Irish national day.
Why would you celebrate another culture’s holiday if you have nothing to do with it? 😂 and I know, you’re “all Irish” somehow and with that you feel you have some right. I also know “this is just how Americans are” and my response is always the same, “what, pricks?”
St Patrick was a Dominionist who forced Christianity on pagan Ireland - "driving the snakes out" is an allegory for this. Also, yeah, binge drinking is not an appropriate way to "all be Irish on St Paddy's day". Just as Awful as Columbus Day.
@@sideshowbob is it just as awful as Columbus Day though? Some people are really offended by Columbus Day. Some people might not like St Patrick's Day but no one is offended by it.
Every once and a while Bill redeems himself. It's confusing but also glorious. I guess it's a bit meta here, he doesn't really fall into a neat box. He'll make you cringe and he'll make you clap.
That’s because it’s not his thoughts, duhhhhh

What a great piece, this is what America should be about.
No more important words have been spoken, we need to move on from identity politics. Only hearts filled with divisiveness and hate fuel them. Keep saying it, Bill.
I've always felt that people who obsess over their biology, religion, or politics are exceedingly dull and focus on it because it's the most interesting thing about them. That's why I like Jodie Foster. I think being a lesbian is probably the 50th most interesting thing about her.
The Jodie Foster segue was so random lol. Im stealing this for real life conversations fyi. Best comment ive read all month.
You don't know her personally though. She's got kids. So if you did, you're going to be interested to know where they came from, trying to get to know her or you're deliberately avoiding the subject
@@BigBadJerryRogers Huh? What are you talking about? I like her because she's very versatile and multi-faceted and she's had an interesting life. She's won two Oscars for acting, she's directed multiple films and TV shows, she was Valedictorian in high school, she graduated magna cum laude from Yale and majored in African-American studies, She's one of the only child stars who transitioned without any scandals, she had to endure the trauma of the John Hinckley/Ronald Reagan assassination attempt, she was once attacked by a lion as a child and even carried in its mouth, She speaks fluent French, etc. The list goes on and on. She doesn't have to rely on being gay to get validation in the world.
@@BigBadJerryRogers I honestly don't care where her kids came from. I don't even like kids lol. They obviously came from some sperm donor, just like with many other lesbians.
@@Comicsandstuff Honestly, there's a lot of lesbians back in the day who were out and yet they didn't make that the central focus of their life. Lily Tomlin is another one. She's never been in denial about it but she doesn't obsess over it either. This obsession with identity is a modern thing, at least when it comes to gay people. Blacks in particular have always been outrageously obsessed with their identity to the point where hallmark has its own freaking greeting card line called mahogany cuz I guess Maxine is not black enough for them lol If I'm reading a magazine and their interviewing a black celebrity or if I'm watching an award show and a black person wins, I literally make bets on whether they'll bring up their race or not because I know that they will and sure enough I always win

Common sense appeals to everyone. Thanks, Bill
This reminds me of the show "Friends". It's one of the most popular shows in the world, despite the fact that most people in the world don't look or sound like the characters. They like the characters because they can relate to them on a human level. Only in the United States, which has more white people than any other country on Earth, gets offended over six white people on a TV show. By the way, where's the outrage for the lack of Cubans on Golden Girls?
America does not have more "white people" than any country on Earth. It seems like you are the only one who is offended. And obsessed with race. The rest of us watch the show and have fun.
