This theory is strengthened in the ST The First Shadow stageplay where a young Henry Creel only gets his powers when disappearing to another dimension, & commits his most evil crimes under the influence of the Mindflayer....with the murder of his mom & sister under the Mindflayers' influence.
The mind Flayer is the main villain. Dustin has not been wrong about his theories this entire show, so why does everyone doubt him now? All we saw was Henry put his hand in the air and “shape” and already existing entity. It was never stated that Vecna “created” the mind flayer nor did vecna ever admit that. I have a strong feeling the Mind Flayer is behind it all and has been using Vecna to enter the right side up dimension.

By doing this One became part of the hivemind, which made his human body unnecesary (and a reason he could survive the ending of s4), probably not the main antagonist, but the most influential for now :-)

Vecna didn’t create the mind flyer. He just gave him his spider form. But the mind flyer was already there in his cloud form.

I always thought thought of the “Mind-flayer” as being reminiscent of the Lovecraftian Outer Goddess, Shub-Niggurath (aka: She Of A Thousand Young).

I mean, this isn’t even a theory anymore the book and play confirms the mind flayer is the villain
A villain who is an inter dimension, eldritch, lovecraftian type entity who is beyond human comprehension, whose goal is to subjugate and assimilate all living matter in the multiverse is way more interesting to me than a human with powers who wants to kill all humans and whose motivation boils solely down to “we live in a society”. Plus the mindflayer had more Ws against El. possessed billy was able to beat el at her most powerful with pure physical strength alone until she got help. He also managed to take her powers and had her ducking for cover the entire time and this two feats were accomplished by a small piece of the mindflayer, a speck compared to his true form. Vecna on the other hand, fought El 3 times, lost twice. The first time being against the weakest version of el. Vecna also seems to be less physically durable than a demogorgon and far less durable than the flayed creature. A speck of the mindflayer was able to cause more damage in season 3 than all of vecna in season 4, im talking kill count and personal feats, opening the gates doesn’t count as a feat for vecna here. Basically, i dont know how tf the mind flayer is not the main villain here.
I think the setup is sort of a dark forest hypothesis starring Shub-Niggurath. The US government just thought Henry was a telekinetic psychopath, so they made him bang a bunch of chicks and took the babies. Then El caught the attention of SN by sending Henry through
Yeah I think the mind flayer is just making vecna think he’s in control, I actually think the mind flayer had a connection to Henry creel when he was a kid. I think he gave him visions like he did to will which is why he drew out the mind flayer like will did when the mind flayer would give him visions.
Yes! I am definitely down with the idea that the powers come from the upside down and they just needed that moment when 11 vanquished 1 to the upside down to be able to use him as a link to Hawkins. It definitely seems like there was a presence down there before 1’s arrival, and he just tapped into it.

Maybe the Mind flayer somehow saw Henry’s disconnection from humanity and saw it as an opportunity to get what it wants, so therefore it granted Henry the ability’s of Telekineses/Telepathy and Illusion. I think this would an interesting take on how Henry gained his abilities and passing on to the other children.

I had the Vecna is Elevens father theory too. They allude to it with the huge Star Wars reference where he essentially does the Darth Vader "Join me, we can rule together". With that said, I don't think he's going to be El's father. Too convoluted. HOWEVER, it IS possible (feel free to use this, but I want credit).. remember when Sullivan's military goons were tearing up Owens house? Owens wife said "Why are you touching that" of something along those lines, "those are PETER'S papers". And what was Henry called in the lab? PETER Ballard. So if this theory is true, Owens probably tried to adopt Henry before sending him back to the lab after realizing he couldn't control/change him. Borys is definitely not the big bag, I don't play DnD but I've seen people say that character was created in the 90s. People are saying it's Tiamat or something?
Anyway, enjoy my explanation for how Henry can be El's father since it's the ONLY possible explanation. Again, feel free to use it, it's brilliant just like me, but give me credit.

The London stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow further leans into this theory. It very much implies or pretty much confirms from my personal understanding that the Mind Flayer is influencing/manipulating Henry. It makes sense because the Mind Flayer is inspired by Eldritch horror, a god like being beyond all understanding. I always thought it was odd that the Mind Flayer took a bit of a back seat after how prevalent it was in S2. But the play for me has pretty much confirmed that the Mind Flayer is the true big bad behind everything, using Henry/Vecna to his own whim.

What if the mind flayer and Boris are two different things? Dustin just hasn’t come to the conclusion of Boris yet. I don’t get why they have to be the same creature, and instead, Boris “GAVE” the mind flayer to Vecna when he traversed to his world so that ended a big, scary weapon to attack the world with. But, in the end, Boris is his own entity, and he is the “big bad.” Who knows. We’ve had HUGE hiatus at this point

The Mind Flayer is the sentient A.I., Vecna is Agent Smith, and 11 is Neo.
The Mind Flayer will come to a truce with 11, aligning their powers to fight against Vecna (since Vecna has become too powerful during his recent attempt to banish 11.)
This would make for the ultimate showdown...

I really hope so smh. I’d hate for vecna to be the main villain of the series when in reality we have this mysterious love craftion creature that’s powerful and terrifying. Vecna simply being a human with powers who’s a psychopath doesn’t really sit well with me. It’s such a let down and such a basic villain archetype. Takes all the creativity and build up away from the show

I’ve always thought this: if we get Boris the dragon mindflayer is the 2nd most powerful since vecna created the mindflayer but the mindflayer is still stronger then vecna. Also Boris is a red dragon which means he could have “created Vecna”. The mindflayer could control Will making him Try and Kill 11 and maybe as he tries to he snaps out cuz of “Mike” causing a fall out and later on tell him he likes Mike, Mike obviously likes him as a friend Will gets mad cuz he don’t like him and “they used to be Best friends!”

I think your vecna is 11s father theory is right ! Remember when Nancy and robin were at the library looking for info on victor creel and robin called him “grandpa victor creel should be about 70 years old “ If vecna is elevens father victor would be her grandpa ! So it’s foreshadowing

if you remember when Sullivan's military goons were tearing up Dr. Owens house, Owens wife says something like "What do you need with that? Those are PETER'S papers". Henry was called Peter Ballard in the lab (they even page "Peter" and some other name in the intro scene when Brenner is talking to 10. So if this theory is true, that would explain how he managed to have a kid with Terry Ives. Because at some point he was taken out of the lab and adopted by Owens until he realized he couldn't change Henry, because Henry is a psychopath. With that said, if he IS her father he DEFINITELY won't save her like this dude says. El will kill him, and feel bad saying something like "I AM a monster. I killed my own father" and someone will point out that he's only biologically her father, Hopper is her REAL (as in being there as a father not that they share DNA) father.

This is definitely a cool theory and makes sense but if the mindflayer does come back in season 5, they have to be careful that it’s not too similar to seasons 2&3 because it might feel repetitive if it is.

W video as always! Remember how vecna created the mind flayer and how he was showing us and telling 11. I have a still strong feeling that vecna is the main villain and not the mind flayer. The mind flayer helps him.
Wow! Yep! That makes sense…. The upside down could have had its own evil presence before 1 arrived, and 1 became the link to the “above world”… so even though 1 can wrangle the forces. He may not be the ultimate controller.
There's no "link" to hawkins until eleven opens the gate in s1. We're explicitly told this.
@@jarnold I’m kind of confused by your hostility and condescension - but maybe it’s because of a misunderstanding? I wasn’t talking about the initial bridge to the upside down. I was talking about how 1 could be mistaken for the “man in charge” because he’s able to create the links to Hawkins through the troubled kids in season 4. I think it’s possible that he is just one of many players in the underworld and may not be in charge of the hive mind despite appearing to be so. It’s definitely just a theory - could be totally wrong.
I hope that’s more clear - but if not, happy to rephrase.

im sorry, but what? you play the clip of Dustin saying Vecna is TMFs five star general, but leave out the most important bit of context for some reason. Dustin makes the connection because Henry and TMF have the same goal. thats his only evidence. bruh- and he also states that Vecna can open gates and thats why TMF liked him, but we are explictily told by Henry himself that he took the power to open gates from eleven in s3..

its clear you don't know what a plot twist it. Henry being the one behind everything is a plot twist. TMF being the main villain is not. that was already the explanation we had throughout s1-3. nothing changes. TMF having a revealed identity and backstory isn't inherently a plot twist, what makes it a plot twist is that the episodes prior to episode 9 only made it abuntly obvious, but the way it was set up still made it so people weren't expecting it.
you also leave out the context of Will saying "its strange now, knowing who it was this whole time." ...
This theory disregards a lot of things. the big one is that the borys theory doesn't work. no other dnd inspired character has looked anything like the character, only paralleling the character which is why the gang gave them the name they did. if the painting means *anything* its just a painting of borys. the 4 kids aren't literally wearing armor and going up against the supposed main villain, the main character of the show would be the one going up against him anyway. but I think the funniest thing to just completely gloss over is that we know for a fact Vecna is NOT being controlled????? A MAJOR thing about his character is that no one can control him. thats the point..

Yeah I tend to agree with you in that any theory other than Vecna being the big bad just doesn't make since from a storytelling/directorial standpoint. It makes no sense to have a big reveal in the last season only to come back and say, "gotcha" it's actually this other person we haven't built up at all. I just think it would be a bad decision to spend the last 8 episodes trying to completely build up another big bad instead of having this last season just focus on defeating the already well established big bad. I suppose stranger things have happened (see what I did right there?). lol
But seriously, I just think people are bored and itching for the final season so they are just throwing crap out there to have fun until the new season arrives. I hope everyone is wrong anyways. I think it would be a very VERY bad decision to introduce another villain. Henry was built and developed so well last season so introducing another and making it seem like henry isn't in control just disrespects the character and the audience's time. His whole thing was being the apex predator and not being controlled and mundane like the average human existence. So for him to just end up being a tool himself is a disservice to the character in my opinion. But what do I know?

I actually always assumed it was simply didnt like Henry's character and preferred the mind flayer being mysterious, as if that was ever going to last the entire series. I've seen many people say the mind flayer in S3 is better written if he's not Henry which is just... Not true imo. I've also been called a "vecna fanboy who is shoving him into the story" for just explaining ep 9
@@jarnold what happened in the trailer? And nah I don't think that. I'm not a fanboy of anything or anyone. I just watch a lot of movies and understand what elements go into creating a compelling narrative. And as a creator of a show as well written as stranger things I think they are wise enough to understand how problematic it would be to undercut a villain you spent so much time building up. That's like destroying a house you took 10 years to build.
Only way that might be OK is if they have another season which is not the case. So it's just unwise to throw a new villain in, in the last act of your show or movie. Don't get me wrong many movies and shows do it and it NEVER goes over well because the audience doesn't care about the villain or at least isn't invested. For example the Disney and hero movies are bad about that, throwing a new villain in at the last 30 minutes of a movie and having a CGI fight that nobody cares about. Black Adam comes to mind recently as an example.
