Duffer brothers : so this is one of our favorite movies
elias I’m dying😂
😂😂😂😂
To be real a good majority of the 80's films were amazing.
@@samushunter0048 yeah that's true but it sounded like a running gag for me 😅😉

Alternative title: Movies to watch to prepare for Stranger Things 4
Right
Or, things you should've watched prior to watching the first 3 seasons.
or the long waited russo x duffer collab
You should have watched them without Stranger Things. They are iconic movies and if you haven't already watched them without the Duffer Brothers, man you are dull or you have no taste in movies!
@@deathbeforedecaf7755 There are a lot of iconic movies out there, cut them some slack.
"David was upset because he didn't get to punch anybody on season 2" lmao I love David so much
😂
I just want to punch myself!! Haha hey!?
Who doesn’t?
well he got to punch ppl in season 3 alright
Well, he cut someone’s arm and head off with a Conan the barbarian sword in season 4, that has to be satisfying
Cant help but smile every time one of the brothers say “our kids”
They not a kids anymore T_T
I was actually thinking the exact same thing!
matbe they will do it after s5

Duffers: Now this is our favourite

ur dad tom yeah, I know that’s why I said “nice copied comment”
You: *steals joke format*
10k Subs with No videos How do you know. They posted it on the same hour
It's amusing that of these references, Finn Wolfhard ended up being in both the IT remake AND the new Ghostbusters sequel
Wut sequel
@@samithaci74 Ghostbusters
When I was Watching that IT remake I've laught when they were jumping off that cliff. Especialy Finn's character who jumps willingly this time.
I mean it literaly looked like the one in Stranger Things.
Seemed a lot higher in Hawkins.

Wired: Name your favorite movie
Duffers: Yes
I wish they would stop holding the dialog back because they don't want to spoil the show. We all binged it, just say it!
dusty pants I think they filmed this before s3 came out though, so they might not have been able to say much
dusty pants actually I just recently finished season three and some of my friends haven’t finished yet, some people don’t wanna binge it cuz they wanna savor it
_GM_ That’s OK but people who didn’t see s3 yet surely are not watching videos uploaded 3 weeks after premiere.
If u finish other people won’t u spoiled brat
I just spent all day today watching the whole season. Lol!
Who else really wants another beyond stranger things????
Yeah. Why didn't they do that for season 3?
Meeee omggg

I know right 🤗🤩
PLEASEE
Surprised they didn't mention hopper grabbing his hat in the last second in season 2 while discussing indiana jones. Imo one of the most iconic indiana jones scenes.
The Forcecaster truuue but I feel like they skipped a ton of references, probably more obvious ones, because watching the show I saw SO MANY references and almost none of these are discussed in this video. Instead I learnt so much and realize the number of movies I have yet to watch!
The Forcecaster in the most beginning they said they would cover MOST references..
I think that was too obvious, thats why they didnt mention it
Also, in another video they mention Temple of Doom as inspiration for the Jonathan/Nancy bedrooms sequence, directly refferencing Indy and Willie...
Which episode was this one in?
The Duffer Brothers: We like the 80's
Us: We like your references
The duffer brothers don’t get as much clout as they deserve
Yeah.
Ikr stranger things wouldn’t exist without them!
TankGaming69 not as of yet!
if only locals are focusing more on actual talented people such as the duffer bros and less on the ones that are full of toxic drama smh
TankGaming69 tf if they didn’t lol thats all anybody talks about
stranger things is literally everywhere u go

Replace "John Hughes" with "the Breakfast Club".
Thank you
What about Lucas´s Karate Kid inspired shirt? He got it because Max was in love with The guy who played Daniel in the movie.
Remember they said they only would say half of the references not all of them
@@aidenrendon3790 Oh. Yeah
that actually makes sense-
Random fact of the day: Snoop Doggs real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.
Wow i actually never knew that
Thank you
I didn't know that
That's actually surprising
knew that purely because his kid went to UCLA lmao
Will we see Hopper as Fat Winter Soldier after Russian Conditioning in Season 4? I sure hope so.
Lol apparently he plays a russian named Alexei in Black Widow. Maybe when he gets out of the upside down through the russian portal, he goes undercover, using the name of the whistle blower as an alias to honor his contributions to saving Hawkins.
Leonor Távora it’s Alexei
oh so this is the russo’s x duffer’s collab that they were talking about
"We going to take your arm off"
"I think I just need hel-"
"Give you cool robot arm"
As much as I‘d love to see that just for comedic value; I think Hopper should go back to at least half mentally stable. And if he does remain kinda deranged, it should be shown in a more believable way. They could use his imprisonment as an explanation fir that. Because I think in season three he‘s a bit of a joke which I don‘t particularly like about Hopper.
"Stand by me was avery traumatic movie to watch as kids so we had our kid actors watch it too"
I love how they say "This traumatized us as children but we love it so we used it" 😂😂
What I love about Stranger Things is that they aren’t COPYING 80s movies. It’s almost as if these little nods are solely there for the experience. Our subconscious recognizes them and thus puts us even further into the mindset that we are viewing the 80s.
No, they're absolutely copying the 80s movies, they can call it inspiration if they like, but it is what it is. Only that the generations that watch stranger things don't know/don't care about it
@@floracrestanello look up the word homage
@@floracrestanello Tbh literally nothing is original. movies have been copying other movies since the birth of cinema, adapting stage plays, novels, historical events, it's never been fully original.
@@floracrestanello You are un-helpfully stuck in generation bias. All the 80s movies were directly inspired/copied by older movies too. Everything evolves. Good stuff sticks around.
@@josh__mclendon I'm not sure what inspired Steven Spielberg to compose some of the scenes in ET or Close Encounters, that were then copied in this series. Steven Spielberg had the original captivating visions for these movies.
The amount of effort put into the small details is incredible. Every little thing in the series has a reason to be there. Bravo
Eleven and Matilda basically have the same powers
I totally forgot Matilda
exactly! The book came out at 1989 so it can't be referenced which kinda sucks
they’re long lost cousins
I bet Matilda is more powerful
@@MRtacoslicous powerful enough to close a gate?
The way they kept saying "Friends don't lie" in the show reminded me of "Goonies never say die". Don't know if that's a reference or not.
I feel like the Duffer’s and the Russo’s are secretly best friends because everything has a sad ending
They're actually good friends
I--
D&D probably don't get invited to their double hangouts anymore, I know the Russo's were huge fans of the show lol
i mean they did get david harbour to play in the upcoming black widow movie. maybe that’s why they took hopper to a russian facility. i’m excited for this duffer x russo collab
It's safe to say that the Duffer's are legit movie buffs and great writers/show runners
6:08 they forgot to mention Eleven dressed as a ghost just like E.T. in that shot!
They said that it inspired what costumes they wore
Coral LB they just said it seconds before!? Lol
The thing I love about Stranger Things is that you can just keep finding new hidden references and symbolism with every new viewing.
A lot of references, another reason to love Stranger Things
You are everywhere on RUclips right now
Omg I’ve seen you everywhere legit
Ive seen you everywhere too haha
I love how they call the kids, “our” kids 😝 like they see themselves as parents!
they wrote them didint they?
They mean the characters they created
Tadhg K no they called the kids, “our kids” which “their” kids play the kids they created.
SugarW1thC0ffee shut up
Alejandro Mavarez no you shut up
we need to thank these two legends for creating the best show evah
Drew Barrymore or Molly Ringwald should play Robins mom next season haha
They should play her “ moms”
Funny that molly was referenced for Robin in season 4.
Why is everybody who's being interviewed about Stranger Things saying: "I don't want to spoil anything" or "I can't talk about that because it's a spoiler". Like we haven't all seen Stranger Things 3 two times already...😂
these interviews were most likely pre filmed before season 3 was even out.. and the people being interviewed most likely didn’t know when the interview would be released.. so they decided to no say anything just in case the interview came out before the new season
beaustars ahh okay I didn’t know that ☺️
Hahha yeaah like, i bet there were people who watched the entire third season 4 times AND THAT WAS IN JULY 4th lol
8 times but sure
Love all the movies they referenced and didn't notice many of these in-show references. Very clever implementations.
Besides Terminator ://///
The Duffers need to do more interviews! Would love more behind the scenes re writing and how they have changed to more CGI this season etc.
Here's a handy list, I think I caught everything:
- Alien
- Aliens
- Altered States
- Carrie
- Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- Cujo
- E.T.
- Firestarter
- Frankenstein (1931)
- Ghostbusters

- Star Wars V: Empire Striker Back

- John Carpenter's The Thing
- Witness
No mention of these movies? Weird.

Does this list include season 3? Because you CANNOT tell me Nancy being chased in the hospital WASN’T a nod to Halloween II
Man, that list would make for a great movie marathon weekend if you could even find a copy of all of them these days.
the lost boys is so much in stranger things season 2 what
I think one of the movies they forgot in the list is Christine. I saw it for the first time today and I think it's great
Outside of the MCU, Stranger Things has some of the best easter eggs . The Duffer Brothers are creative geniuses.
You are too easily amused. Geniuses create something new. Hacks recycle what came before and pretend it's art.
as much as I love the MCU, the ST references and easter eggs are way more subtile and just pretty much better.
What about Pixar? Easter eggs in every movie
@@erin2778 Their pretty goood as well.
@@TheSingularitarian I wonder if you could name something truly original. All the things they recycled"were recycled by someone else.
I love this show so much, but since I was not born and raised in America I am so confused by so many things and there are so many references I just do not understand and this actually helps me because now I can look back at it and get it.

Duffer Bros: So this movie was one of our favourites growing up
Woah I didnt realize almost all of stranger things is a movie reference 😂
Said someone who didn't grow up in the 80s....
@@yourmajesty3569 I'm of the age that those movies were my teen movies and watching Stranger Things I noticed all of them, it was distracting even. It seemed like the were ripping off other creators, unoriginal.
We have this saying in Germany. Better to steal well than to invent poorly.
Growing up in the 80’s was a blast & Stranger Things perfectly encapsulates it!
Me and my grandma are watching the first season of stranger things
Yeah that's right boys I got my grandma into this show
My grandson got me into this show also. It has added another layer of “cool” to our already amazing relationship 💕
so basically strangers things is that meme of "can i copy your homework?"
Yeah pretty much every director does this. No need to be salty about it.
And when you are making a movie about a specific genre, why wouldn't you????
There’s a formula to making great content. They themselves have created their own unique iconic scenes while paying homage to all their inspiration which is so cool to see. Artists inspire other artists since the dawn of time. Take The Matrix, it was inspired by multiple sources and if you take those sources away there wouldn’t be The Matrix. There’s even Easter eggs in that movie too and it’s one of the best Sci Fi movies ever created.

These guys are genuine geniuses there has not been one bad bit thx to the duffer bros and everyone else behind the scenes and on it!
I'm surprised they didn't say that they also referenced The NeverEnding Story.
That's like complaining that they didn't reference everything they've ever seen or read. Which is what every director does.

No Poltergeist on this list? That's surprising. I felt like all of Season 1 with Will stuck in another dimension and Joyce wanting to get to him was a huge nod to Poltergeist
I think even Joyce let will watch it, and she bought movie tickets to it. For get what season and episode
@@GabsterZ21 first season first episode 26mn
When did it come out
Honestly, i'm surprised they didn't mention the truck flip as an ET reference. It's by far the best reference to you know which scene, mainly because they don't copy it. They imitate it, fake us out, and do their own thing with the premise. ET saves his group of kids by floating them out of danger. Eleven saves hers by means of truck yeet.
Amazing how almost every scene of Stranger Things is shot back to back in homage to all these classic and unforgettable films, which ironically Stranger Things has turned to be quite iconic for what it is and I’m truly grateful for this show since I’ve always been in love with and nostalgic for a decade I’ve never lived through and that Is the 80’s! Thank you Duffer brothers! ♥️
Witness the double standard when it comes to calling out blunt plagiarism vs praising "homages" and "nods", a mind-blowing 30 minutes of them.
Anton but It’s never been identified as plagiarism since it was always the point of them reenacting those iconic movie scenes to pay homage. lol reenacting scenes in the way they are doing it isn’t plagiarism anyways
other writers: so what movie references do you guys want to do
Duffer brothers: YES

@@missioncodez haha 🤣
Is that even debatable? I think it is pretty obvious that he is the "American" referred to at the end of season 3, who else could it be?
Everyone, but he's not in the cell. When the person in the is revealed to Bob you'll all be like holy $#!+. Then Hopper will come back in another way.
@@daveborn1971 That would not make any sense, we clearly saw Bob die on screen, the flesh was ripped off his body. Hopper's death on the other hand was left more ambiguous, we did not clearly see him die like we did Bob.
I love just how Stranger Things is the Duffer brothers way to live out & reference all their childhood dreams! That’s why it’s beaming with passion (despite the hardcore homage).
Is anyone else randomly humming the Never Ending Story song since they watched season 3?
That was my favorite story groing up
The theme song for me

I can't believe they didn't mention Poltergeist. The scene with Joyce talking to Will through the lights is exactly the same as the one with the parents talking to Carol Anne through the tv. Plus the whole concept of the kid being in the same space as the mother yet not the same dimension, and being stalked by a terrifying beast while he's there. C'mon, that's so much more relevant than the tiny reference to Witness!
I've just watched all of the Stranger Things seasons, I love that series.
The Duffers did a very good job of both setting the scene, making the visuals and sound, but also make a great character dynamic, between the leading roles. It is one of my favorite series, and I think it is in the same league as Game of Thrones (1-7) and The Office, as well.
