of course the guy with "wank" in his name was a bust
Underrated comment
😂😂😂
His name isn't pronounced like that, though. Rhymes with twinky. As a Panthers fan, we always called him "Stinky Weinki."
👏🏻
Nailed it
I appreciate you actually doing NFL history, rather than just cutting off in the last decade like so many youtubers do.
Check JagaurGator9 then, he covers everything in the NFL and even did AFL if he had enough material for an episode
@@Drave_Jr. Or besstmode
I know there’s so many interesting looking videos but all the history only goes back to 2000
@@Drave_Jr. and that’s not even the only sport he does (as a whole; that channel is NFL-exclusive)
Weinke is the reason I became a panthers fan 22 years ago. His final season with the noles was amazing
I remember how pissed I was when my Eagles drafted a twenty-six-year-old firefighter
Who?
@@keijonsmith8546Danny Watkins
As someone who attended FSU 2000-2004, this was a no-brainer for me. It was obviously Weinke.
The NCAA changed some of its eligibility rules because of him because he actually played pro baseball BEFORE playing college football, and so dominated as a college QB because he was essentially already a professional athlete.
Wanky wasn't that dominant? Dude didn't deserve that heisman and those FSU teams were led by the defense and good WR.
That wank joke was on point
John Wayne was drafted at 63 by the Falcons in 1971
Perna… that joke was… a thing that happened
Only 28? Thought there might have been some random late rounder who would have been older.
RB Moses Burns by Washington in the 70s, by not sure how old he was exactly.
That’s like if in the fourth round of the 2021 nfl draft, the Lions took OBJ instead of Amon Ra St Brown
Give Weinke credit for being around 7 years I guess
I'm a Panthers fan. Man, he was god-awful. 😑
@@nasis18man being a 4th round starting rookie quarterback must be tough though.
@Crack Jack His rookie year, they had a lot of close games. But he was still horrible. lol
@@crackjack144 TBF, the 2001 Panthers were kindy sucky overall as well, lol.
@@nasis18 a 4th round rookie should not be starting as well. Though I’m afraid of what their other choices were if they were forced to use a rookie. The man probably needed way more time to develop and to have a veteran Qb take over so he could be mentored properly. Trial by fire so early on has killed more then a few potential decent QBs
Crazy that Weinke actually won the Heisman, too. At least Carolina holds a record for something 😂
The falcons tried to draft John Wayne once. Yes, the actor.
I remember reading about that. John Wayne was in his 60s, I think. I believe they tried that in 70 or 71. lol
How did that not end up in that Jon Bois video?
Kurt Warner came into the NFL as an old man too
I do wonder who the oldest NFL rookie ever is, drafted or not. Probably still Weinke lol
Probably would have been informative to give some context, both players were football and baseball prospects and were in MILB for 6-7 years before turning to football
Browns being the Browns
I was 8 when Weeden was drafted and it blew my mind just as much then as it still does now
25 is middle-aged? Well im fucked
Body starts drying at 27 when more cells die than are created
damn chris was drafted already having a receded hairline
damn stetson, did you forget to take your pills again 💀
Chris Weinke was a good baseball player too. This is why He was so Old at the time. He was Joe Mauer, before Joe Mauer (MN Twins Catcher). Joe was also a good QB.
I saw Chris Weinke play at FSU and then for the Toronto Blue Jay's Class A Florida state league. Watching him try and hit future bug league pitchers made it clear why he left for the NFL draft after a few years.
First player i thought of was Weinke. I remember being a young VaTech fan watching vick and the team in the BCS championship. One of the biggest takeaways i had was how on earth could a guy that old be allowed to play college ball lol
That’s such a browns move to draft a 28 yo qb 😂
Weinke is pronounced like "Winky." As in "Stinky Weinke".
Sorry to bust everyone's bubble, but as a Panther fan, it's unfortunately pronounced Winky.
Captain Weinke…just wasn’t an NFL caliber QB. Hell of a college QB tho.
Like Twinkie
I remember old Stinky Weinke.
Wait wait wait…
Stetson got drafted 😂
Knew it was Stinky Weinke and looking back, I'm glad he was made starter. His poor play put the team in a position to draft Julius Peppers, find a diamond in the rough in Jake Delhomme and brought in John Fox. 2 seasons later? Super Bowl appearance.
Imagine getting excited to see what amazing young prospect your favorite team will draft in the 1st round and hopefully have for the next 10 years, just for them to draft someone who’s almost 30.
Herb Hannah was drafted by the Giants at 29 years old.
I think 1970s Washinton drafted an fairly old CFL RB named Moses Burns. Cant remember his age.
I think you're thinking of Moses Denson? He was 27 years 211 days when he was drafted in 1972
Worth noting-he didn't play in a game until he was 30 and played in 2 seasons before he retired
@@theadmjg yeah, i dont know where i got Burns.
Sad thing is, Weinke's 1-15 season was the Panther's worst record, but e was NOT the worse QB to start at Carolina. THAT would be the anemic Jimmy Clausen.
Weinke threw more picks than TDs, but he ALSO put up nearly 3000 passing yards that season. Clausen put up HALF those passing yards and had a MUCH worse TD-INT Ratio.
I knew it was Weinke. Actually forgot about Weeden, but knew he was up there too.
Was surprised neither of them did better, but they also played on crappy teams...
The oldest player ever drafted in any round in NFL history was almost 37 year old George Plimpton. He had participated in the Lions' 1963 training camp which he described in the classic sports participation book Paper Lion. He had ingratiated himself among the players, staff and administration of the Lions to the extent that they asked him to man their phone at the 1965 draft in New York. The very end of the book describes how at the end of the arduous 29 hour process they called him and told him that their final (20th round) pick was George Plimpton! But when their time actually came they drafted someone else (the Lions head coach's son George Wilson Jr actually)
That’s like Aaron Rodgers being in the same draft class as Trevor Lawrence. That’s like Tom Brady being in the same draft class as Davante Parker and Ty Montgomery
I’m surprised Brandon Weeden is only the second oldest.
I called it 😂 i remember his old ass getting drafted to the panthers
Meanwhile Jaren Hall been soaking for at BYU so long, he came out still a 25 yr old baby; so nobody noticed. SKOL!💜💛
There is a reason for this. I’m MY NFL we only let Exiting young player succeed!
Thanks to that 1-14 record we got Peppers the following year.
The only good thing that Stinky Weinke gave Carolina.
@@nasis18 deshaun foster?
While Weeden is the oldest first rounder, Gary Glick, a safety from CSU is the oldest first overall pick at 26
Iirc, he had military service that pushed him up, but its still insane to think that hes both the oldest First pick, and only DB ever drafted #1, and likely oldest DB drafted ever too
I remember ESPN analysts drooling over Weeden at college. I saw his was 28 and thought, "no wonder he's great in college! he's playing against 19 yr olds"
Vince Papale was 30 when he tried out for the Eagles and won a spot, but there was no draft
Brandon "Grandpaw" Perna. Drafted 2054.
Should’ve been named Chris Edging if he wanted to last longer in the NFL
Weinke’s NFL pension fully-vested when he took his pre-draft Wonderlic
Why you say his name "wanky" lol
Isn't it "Winky"?
Went to grade school with him at Saint Andrew's in Saint Paul Mn. His dad Ron coached me in baseball for a couple years.
I love how ESPN's draft guru Mel Kiper RAVED about Weinke!
He said that if you didn't vote him for Heisman you should lose your vote.
He was against Drew Brees and Josh Huepel (who beat Wrinke in the national title game).
I’m surprised it wasn’t an Australian punter who did their Master’s in the states and played for two years for their university at like 31.
Brandon Weeden was my guess. Him and Hoyer as starters that year were sooooo ass, wanna say it was 2012
A lot is made about the situation a QB falls into and how it affects there success -- I think Wienke is the greatest example of this. Dude was an absolute beast. Wasted talent.
He also won that thing called the Heisman lol
Honestly the way QBs be lasting now 25 isn’t that old but we shall see
Man...thats one old Wienke...
Brandon your video info nuggets are awesome . If I had to choose between you and Grossi I'd choose you every time!
The Cowboys tried to draft John Wayne but the NFL said no
Somehow even when my Browns do something truly extremely embarrassing, other teams occasionally find ways to one up their stupidity
I, for one, appreciate that you ignored his Heisman win
Minnesota legend Chris Weinke
my guess was weeden but as that was never noted I didn't think it was right either, glad to know I got 2nd lol
the oldest NFL rookie that still holds the record today is my great uncle, Otis Douglas. He was 35. Do your research
So your telling me Stetson Bennett is 1 year younger then Lamar Jackson a guy out of the 2018 draft that’s crazy
In the nhl all the players that get drafted are like 17/18 so these guys would be over 10 years older than them
No what was weird was Hendon Hooker being in College at 25 and not a PHD candidate.
Fram Tarkenton. The Vikings are bringing him back from the dead to save their season.
I thought a team once jokingly drafted John Wayne? Good for Weinke though
If I remember correctly Weinke set the rookie QB record for rushing TDs at the time.
Wanky was the same age as Drew Bledsoe, who was drafted in '93.
I was screaming weinke at my phone before you said it haha
I was 💯% correct! I knew it was Chris Weinke and I remember he was drafted by the Carolina Panthers out of Florida St. too
_PROPS TO MYSELF FOR REMEMBERING THIS! HAHA_
I remembered but I was in my freshman year at FSU when he was in his “senior” year. Loves watching him dominate on gridiron i’m college! He was so much older bc he already played pro baseball before college football.
I remembered too, but im an FSU fan so im kinda obligated to know lol
it was definitely pronounced Winky, which is even better
Herb Hannah was 29 years 5 months when he was drafted
weinke actually coached hendon so that’s kinda crazy lol
I feel like one of the joke draft picks they used to do was probably the oldest, I mean batman’s pretty fucking old.
Weinke is a legend
"Babe, you only lasted 7 years that's so embarrassing"
So there's a chance I can be the oldest player ever drafted is all I heard.
Only the browns would draft a 28 year old in the first round
weinke played baseball before that though
Weinke wore out his arm before he got to Carolina. I swear I saw him at preseason game throw a pass, and it got to the receiver the third week of the season. He legit throws like a smart girl who knows the form but has no strength at all. He was ill suited for the physical rigors of the NFL.
I can’t wait to watch Hooker and Bennett play. I’m a Vols fan so I’ve watched a lot of Hooker and even some of Bennett and they’ve both got good NFL minds
God he looked even older than he was with his hair deciding to start disappearing
Counts his draft age in years and days then says they count it in months 💀💀
Brandon weeden first rounder at age 28!
I really thought it was weeden. I have his jersey 😂
When did you draft that closing PUNCHLINE?
Brandon weeden for the browns is my guess.
Winky Dinky Don’t
The Falcons once drafted Marion Morrison (aka John Wayne) as a fluke when he was 62. I'm not sure it counts, but wouldn't he be the oldest?
Wow thanks Perna 😮
"Wank" doesn't really sound anything like "Wink" but hey, I'll give ya credit for at least trying... right?
The reason why Weeden was because he was drafted into the MLB out of high school. After that he redshirted his Freshman year and stayed for 5 years.
You heard it here first: Stetson Bennett will be a TOP 10 QB within the next 4 years. GUARANTEED....
No he won’t even start in the next 4 years 😂😂😂 especially over Matt Stafford
He’s gotta get out of rehab first.
Honestly id rather have a qb that's a little older for the maturity factor
I knew that already. I guess I'm old.
Brandon weeden was super old
We know once he was sacked by the American flag we were doomed and doomed we were until 2018 give Baker credit for winning a playoff game and ultimately could of been our hero had he beat Kansas city in the divisional
That's the most Browns thing ever. You know your team is bad when the flag takes him down. 😂
crazy
Joe Burrow was 24 when he was drafted lol
