Ralf Rangnick has been appointed Manchester United interim manager until the end of the season.
The 63-year-old's contract will see him oversee the first team until June and then remain at the club for at least a further two years in a consultancy role.
United reached an agreement with Lokomotiv Moscow last week for the release of Rangnick, who was manager of sports and development at the Russian club.

I had the pleasure to be working with him a few training sessions when I was in the Academy of Hoffenheim and he was the Manager at the first team.
A few general takeaways for me were:
1) He is a very demanding coach with his own philosophy & structures which he is able to make the players understand within a short period of time - the players need to function within his systems, otherwise he won't hesitate to give the chance/invest in alternative players, who didn't max out on their market value yet (will be interesting to see changes in the starting line up of ManU)
2) Tactically he adopts really quickly to the league and quality of the players. He knows how to win games while exciting the fans with his offensive style of playing. The GK is seen as the "first attacker" translating into the teams scoring a lot more goals than before. I know that Rangnick rather wins 6:4 than 2:0 because he wants to create a strong bound with the fans.
3) His frequency of investing in "unknown" players who he was able to develop into stars is something unmatched in the football world to this day. Therefore, I expect ManU to develop into a club with more international players (youth & senior teams) in order to make a financial return when selling players.
4) Rangnick was never appointed to be e.g. Bayern Munich's Manager since he needed to have more power than just being the "coach" in order to make his philosophy really flourish - demanding control over transfers, structures within the club, etc. was something that only a few club's in Germany wanted to commit to. As a result, he tended to take over "development projects" such as Hoffenheim and Leipzig or, since only a few of German Clubs gave him this much power.
Due to coaches in the UK having a lot more power compared to Germany, I think Rangnick is a perfect match for the Premier League & ManU!
PS: He is the best coach, manager and player agent Germany has to offer. Congratulations, ManU & Fans!
Indeed❤🔥

the single most important thing we'll see from rangnick is he'll expose who truly wears the badge for the club or for themselves, and who is willing to work for the right to wear it. the lessons he will teach will be valuable for any player, regardless of the future coach. i'm mostly hoping this improves our players not only in the modern high-pressing playstyle reflected by our targeted rivals, but experience in dealing with it/defending against it, which is arguably just as valuable if not moreso for the position our club is in.
i don't expect crazy results, i don't expect an immediate resurgence. but i do expect a large-scale reform come 6 months time, and hopefully the club and staff are well equipped enough to handle that, and convert it into success at the highest level, where the club belongs.
smart move by united, smart move by rangnick. hopefully football as a whole gets a fat W from this appointment.

I hope he becomes our DF and restructure our great club with exciting football identity.
Not commercial identity.
He's actually going to be a pseudo DoF of some sorts, they labelled it as "consultancy role", for a further 2 years
Football indentiy increases commercial identity. Currently United is losing fans and money because of the way they play.
Our recruitment has improved massively since Murtough became football director

I'm getting goosebumps for the first time for a Manager 😩
The beginning of the revival❤
Finally a German coach thank god. Only time will tell. It’s not going to happen in 6 months but for the future. The fans needs to be patient.
The g in God should be written in capital letters 😊, if you believe in God that is.
Fans must lower their expectations else the new manager will easily be a disappointment as well. There are too much problems to address with the team including lack of culture, focus and discipline
lol I think he will only make it worse.
Manchester United should have signed Peter Hyballa, Cristoph Daum or Peter Neururer.
Rangnick is decent but they could have signed an even BETTER German manager, these guys are PROPER!!
@@LegendNinja41 Peter Hyballa 😂 He was the worst Coach I have ever seen as manager of my hometown club (Sk Sturm Graz)
Hearing a lot of “he’s won 0 trophies” nonsense from bitter rival fanbases.
He wouldn’t - because he usually works behind the scenes, in a DoF/consultancy type role. Overseeing this role, he has taken not one but two clubs from the lower levels of German football, to Champions League level football, in a matter of seasons. THAT is what matters.
He was won a couple of trophies tbh. I think he may have won leagues in the 2nd and 3rd tier to get promoted
I'm an MU fan and I am not impressed by his achievements. Compared to the club' achievements, it's really not impressive. And on the other hand, I believe the fans of the rivals are actually cheerleading this. I really do hope I'm wrong..
@@daddyview7392 Ralf isnt the guy to win you a trophy, he is the person that will setup a club so when the next coach comes in he has a better chance to win trophies in the near future.
@@imo098765 yes, I hope the setup will be solid..
Yep but he never led some cream of the crop team like MU, so no matter how good of an expert he is, this is all new for him. Its also very strange that he is doing this now at this age
I will never give up on Manchester , united will rise again.
Welcome Ralf Rangnick 🔴 United made a good decision for a change
Training non stop starts now...new formation new tactics week in week out
Let the winning journey begin
Welcome Ralf…….Let’s hit Glory Road ❤️ @manchesterunited
This appointment, which I totally agree with, can only be successful if the likes of the board, Woodward and the Glaziers listen to and support Ralf's "football" decisions. Forget about the ongoing plan to make United a successful franchise. Remember that this club is all about what happens on the pitch.
Welcome Ralf, ❤️
The most delightful thing for me about Rangnick taking the reins is the simple fact that some of the players unworthy of wearing the red shirt will be put exactly where they belong.
So true
Hooowah!! That's great!
Welcome Rangnik all the best
I don't know why, but I got a feeling Ralf would elevate players like Brandon Williams..used to watched the kid in academy and he's really good in flying forward ala kimmich & Carvajal, but when he break into first team he lost the flair and stop went offensive..some sort of mental block impose on him by senior players.
Finally we will have game plan in action and not in interviews and press conference

Let's hope at 63 he can add to his German fa Cup trophy!
That interview where Sir Alex Ferguson talked about Jurgen Klopp has resulted into hiring a German coach!!!!
Good luck United
If Rangnick is so good then it is an insult to employ him only as interim manager.
Rather than viewing Ralf causing a problem for the eventual manager, he is a fantastic resource for any manager to have at their side.
Man Utd haven't developed players for such a long time, they have just been throwing money (and lots of it) as people they expect to come in and win things. It will be a refreshing change for the club
Welcome to Old Trafford Ralf Ragnick ♥️
We are delighted as a United fan

@0:34 No it's not from Manchester United, it's actually from Ralf, i mean Alf Rangnick, his alter ego, Ralf and Alf and can fluidly switch between them, Manchester United are in for a surprise.
I wish Rangnick all the best. I never heard of him before but recent video excerpts of him that I watched on RUclips, he comes across one of the “leading “German car design engineers .
🤣🤣 I thought that was Ralf standing at the back, turns out it was Stephen Warnock
superb manager...for huge club...hope gets off to a flyer !!!!
I do hope he will not end up being treated like how LVG was treated. And I do hope he stays long term.
I hope this brings an end to the lack of culture, discipline and focus in the club. I hope this marks an end to the stay of players like Martial, Matic and Pogba.
Maguire, Pogba, and Martial need to be kicked off the team immediately, regardless of the cost. Greenwood needs to step up, Fred needs to step up, and Ronaldo will need to adapt to pressing OR making runs to get open following a successful press.
Watch out for those "fans" who will be calling the manager out when he loses a few matches
Matic is not that bad regarding discipline, he just aged too quickly
@@andrewomahony9260
Players like Greenwood and Rashford lack discipline and it started since the face off btw Pogba and JM. I think JM was right to call Pogba a poison to the team. He is the genesis of the lack of discipline we see in the team today.
@@cjx22
There are too much expectations from the fans and it isn't good for the manager and the players as well. All of those managers sacked were put under the bus by the players because of backing and the interfaces in on pitch matters by the management
I believe this new manager needs time, the fan base needs to lower its expectations
Big Sam will be devasted he had a load of DVD's for Long Ball play and signings to come in January as well lol
dont get too excited yet...we still have same players who threw jose n ole under the bus...and laughed all the way to the bank
yes yes they could be plotting to sell some cheeseburgers outside old trafford with ralf who knows. this is not like buying a pressure cooker with warranties and guarantees. Its an effort so just be happy about it + the performance yesterday without a decent manager.
Finally made a football decision 🙌👏🙏
The fact that they said they should withdraw from Poch shows the lack of football knowledge. Poch or Ten Hag would be perfect permanent managers in the summer as both of them play similar high pressing football to Rangnick, which is why the appointment of Ralf as interim manager and then 2+ years consultancy is a brilliant move for once by the United board. Ralf will decide who the next manager will be and work with him it will be a seamless transition as at the end of the season, the players will be used to a high press system perfectly in time for Poch or Ten Hag.
I hope his tenure at the club take us back to glory.

Another factor to consider about Rangnick, on top of everything else - his pull on the worlds best players. Having technically arrived at the club this morning, United are already favourites to land Haaland.
Halaand is a Leeds fan. He'll never go to United. Manchester City who his dad also played for is most likely. And at a bargain price this summer.
@@nicbongo doesn't matter these days
Halaand is close mates with Sancho, said he would love to meet Ronaldo as he is the reason Haland plays footy and rangixks set up with suit Haaland
@@nicbongo But 500k/week
There is nothing cheap about haaland price. Forget the 75m release clause, he will be asking for mammoth wages and not to forget the leech agent Mino Raiola who demands huge transfer fees for his commissions as well. So it could easily go over 120m or 150m
This is massive for us!!! C’mon united!!!!!
Honestly if he makes utd good I don’t mind keeping him as an actual manager not interim anymore
Do you think consultancy can come alongside the potential permanent management position? Considering Ralph likes fingers in pies, I don’t know how the 2 can work at the same time from the same person.
As a Bundesliga fan, the thing about him and this video points out perfectly is that he's, in my opinion, excellent in terms of coaching/managing, but he is world class without a doubt in building a football club from ground up. Just look at RB Football group. That's all him. His reach is global now since he developed a highly conpetitive RB club in every major continent with somewhat restricted resources in terms of funding. Utd doesn't have a funding issue bc of the revenue they rack in and bc EPL is the richest league in the world so Utd fans will have some fun watching this fall into place.
@@massmediah05 thanks for the insight
Great 👏👏👏👏
Wish he was director of football at Everton. Dont expect titles but he will fix many of Uniteds problems
Excellent points
Now, United will be back to what they were once. Just wait for the next season
I would probably suggest waiting a bit longer. They need to make the right call for the next manager and have time to remove the deadwood and bring in new blood.
United fans have been saying this for the last 8 years
@Vaishnav M N yh, because he doesn't already have 5
Europa league football, all aboard
@@Swan94y Ronaldo will not play in Europa League, mate. I think he made that quite clear in the Villareal game
He has 26 games to manage with a team of great players- surely should be able to get Top4 if he's an elite manager as suggested.
nah, they will get injured if he starts training them. He's a german dogmatist. A mediocrity.
@@lostintime519 meanwhile modern football is dominated by german coaches and german teams ... last 3 ucls were won by teams that have german coaches ... what tuchel has done to chelsea in the last 10 months the likes of lampard gerrard xavi and pirlo wouldnt do in 10 lives ... he s not the saviour of man utd , he is just a piece in a puzzle , one of the most important pieces ofc.
I think perhaps the "Consultant" title is used becaure United already has Fletcher and Murtogh in the roles of technical director and sporting director/director of football and the club didn't want to be disrespectful to those two long-time United people. If his philosophy and style turns out good for United and the results, I do hope that his consultancy role gives him total control to implement his system and thinking throughout the football aspect of United, something that Sir Alex did when he was in charge, rather than just a lip-service kind of role. The Glazers jolly well learn from the mistakes of the past post-Sir Alex years.
Finally the wait is over

The word interim is a bit tricky in this context. If things go well in the future, people will forget about Pochhetino by then and if the club’s expectations are not met, the door will wide open to go for a different option.
It is fine that he is an excellent coach, but is he a magician because that’s what they need.
I had a blackout on Friday just got power back found out we drew with Chelsea and got ragnick not bad
Yessssssssssss!!!!!!!
The godfather of German football is now Manchester United manager
Rangnick is definitely capable of being a full time coach/manager but at this point of his footballing life would rather build something and be behind the scenes than be a manager.
