      Yes that's what the hole in the felt is designed for. If you look at the instruction booklet that comes with the zippo box it says to store an extra flint there. Most people don't know about it because nobody reads the instructions

    • @ChiefSpookyFish
      @ChiefSpookyFish 4 года назад +32

      @@mustangrt8866 It's what the little hole is designed for, and if you fill it correctly the flint is not stored in the fuel. You are supposed to lift the felt and soak the cotton underneath it, not like how the guy in this video does it. There's a reason it says "lift to fill" 3 times in capital letters.

    I class it into 3 categories now obviously there are many in between and beyond. Zippo, Bic and matches. Zippo is my favorite, good windproof flame, tough design, love the click, great as a smoker. Bic, cheap, lasts for a long time and a flame when you need one. Matches, cheap, and of course these dont run out until the box or book is done. Ive had weeks with others but years with a zippo. No lighter can come close to replacing it.

    (not sure if already mentioned in comments) a simple solution to stop it leaking fluid onto a surface when refilling is to flick up the piece opposite to the striker wheel and then turn it upside down and it will slide into the case, so any fluid leaking will stay at the bottom of the case and can get absorbed by the cotton after a few uses.

Pretty awesome! I use a metal Clipper with a LighterBro lighter case right now and I don't think I could give up the extra functionality of my case to rock one of my Zippos, but I may keep one in my bag with one of the torch inserts for sure.

    Zippos are fun fidget spinners for adults, but they compare to modern lighters the way an abacus compares to a calculator. You can get a modern windproof refillable torch lighter for like 2 USD and all the fuel doesn't evaporate out of it every other week like with a zippo. Not to mention the fact that zippos suck for candles and pipes whereas the cheapo plastic lighter works well for all three.

    Zippo lighters, cheap, simple, reliable, and will last for generations. You can buy one for 10 bucks at Walmart and it will outlast your great grandchildren. I like that you can use pretty much any liquid that burns as fuel, I'm currently using naptha gas in mine, ( 7 dollars a gallon ) just to see if it would work, and it does, works just fine. I could buy a cheap ass piece of Chinese junk at the dollar store, but I'm not going to, the " proudly made in America " zippo is a nifty little piece of machinery, and I really like mine, I have the brass 1937 replica model and it's as cool as cool can be.

    You can hold an extra flint in the bottom of the lighter where the hole is. You can also buy small containers to carry with you, its about the size of a regular Bic lighter, that'll keep extra fuel in it and a flint. I have one but haven't used it in about a year, it still has fuel in it.
    I personally love Zippo lighters. I also have a little Zippo pouch that slides on my belt. Its pretty nice to know exactly where your lighter is, every time you need it.

    Great video, a bit off topic but i can hear very slight shaking in my gas mask filter but its not leaking, is it safe to use and will it work? it sounds like the charcoal is moving in there, but is it normal?

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  5 лет назад +4

      Sometimes that's just because the filter is not 100% crammed with charcoal granules so they move around a bit if you shake the filter, is the filter sealed properly and in date? If so it should work fine.

    i believe that everyone at the very least should have owned a zippo. even if you arent a smoker, you can still utilize it. The staple of the lighter in itself is so synonymous with the history of our country just as much as the lever-action rifles are. i cant think of any lighter that you can use that is good for the environment (due to less waste, you can recycle the fuel tins), and you can just get new parts should you need them. i think it also teaches you carefulness and patience when using just a zippo. the brass one looks really nice though, i might just pick up a solid brass one on amazon while im out on my trip. i managed to snag a free collectible harley davidson zippo with it's tin from my neighbor who left it in one of the drawers of his throwaway things. i dont even bike. take care of your things and they will take care of you :D

    There is a lighter called permanent, forever, or survival match. It has a little screw cap that you pull out. It's a tube with a wick and flint that you light with a striker on the body. There is also the peanut style lighter that has a cover that screws on. There are also the lift arm style lighters.

    You must try the frezer bag corner trick fill your Zippo insert then before you reinstall it place the frezer bag over the felt on the bottom of the insert this drastically inproves fuel econemy , also you could cut an 1.5 inch bicycle tire tube more than an inch overbthe top and bottom casevof your lightet it also prevents evaporation !

    got my first in 1968. a zippo can; be a lighter for most anything, it can be a stove, a pocket or foot warmer, it can cauterize wounds (or just make scars to tell lies about later), it can seal wounds, it can create wounds; asphyxiate, burn, cut or as a brass knuckle, it can be used as a signaling device, and finally, it can be used to pick up chicks if you know how to snap it open and light it with one movement...
    wait, when the hinge pins fall out, it can be used to take up space in the junk drawyer

    The biggest con for me personally is that there is no real warning that your low on fuel many times I’ve been out and about and it’s ran out on me and I’ve opened it up and can still smell fuel but it won’t light, disposable lighters you can sometimes get one or two last lights out of one before it’s totally empty (enough to light your cigarette till you can get a new lighter anyway) but still, wouldn’t change my zippo for anything else, something charming about the fact they are still made in usa aswell and haven’t moved production abroad like a lot of companies do!

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  5 лет назад

      Yeah most of the flaws a Zippo has are pretty unavoidable with liquid fuel lighters of all types, some have better O-rings than a Zippo but in general they can all suddenly dry up without warning.

    Zippos are like those expensive pens. Kind of pointless because you can get the job done with a BIC pen for a few cents, but ionno. I've always liked these sort of pointless things, even if better alternatives are there. I guess it's the fact that you can customize it to how you want and are forced to interact with it so it works (changing wick, refuel etc). Gives it a bit of charm.

    I live in a part of Canada where temperatures drop well below -40 Celsius in the winter months. A regular Bic lighter will stop working properly at around -25 and will have to be held against the skin to warm up and repressurize. I've never had a Zippo fail to light due to the cold. It will even light when it's a bit wet - such as during heavy snowfall.

      Not sure what you have there but i have been super happy finding fuel meant for small 4-stroke engines such as lawnmowers. I get it 2 €/liter instead of the 20+ €/liter for real lighter fluid, and it's just as good as the real one except it evaporates even faster. At that price though i'm happy to refill the lighter more often. Americans have some Coleman camping fuel or something that works for them.

    I think for the price of a bic or a basic Zippo there's no reason not to own both. The bics are dependable and have a much longer shelf life but Zippos perform better in wind and can be rebuilt with everyday items like cotton and can run on different fuels. You can even use the flint from bic lighters in a Zippo. Back when I used to smoke there were many times where I had lost all of my bics so I'd grab an old Zippo add a little fluid and be back in business.
