I’ve purchased all of their inserts. The butane ones are absolutely incredible! I don’t even smoke; I just love carrying a lighter with me (and a leatherman). I prefer the butane ones over the traditional wicking lighters because the lighter fluid is messy and can stain the inside of the case. And like you said, the fluid evaporates and the lighter won’t work when you need it to. But with butane this thing is next level amazing. Great video!
They do actually make a different butane style insert I bought last week. It's just like a regular zippo using the flint wheel to spark, and gives off a yellow flame just like a bic lighter. This one is my personal favorite.
✅ I have several standard Zippo lighters... I switched a few to the butane inserts...I've found them to be quite handy for lighting damp tinder to melting silver solder for wire to wire connections and the bonus is I don't have to worry about the standard fluid leaking out into my pack or pocket.

I bought the butane insert a few weeks ago and its excellent in terms of quality. But I noticed that the torch flame burns the cigarette at a much higher temperature than a soft flame and the cigarette doesn't taste and feel the same. So I switched back to the standard insert. I'll keep the butane insert though for other stuff.
Excellent video, I just ordered the Thunderbird pipe insert as I love the look of lighting my pipes with a zippo but like you mentioned not being a cigarette smoker I don't use it every day and would constantly run out of fluid if I had the standard zippo pipe insert.
Been using Zippos off and on for decades, when I saw the butane inserts I bought one. Personally I like it better than the old school lighter fluid. I smoke cigars and it gets 'em going with the quickness.
Yes butane is better as it seals the gas inside and offers a clean fire, butane inserts are also much cleaner for Zippo brand lighters as it doesn't create rust on the insert or case. I just ordered Zippo Yellow flame as I don't like the high butane cost of torch. Once I get it I'll have a butane, arc, and original zippo inserts all with cases so I can use all energy sources as fuel.
I had a matte back zippo as a teenager. I flipped it open, and the lid flipped right off. Pin fell out. Who knows when. I knew I could send it in and replaced it for free. But again. Kid. Bought another one. Say. In 2015(?) plain silver from walmart.Started using it the last few months. I bought both butane knserts. So far, I've liked the soft flame butane insert.
Its really the best of both worlds. Greatness of the zippo without the liquid fuel problem. The one you showed a few months ago looks just as good though

This is an old video, relatively speaking. Zippo now makes a soft flame butane insert that also uses flints for ignition. I know because I just bought one the other day. My only complaint with it is, like current Bic lighters, you can't adjust the flame.
