We keep the lead short so thet walk in a heal position directly next to you. Its much easier to control them with the lead in top of their neck, not around the bottom. We also keep our instructions to 1 word commands. Russell Come. Russell Heal, Russell down, Tissell sit, Russell fetch, etc.. They don't understand sentences. Just short commands repeated with a reward
When I leash train puppies I let them drag a leash, ALWAYS supervised. Like when you let Russell and skeeter play. Just drop the leash and let him drag it. They learn pretty quickly that the leash will not hurt them. They also learn some boundaries because they will step on it and pull themselves up short. But that has always worked to take away the fear of the leash. I don’t initially worry about them holding the leash however I never let them chew the leash.
That was a good start for Russell. He will get use to the leash. We know he is fine but Cora was worried. She was so happy to have him back by her. She's a good mama. I think she knows he isn't leaving. She is attached to Russell. So is Leske, he's a great dad
Train on an empty stomach! Use his kibble and treat treat treat! Command to sit, treat then put on the leash immediately treat. Keep his attention focused on you while you hold the treat low and walk enticing him to walk towards the treat as you walk, give him the treat after a few steps and repeat repeat repeat. When talking to him hold a treat up to your face and reward when he looks at you. It teaches focus on you and makes him eager to follow commands. Multiple short sessions daily.
I noticed that too, the earlier the better. Also, he needs to be around Smeegle a lot too. If not their prey drive kicks in when they see a chicken or cat take off running from them. They will give chase.
Leash training probably needs to be done for a short time everyday and try not to take the leash off when they're pulling and complaining or they'll pull and complain just to get you to remove it. I can't wait to see Russell meet Mojo! It was fun to watch him play with Skeeter! Good luck with the weather!
Kevin, if you stick with simple commands like, sit, stay, down, come, off, heel, and no, and everybody in your family agrees on the meaning and desired behavior, Russel will learn and not be confused. Keeping him on the lead is probably a good idea in the beginning until he can show you he understands. He's smart, so he'll learn as long as the humans stick with the program. (It's always the humans who mess it up !!). The other command I like is, Leave It -- meaning drop it, or let go. It's a handy command.
When you are leash training, try to keep the leash shorter so Russel has to walk next to you. If he resists, make him sit. When he sits, praise him and then tell him “come”. Be sure to praise him only when he does what you tell him.
Actually, eventually he should learn to walk beside your left side which is the standard with dog training. When he is bigger, his head should be near your left knee.
My advise is to concentrate most on recall as a dog mom of a super sized dogs myself. I trained hard when they were young; the age of Russel and now they will stick to me like glue if I request it. I’m 120 pounds, 55 year old woman and my dogs are Great Dane mixed with something (?) but they weigh in over 160 #’s of muscle so I certainly can’t overpower them if they wanted to. It’s just a joy to see a dog that loves to be with their people more than a rabbit or what have you right? Such an exciting time for you all, I’m glad to be along for the ride so thanks for including us! Russell is darling!
Smee is the best -- you can tell he totally understands what Kevin is saying. Smee is what I call a "PuppyCat" -- PuppyCat was not a dog. PuppyCat was not a cat. He was *_PUPPYCAT_* !!
@Reef816WoW! You’re a real ‘character’ yourself @Reef816, (albeit ‘character’ is not the name that immediately came to mind to describe you, when I first read your nasty response). It’s a shame you didn’t check out the 60+ 👍🏻 @paulettek3682 got in agreement with her views of smeagle before you left your snide comment. 😂
Russell looks so good in the red collar. He’s really growing quickly. Maybe get one of those treat pouches to have reward treats for Russell. That way he should follow the leash more easily.
Don't pay any attention to when people complain about the video making people have motion sickness. If it does they can just close their eyes and listen. I know you try to do the best you can.
16:00 - Kevin, you need to get some "pool noodles" and slice them lengthwise, and place them as "neck guards" for the emu feeder. Yoshi and Yoneg are rubbing the feathers off their necks!
I have a blue heeler and she's 1 1/2 yrs old. Food is a great motivator for her. Just little bites work well. She's so strong that if I don't pay attention all of the time, I find myself on the ground! So lots of patience and some treats and he'll be perfect. I love watching Kora. She's a fantastic momma. Your videos are so sweet. I'm excited to see what MoJo thinks.
I don't know if you're planning on breeding Cora and Leeske again, but i wanted to mention that now that she's not nursing the puppies anymore she'll likely come into heat again soon. It's something to be aware of, especially if you don't want them to breed again right away.
Russ gas a mind of his own! Stubborn and dramatic! I grew up in Tulsa and have a sister living in Claremore , I sure like your references to the w weather.
Fun to see Russel and Skitter playing they got along well. He did good on the leash for the first time. Keep Smiling. Safe Safe (from the storm). God Bless Y'all And The Farm. ❤🙏
WOW! Russell is growing fast. I love his color. With all the nastiest going on in the world it's great watching videos like yours to take us from that part of the world. Teaching dogs is no easy task. Eventually Russell will come around. I love his colors. 😊❤❤❤
Treats will be a big motivator with Russel. Just do any training before you feed him. Always a big hoot and haller when he comes to u. Try not to give commands when he isn’t paying attention. Treats will help with that. Thanku for being u and for doing what u do 🐾❤️🐾
Russel will eventually get use to the leash I think he loved playing with Skitter that will be his little treat to go on a leash. It was so sweet as if he was saying, " help mother I am being pulled by the neck". Its fun watching you feed the animals and all the other interaction. Skitter is very responsive to your commands, very clever sweet little dog. UK.
I think people forget that Kora & Leesky were puppies when you got them and you trained them and they turned out GREAT. Im an animal rescuer and I think its great what your doing ❤
@@gifted_animalrescuer This is exactly what I was going to post..."Uh, I think they know more about the training needed for their farm than anyone else, and besides both Mr. Leesky and Miss Kora were also puppies...and look what wonderful guard dogs they've turned out to be and also evidently with Russell being trained up to be like Uncle Mojo, he'll be different than his mommy and daddy....he'll be out and about around the house. He's going to be TERRIFFIC!!!!!
You have to remember these dogs are guardian dogs and are bread to be independent strong dogs. They are from Turkey where the farmers send them out with their flocks and no humans for months on end. They have to feed themselves etc and protect the flocks. I have one in my home because I use him to protect my Bulldogs from predators where I live in the Rocky Mountains. I have had issues with my Anatolian Shepherd stealing food off my counters but it is my fault if this happens because this has been bread into their genes for a reason. My dog does walk well on a leash but if he gets off the leash he elopes but always returns within 5 minutes to where ever I am.
No little kid wants to do what they don't want to do. And the world is exciting, and there's so much he'd rather be doing than training on that leash. But the leash training is actually going to make his life better, as a useful working dog. And there will be places he can be taken, well-trained on a leash, that would be difficult or impossible without one. He can walk into a vets office on his own power on a leash. He'll be a better working dog if he is trained that way, and he is born with a need to work for his pack, the people, dogs and other animals. He will feel more competent, then. But like a baby crying, it just sounds terrible when he cries out against it! You have to steel up, and give him what he needs, sometimes, not always what he wants.
I obedience trained all of my dogs, starting at an early age. I started off with putting the lead on them and letting them drag it, so they could get use to it's weight. Then I started training them always on the left side and with using bait, would lead them forward with it for a short distance, praising them as we walked, then giving them the bait and more praise. I would gradually lengthen the distance and lessen the amount of bait. Yes, they would rebel from time to time, but the positive training worked great with all my dogs. Most were show dogs and went into the ring at 6-8 months of age and always won ribbons. I had 4 Champions, 2 of them took Best of Breed at their first show. You are doing right by early training, but no matter how old a dog is, they can learn.
Leash training is important indeed. It is made easier by having Russell hungry and giving him lots of treats for every good command response and good walking with you.
Russel is growing up so fast❤he’s gorgeous. All your animals have great character 😊 thank you for sharing your day❤ I hope the storms doesn’t damage the farm take care ❤
I’ve used the Gentle Leaders for our huge dogs. They work like a horse halter, you control their head & they go where you want! Little kids could even walk our 150 lb Rottweiler & 130 lb Husky. They are wonderful!!! Check them out!!! Highly recommend!!!
Mojo does just what my big guy does to get me to love on him. My 2 little dogs just jump up and lean on me, and cry if I do not love them. One cat reaches out if I am standing next to her, and one reaches up and digs her paws into my knee, and the other cat will roll down on the floor and wait for me to ruffle her belly. Got to love all the uniqueness of each fur baby and how they act to get loving. Kora is acting like she is guarding her baby and does not like Russell being away from her.
If you are outside with him you could let him drag the leash around and get him used to it. While he has the leash on you could also play with a toy so he associates the leash with something fun.
The bigger Russell gets, the more he reminds me of Daisy!!!! Can't wait to see how Mojo reacts to him!!! Just be sure Miss Kora isn't around when the two of them meet up!
Hi Kevin. Russell is growing so fast. He did really well meeting Skeeter. Skeeter can teach him speed and agility. Cora is such a good Momma, watching out for Russell. I hope that you, Rachel, Kyha, Caleb, and all the animals stay safe during the storm. Love to you all. ❤
Go Russell & Sketer go dogs go 😂! Russ such a good boy & love watching you all with him! 🙋♀️❣️🌻Kora was very nervous & watching close her Baby boy Russ...🐾🐕
Good seeing Skeeter and Russell playing together. Just be consistent with Russell. Everyone has to use the same commands so he knows what's expected of him. Can't wait for him to meet Mojo. GOD bless y'all.
Thanks for the video. Can’t wait to see Russel and Mo Jo first meeting. Hope the hail passes right around you.🙏
You made me happy about leash training! ALL dogs should be leash AND car trained. Recall “come” too.
yep basics, it's obedience training as well. Rachel will train him to heel, no doubt.
Slow but steady 👍
Insurance made us made on time too. We had roof damage from a storm too. They wouldn’t replace but half our roof.
When I leash train puppies I let them drag a leash, ALWAYS supervised. Like when you let Russell and skeeter play. Just drop the leash and let him drag it. Mojo is the super special. I feel like he is your soul dog

Mojo is a gentle giant. And he’s super smart. I think he thinks he’s part human (lol) cuz he’s a big part of the family.
Russell didn't seem to care about the chicken!❤
I noticed that too, the earlier the better. Also, he needs to be around Smeegle a lot too. If not their prey drive kicks in when they see a chicken or cat take off running from them. They will give chase.

You’re Absolutely Correct...
Dogs Should Learn BASICS-FIRST.
And THAT...Should Be TRUE
For EVERY Dog.
🐶
WOOF.
Another command I taught my dogs...'other side'. They go the side I want them to go to.
How enjoyable to watch Russell play with Skeeter! I love how you talk to your animals. Your love for them is so evident.
Leash training is just patience.
Russell is growing quickly into the handsome guy he will become. He looks like a good fit for your family. Enjoy his puppyhood. Blessings
When you are leash training, try to keep the leash shorter so Russel has to walk next to you. If he resists, make him sit. When he sits, praise him and then tell him “come”. Be sure to praise him only when he does what you tell him.

I believe pups walk beside better due to knowing you are the boss and slacker lead better. Just stop and turn if they pull. Only my experience.
Training with treats usually brings good results! Russell is so cute!! Thanks for all the videos!
If you don't want to use treats just use his kibble he seems to love it
Russell is a very happy Puppy.🐕❤️Love Russell and Skeeter playing.❤️❤️❤️👍
Let's see your other property!❤❤❤❤
Omg mr russell is getting big each time you do a video. Cant wait for him to see mr mojo. Sending all my love to all the family ❤❤

I love seeing Skeeter and Russell playing.
I think Smeegle is my favorite character. He always has to be in the middle of the action. No offense to anyone else, human or animal.
Smee is the best -- you can tell he totally understands what Kevin is saying. Smee is what I call a "PuppyCat" -- PuppyCat was not a dog. PuppyCat was not a cat. He was *_PUPPYCAT_* !!

@Reef816the expression character is purely an expression. Well in England it is lol.....
Lord Smeegle Of The Manor 😂
The stealth operative that sees all !! 😂😂
Russell looks so good in the red collar. He’s really growing quickly. Maybe get one of those treat pouches to have reward treats for Russell. That way he should follow the leash more easily.
Hi y'all. Kevin I love how you do the voices for the dogs , you have some pretty special animals there. God bless you all❤❤❤❤
Kevin needs to find a special voice for Russell!!!
Don't pay any attention to when people complain about the video making people have motion sickness. If it does they can just close their eyes and listen. I know you try to do the best you can.
You are doing great Kevin. Just takes time. Russell will be a great LGD. ❤
I love his big white boot, he has gotten so big. He looks so grown up with the cool collar
We followed Cesar Milan method of training. He’s know as the Dog Whisper
16:00 - Kevin, you need to get some "pool noodles" and slice them lengthwise, and place them as "neck guards" for the emu feeder. Yoshi and Yoneg are rubbing the feathers off their necks!
I’ve tried telling them several times and nothing he even liked my comment.🤔
EEEEEMU. EEE. 😊❤❤❤❤❤I love you guys
Love watching Skeeter play with Russell. So cute. He's so fast. Energizer bunny.... LOL
Love watching you guys. You treat all your animals so good. Thank you for all you do.
Cora is such a great mom
Yes she really kept a eye out for her baby russell she is a excellent mama
Puppy dramatics! 😀
I am so happy to see how Russel and Skitter got along so good. He needs that activity
Yep… get a terrier type dog or schnauzer like Skeeter and watch the action.
Oh how cool the way Mom watches over baby Russell...so adorable 😍 💕 and Skeeter just having fun wants to play with the newbie on the block 😂
Russell is so beautiful wow he’s growing so fast! Good choice on the collar, it suits him!
Hello Kevin, Family & Friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter 🐣
Donkey's make good guard dogs too. They can be lethal if goats are in danger.😊
Russ is getting big. I hope Mojo and Smeegle will be safe in the storm. I hope you, Rachel and the kids had a wonderful Easter Kevin.
❤❤❤❤❤
The Mojo voiceover is hilarious! 😂 Little Russell is adorable with his lamb face ❤
Lolololol Russel is so cute and SO HUNGRY!!! He says he is SO hungry he could eat a whole bison! Lol😂
I don't know if you're planning on breeding Cora and Leeske again, but i wanted to mention that now that she's not nursing the puppies anymore she'll likely come into heat again soon. It's something to be aware of, especially if you don't want them to breed again right away.
I am amazed at how Cora cares for her babies. And this is her first litter. I’m jealous of her mothering skills. Lol
Russ gas a mind of his own! Stubborn and dramatic! I grew up in Tulsa and have a sister living in Claremore , I sure like your references to the w weather.
Russell is getting so big and still has a lot of growing to still do. Great job with him.❤❤
Smeegle is a good training partner for Russell!!!!!❤❤❤ You help alot also, just talking while you walk him.❤❤❤❤
Fun to see Russel and Skitter playing they got along well. He did good on the leash for the first time. Keep Smiling. Safe Safe (from the storm). God Bless Y'all And The Farm. ❤🙏
It's so cute with skitter and Russ playing.
Just being consistent with him is definitely the key.
We used specific words -
💜💜💜
Mojo you are a sweety❤
Hi Kevin and everyone. 😊Hope everyone is having a greatvday.😊
Happy Birthday Sweet Angel 🎉😇❤🎈🎈🎈🎈🎂🎁
TREATS!
Thanks for sharing. Not easy when everyone is a sidewalk supervisor. Russell sure is growing. WOW. Dogs are loving the Eggs. Blessings to HHF 🙏🫶🙏🫶🥰

Best wishes with training Russell! He is a prime candidate to learn!🌻
You’re grandpa! 😂❤ Russell is so adorable

Hiya Kevin..I'm glad you are aware of the storms coming..I'm glad you n family are safe..stay safe..
Russell did good today in training 👍🏽🤗😊
You do what you can, don’t worry about what others think!!!
I can tell Russell is getting bigger. His red collar looks nice on him.

For training purposes, Russell should be on leash every time you issue an obedience command. Never let him ignore your "commands".🐾🇺🇸🐕🦺🦮

Yes! Gentle leaders are amazing! But if get it you need to get Russ used to it sooner than later.
Wow he is growing fast!!! The feet get bigger then the legs and body grow in proportion, bet he ends up being bigger than Leski.
Russell was walking u 😂

He has really grown and so beautiful! Glad you decided to keep him. Love watching your videos and

Love watching GROW
Treats to train any animal !!! If they know the treat is coming they will learn really quick!!
Let him go where he wants to go so he can get use to the feeling of it and then he will gradually go where you want him to go.
Russell loves his daddy he is getting so big.
Fresh water always is a key to a beautiful coat. Change it often 😊
Love watching your beautiful animals 😍 cannot believe how big Russell is getting so fast and he is beautiful too!!!
It was cute when he wanted to take dad for a walk LOL
Good seeing Skeeter and Russell playing together. Just be consistent with Russell. Everyone has to use the same commands so he knows what's expected of him. Can't wait for him to meet Mojo. GOD bless y'all.
