Vegeta wearing less Saiyan armor is a great metaphor for how his time on earth changed him gradually from a cold prince to a father and a warrior. Majin vegeta is proof of him realizing how he's gotten soft, and if goku was around which he should have been, then vegeta would have progressed much further as a character like he does at the end of the buu saga.

If you think about non newtnic fluids, these are flexible when you move them slowly, but hard as a rock when you hit them. That means the shoulder pads can shatter And be flexible at the same time 💪🏼
Well everyone already pointed out armor wasnt allowed during the tournament, but you also have to consider that with gokus return to being alive after Z, vegeta was preparing to throw hands and blasts with goku again, so the armor return makes sense. What doesnt make sense is him not having any arm protection. After 18, that would have been the smart thing becauase he is always holding it
The armor is hyper-elastic, so much so it expands to fit when he becomes a great ape and back, the shoulder guards are pretty much irrelevant for mobility
He is not wearing his armor in the Buu saga because armors are not allowed in the tournament and he didn't have time to change outfits until the end of saga.
i dont mind vegeta having armor for the simple fact its something that sticks with him its a reflection of his character. altho vegeta's earth clothes reflect him becoming more like a earthling his battle armor suits his saiyan side

The shoulder guards don’t restrict movement due to how the armor works. It has immense flexibility while keeping the durable property’s of armor. It stays on even while becoming a great ape. It allows him to attack without any hinderances whatsoever.
