You're a beginner??? You sound like a rocket scientist to me with your knowledge of Synfig! I would love to be able to make animation like you have at the beginning of this video. I'm going to download Synfig and see if I can get something going. I Liked, Subscribed, and turned on Notifications (that's a hint for you to make more videos - ha ha!). Thank you for sharing!
I think she means that she is a beginner with the whole animating aspect (realistic movements, squish & stretch etc.) not the software itself, which she is obviously very experienced with.
Thank you for this tutorial. It's concise and moves at an appropriate pace without leaving out anything important. It's nice having a beginner friendly video made by someone who hasn't spent years and years doing it, making them forget what is and isn't common knowledge
This was sooo helpful! Thank you! Straight to the point to get quickly started. Thanks to you and the awesome developers of Synfig, I was able to make my very first animation. A dream come true!
Super helpful! An awesome Synfig how-to for anyone getting started with this tool. Gets to the details right away and covers a complete animation example, while giving just enough information on the way to let you know why you're doing each step. Thank yo so much for making and posting this!
Yeah, this helped me cause I wanna make an object show and I couldn't use Adobe animate cause I'm still a kid and can't pay monthly. Plus, I didn't wanna keep re-drawing something multiple times
I'm a beginner animator too (only ever animated in Scratch) and I was looking for a good tutorial on Synfig because it was the first vector animation one I found. This was really helpful, thanks!
i barely noticed you only had 276 subscribers (i'm one of them now) because this looks so professional and smooth. i'll be studying this app for online school this year and you are a life saver! Thank you~
Thank you, you did a great job. I have 2 monitors so i was able to watch on one and work on the other. Don't understand why you have 12 down votes I thought you did a GREAT JOB teaching.
This is a great tutorial. I see this is just like Gimp in the tool selection regions. I can now effectively use Gimp as well as Synfig thanks to your instructions, though you do go a little fast. Thankfully, I can slow down the video and run at my own pace. Thank you!! I want to use this tool to create animated Psychology videos to show my classes. Nicely done.
Really great intro tutorial, Jess. Having had intermittent experience with other vector/bitmap drawing/animation tools over the years, I knew what I wanted to do, but wasn't familiar with the workflow in Synfig. You gave me enough to know where to start, and what I need to learn more about. Thanks!
Awesome tutorial. I've downloaded and started Synfig several times over the years, but the poor documentation always frustrated me. I learned more here than I ever did reading the docs. Thanks for taking the time to make it and post it.
I am an avid Animate user but really want to get away from using it for new projects... the hardest step when all your assets are made in one program and that program happens to be what you use for everything is that finding then learning a new program is a really rough journey if you have little time to set aside. Synfig looks most appealing along with Krita which both have Linux support so I can gradually steer away from relying windows. This tutorial really helped me because the timeline is not very intuitive with Synfig to me compared to Animate where you can just start drawing frame after frame and it all starts to make sense! XD
The best tutorial I saw for a long time. It is just a tiny bit too fast locking it the first time. Compared to 99.9% of the utorials out there witch are way too slow. thisone is almost perfect!
Thank you very much for your input. I do have a habit of talking a bit fast. I'd recommend maybe altering RUclips's playback speed, maybe 75% might work better for viewers watching the video for the first time
This tutorial is great, thank you! I want to animate some Inkscape drawings, so this gives me at least a starting point on how that works. I'd looked at a few tutorials before this and yours is the most straight forward.
Just wanted something a lil bit capable and simple to run the social media side of the business, you and synfig are the missing part, may Allah bless you.
Thank you, you have solved how to use a reference file to be used in other new files without changing the reference file too! There is one thing though, If I want to change a thing in my reference character, like a shape of the eyes for examples, the change does not appear in the other files! Thank you!
Every time when I open this program it looks like the developers come from another planet. They have never seen Coral, Illustrator, or Inscape? They are so good at making uncomfortable programs, they need to have a special award.

@@atomixify Wow! That look amazing for your first work on Synfig. I love how you did the overlapping brown circles under the eyes. I hope you keep up the good work :)
I’ve been using Krita to do my animations for the past couple of years, and I’m very new at animating and have thought of switching to a new program when I get my new laptop in the spring. Right now it takes me SO LONG to make a five minute long animation because I’m having to do everything (like face chances, arm positions, etc) all manually. But when I saw you draw that first bubble then the end one, and Synfig did the in between animation of it getting bigger, my jaw literally hit the floor. Using this software would save me SO much time and I would be able to get my videos done so much faster! Thank you for showing this! Also I loved that you had highlight boxes and arrows pointing to all the buttons - that was such a big help!
Thank you for the tutorial! Your videos help me a lot in Synfig. Umm, It really helps me to make animation by using audio so, can we put an audio on Synfig??

wow i had downloaded synfig an hour ago and i wanted to make 2d animation .you realllyy helped me thank you. 3:15 i didnt unetrstand help me and uhh how to end draw tool
At 3:15 I am discussing how to display handles on shapes, which allows you to manipulate shapes after you've already drawn them. First make a shape with either a shape tool or the draw tool, then make sure you click on that shape to have it selected. After you click on the shape you should see some small circles show up. The program calls these small circles "handles". You can use the bar at the top of the page to choose which handles to display. If you hover your mouse over the toolbar in Synfig, it should bring up a little black text box that tells you what kind of handles it turns on and off. Hope that helps. To start the draw tool, you have to left click and hold your mouse on the canvas, after you've finished drawing your shape, let go of the mouse button and it should stop drawing. If you're talking about the spline tool, that is harder to turn off. When you're done using the spline tool, you have to click on the spline tool again in your toolbar.
I was trying to follow the tutorial and it should probably be mentioned that some of the properties of the assets are set to "Forbid Animation" by default for some reason. I was confused trying to animate something just to move it from one point to another but would not animate. Turns out the "offset" property was set to forbid animation and had to be manually turned on to allow. I couldn't get this ball to move from one point to another. I could resize it but moving it didn't create those diamond things on the time line that showed change.
There's a follow-up to this tutorial! It's over here:
