Let's get one thing straight. People don't hate Nu Trek for "progressive ideas". Star Trek has ALWAYS been progressive. But Disco shoves it in your face and becomes preachy to the point where it's utterly distracting to the story they are trying to tell (which is usually weak to begin with). And the progressive ideas that they portray are so shallow and uninteresting -- and, at times, ridiculous to the point that it has the opposite effect to what was intended. For example, Tilley winning the marathon. They could have shown "body positivity" in a much smarter way. That's just one example of showing "progressive ideas" in such a stupid distracting way.
Agree. I am so sick of seeing a whole ship of psychological patients. and among that, that stupid smile of Michael all the time.
One would think that a show that had 30 producers in the opening credits would have produced better. But nah...
I was very disappointed with the resolution of the Moll & L'ak duo. She is willing to give technology to a race that she knows will destroy everything in their path, yet when she finds out that it will not give her what she wants she's just like, "well, ok then."
I definitely agree that the show should have been more of an ensemble like previous Series but instead it just felt lke The Michael Burnham show with her as the center and everything revolving around her.

When I was young I wanted to join tng ds9 even voyager inspired me to be losted 75,000 light years from home with a diverse characters but discovery or STD as it is named, does not inspire it checks boxes
While season 2 is definitely my favourite, I feel like Discovery really found its own identity in seasons 3-5. To me it feels very similar to Voyager in a way. It's comfort trek that becomes more enjoyable if you judge it for what it is rather than by the bigger ambitions and potential it initially had
@gannon, I completely agree with your take - Disco didn't struggle because it was "woke". It struggles from:
Story contrivances.
Often times horrible unbearable dialogue and forced emotional moments.
Questionable creative choices (over scoring, over use of lens flaw, overall cluttered audio mixing and gaudy visuals).
Exactly my sentiments, Star Trek is very dear to my heart, folk didn’t hate it because it was woke, trek has always been that, fans hated it because it’s just bad most of the time
The thing I'm having trouble with is why they downgraded Discovery back to its 23rd-century configuration at the end. It suggests that Discovery might be heading back to the 23rd century.

To be fair Battlestar galactica went off the rails its final season too, and its finale made little to no sense……….also LEE SHOULDVE BEEN COURTMARTIALED FOR LOOSING PEGASUS 🗿
The writing was horrible, but I did like the last fifteen minutes or so. I'm just frustrated that for whatever reason they gave up building more spore drive ships. And they essentially sentence that dreadship and other ship to death. I would have loved that they showed up at the very end. Cause that's how long it should have taken them to get back

Well, we had Star Trek: Picard, so why not Star Trek: Burnham? I guess because Picard was acceptable because he was an established and beloved character. But even with Picard, both the writers and Patrick Stewart realized that what the fans really wanted to see was a TNG reunion.

Capstone: Discovery is the absolute worst Trek ever. I think Michelle Paradise is hoping that the series will be better received in hindsight. I think she's mistaken.

If you evver give DS9 a proper chance, this woeful YA Kurtzman inspired discovery garbage will disappear into the weeds
The 2 things are not mutually exclusive. DS9 is generally better, but it doesn't mean Disco isn't worth watching.
At least half of ds9 was actually quite dreadful.
@@Dystopianutopiabuilds While DS9 as a whole was far better than Disco...Discovery never had episodes anywhere near as bad as Move Along Home, Profit and Lace, or Second Sight.
@@Dystopianutopiabuilds At least 98% of Discovery was actually quite dreadful. And, even tho modern lazy showrunners can't poop out more than 10 episodes every year or two, there are still many many times as bad episodes in Disco as in the entirity of DS9. When you have to create 25 episodes every single year, there will be a couple of duds. There is no excuse for almost the entire 10 episodes every 18 months being so dreadful.

Great relief. Thank Spock it is finally over and hopefully never comes back again. Wokeness killed Disney and marvel and now it’s time for Star Trek to bare the consequences. Just fly that ship into the next sun, and let’s forget the whole thing.

I would have liked to have seen the story about the scientists.
Couldn't care less about Space Jesus. That was one of the main problems of this show. The incessant focus on such an uninteresting character and the retconning of her character (who committed mutiny with much blood on her hands) into one who can do no wrong. That's the problem with Nu Trek writing. There are no real consequences. Nothing really matters. No continuity. Plot conveniences at every turn.
I really enjoyed this season
This final season was the worst. The plot was terrible, writing lazy, and the ending was poorly constructed and tossed off like they could care less about ending the series on a high note. The show jumped the shark and died horribly.
Ah yes, the finale of the pizza cutter ship, spock's sister, and the implausible tilly. *yawn*. Whatever.
It was ruined in the last three seasons when it went ultra (I don't know what they did). Michelle's writing is horrible and it looks like Martin-Green had an extremely negative effect on the show. It seems they lost the higher-quality writers and we were left with some poopoo.
Didn't the co-showrunner from seasons one and two have creative differences with Paradise and was fired?
Anyway. Just watch one and two and forget about the experiment gone wrong of 3-5. They could have hired some high school students to come up with the ideas and destroy the traditional characters. Maybe Paradise's children helped her write the story.
Was Lot or Lock pregnant? We forgot about that.
Keep Paradise AWAY from Star Trek. Never again allow Martin-Green to produce a project she acts in. The actors should be isolated from the writer's room. The writers should not have access to the actors.
The last season was almost unwatchable. Star fleet headquarters looks like an antique iron fence and the other star fleet ships were really ugly and weird. The 3d animation looked like it was done by a first year student. Real garbage. This show had so much potential, I thought this last season would've been a knockout like Picard but sadly it was imho it was the worst.

Glad this show is over. It was horrible in character development and stories. These characters are forgettable and will be forgotten.
Main problems is the writing was lacking a lot of times. Also too much crying all the damn crying from a woman who was raised on Vulcan.
I couldn't enjoy Discovery because it "took" core ideals and characters from the game Tardigrades developed by Amir Abdin. I only watched the show because of Tig Notaro...

The writers of this show is horrible. Dude i checked out after the burn. It was stupid they said they weren't using the spore drive in the fleet
I am a Trek fan from day one. This iteration is just as good as any other. It’s different for sure. The first season was painfully slow. Outside of that, great series, great cast, great special effects.
You cannot be serious. STD has been a mess. From unearned emotions to blatant disregard for the utopian premise to the blatant story contrivances to the lack of ensemble to the anachronistic technologies, STD has barely resembled Star Trek in anything but name.

I didn't understand why you dogged the whole season and praised the finale. The whole thing felt pieces together just boring. You are absolutely right about the overspending on SFX. More money to the writers should get better stories not in need of 10 million dollars of SFX per episode. Flashing shit I can barely make sense of doesn't work for me. Wasteful!

I will take this season over S3 of Picard every day of the week. I will take this season over S2 and 4 of Disco itself. There was an actual plot, even if not the best plot in all of Trek.
