I was surprised with the results of this review but then I didn’t test the controller scientifically - only by feel. Hope this helps anyone looking for a different opinion.

So for people looking for other reviews and opinions in the comments I hope I can help you out a little bit with my experience. So, personally I love the original design and structure of the Nintendo 64 controller. However, I might just be blessed with hands that fit the controller well. Anyways, most of my friends aren't fans of the Nintendo 64 controller and often complain about the third handle taking up too much room. I saw the Retro-Bit Tribute controller on Amazon for $25 for the N64 console version and $30 for the USB version. I have 2 Madcatz N64 to USB adapters for my PC so I decided to grab the N64 version for authenticey and the memory card slot exclusive to the N64 version of the controller. I've been using the controller for a couple of weeks now and it's been doing me very very well. It surpassed my expectations of just being another CirKa or cheap knock off brand controller that'll break after a day. The build quality while feeling slightly cheap and lightweight is still impressive for the $25 cost. I haven't noticed any issues with the sticks or buttons besides maybe the c-buttons being slightly slow on reading presses (could be caused by the emulator I was playing on tho). Overall I'm very impressed and satisfied with this controller and plan to keep using it for myself and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quick way to play N64 emulations slightly more authenticly.
Is there a single modern N64 controller replacement that actually has an accurate analog stick gate? Day after day I see new ones come out claiming to be the ultimate replacement for the original N64 controller, but they all end up sharing this exact same problem. It's very sadly infuriating.
It really is maddening. How the hell can these companies continue to drop the ball time and time again? Is it really too much to ask for a controller that, for once, delivers an authentic N64 analog stick experience?
@@dandy7477 I've always wondered, how exactly DOES the raphnet adapter work? The clearest answer I ever got was that it uses "software", which tells me nothing. Does the adapter fit the N64 gate inside of the gamecube gate, leaving the vertical/horizontal directions with extra space that input maximum tilt, or does it stretch the vertical/horizontal directions to meet the edges? Or does it do something completely different? I'm confused.
@@fanb1536 that's a good question. I've been using them for about 5 years now and honestly never noticed it being different than n64 in the gate difference. there’s only a handful. This design has been around since n64 came out. a random cheap conpany just decided to remake it. I think I’d prefer the original controller and maybe the Brawler64.
Thank you for an honest review. It seems I will be sticking to my original controllers for now. Its a shame no company can come up with a modern version of the original controller but with a robust analogue stick.
My biggest problem with the brawler is the ergonomics of the triggers/bumpers with how they're mapped. Specifically R. Having to constantly keep my pointer finger on the bumper is annoying and uncomfortable af. With the triggers, I don't like the springs mimicking as if they are analog when they aren't. I like tactile presses for digital buttons. Those two reasons are why I prefer the tribute 64. And yes, I own both controllers.
@@luispedroruizgarcia15 neither one is perfect. The HoriPad you get better movement but the triggers on the Brawler feel more natural for shooting. Movement on the Brawler is almost as good though, so I'd say that one for my money.
I just ordered 3 Brawler 64 controllers for the price of one Hori Pad because of your reviews. I hope it lives up to the hype! They should really sponsor you.
I have both this and a Hori. It holds up. Though, I will say the Hori was $75 total, not as bad as many make it out to be, but not exactly cheap either. The Retro-Bit Tribute64 is definitely a good controller, with a couple of setbacks. For the price, it's a great option.
Exactly the way I look at it I'd pay 60+ for a new xbox one or ps4 controller. Plus by playing all the old games I know I love instead of more expensive games that shove season passes and loot boxes down my throat, it kinda pays for itself in a way.
Event tough, very few games used the D-Pad stance to play the game with the trident controller, the D-Pad is not in an ergonomic position at all. Good luck playing Mischief Makers with that...
I was looking for a review/comparison of these yesterday and couldn't find one. Then Nintendrew puts this up today! (Also, I currently am wearing the same N64 shirt)
My retro bit tribute controller has the L R and Z on the triggers and shoulder buttons.... strange. Mine also has a higher quality joystick and has amazing sensitivity. I wonder if I have an updated model?
If you're planning on using this on PC, theres some jank with project64 as you need to use xinput to get it working, and the buttons are very strange by default. For example, the start button acts like the xbox button and activates some Microsoft game recording thing. Thankfully, you can use the extra Z button to pause instead and still get the same functionality. Personally, I use L to pause and left Z for the actual l button
i use this controller all the time this is my controller I recently bought a later model during the lockdown and honestly it feels so nice, definitely a more sensitive controller but in terms of finding a solid way to play n64 games in this day and age without fear of, serious joycon deterioration I would definitely recommend this controller as well as replacing an old n64 controller with a Gamecube style stick

Got one of these . Tried three different controller packs . All three got the " damaged controller pack " error. All three same controller packs work fine in Brawler 64 controllers and original 64 controllers..
I love the n64 but the original controller with its alien like design I do not. I like the hori, but it is too small for my gigantic monster hands and is uncomfortable after extented periods of play. I love that stick for all the 3d platformers though, not so much on the shooters. For me i like the brawler. It feels like a xbox 1 or switch controller in its shape. I do feel you on the stick tho. This helped me greatly with this controller while playing shadow man and hybrid heaven. I am still testing it out tho. Thanks for the video ;)
Great video, you confirmed what I already figured about the Rertro-Bit Tribute64. It's probably good enough for most on over the Hori Pad Mini (because of it's price) on N64 and good for N64 on pc. Not a replacement over the Hori Pad Mini and for a good cheaper alt controller get a Retro Fighters Brawler64. Didn't expect the Tribute64 to be that much worse then he Hori Pad Mini though.
I was wondering if one could fix the calibration issue by soldering some resistors in parallel to the potentiometers of the thumbstick. But this would also shift the neutral pisition, so it would not work. Different question: How does the odd calibration feel in a game? Do you move forward too rapidly or do you feel the thumbstick got stuck, although mechanically it isn't?
I have one of these myself, and I love it. Easily my favorite N64 controller. (Out of all the ones I've tried.) Works great for every game I've played, especially Smash Bros.
I'd just be happy to finally have the privilege of using an original N64 controller as intended. I've said it before; every single time I've played the N64, it was always with a controller that had a busted thumbstick. Ugh.
considering the fact that a good usb n64 adapter costs 12$ on amazon, I cant see why you would spend double on a meh cheap one that just "does the job"
With all these great N64 accessories coming out of the blue, do you think we'll ever see a re-done N64 Disc Drive? I mean, one that's relatively reasonably priced? Wouldn't it be amazing if that came out with full on developer support? Like, ROMhackers and Homebrewers could just make a game for the DD, print it out on a CD-ROM and sell it online? I would LOVE to seem Dreamcast Levels of Homebrew support for a "N64 DD-Neo".
I personally could never get used to the Hori pad mini. I have big hands and the controller feels way too tiny to the point where my 2nd knuckle rests on top of the shoulder buttons. The D-Pad is also unusable (for the games that use it of course) since thumbs end up bumping each other due to how close the A and B buttons are to it. I hope at some point someone makes a similar design but in a bigger form factor.

Can you test a memory pack in it to make sure it works ok? Thanks.
You should revisit this with the Warrior 64 controller, which is EVEN MORE a clone of the Hori pad and see how on the mark they got.
i forgot you existed. i think the last time i watched you was the nintendo labo vr stream
The Brawler is the way to go.
So I got the usb controller and it did work but after a couple days my computer didn’t and does not recognize it anymore. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem?
Me: I want a video on N64
Nintendrew: *Makes Video*
Me: 😆
1 year in of continued used of the tribute 64, it held up pretty well. For its price tag its pretty good. Retro bit's authentic Sega gensis/megadrive/saturn controllers are the better product tough
how many stars do you give to retro figther controller?
might get the usb seems soooo comfortable
I would be cool if you called this series *Nintendreviews*
I changed my favorite song to watch my favourite youtuber!
This was great! You should do more review videos like this.
Were is the intro? I like the intro. We need the intro jajaja
can you make a review for the cirka wireless gamecube controller in the future
Do a video on the updated models!!!! The plastics are still perfect after a month of heavy use from 3 people I even tortured it because of this video I also have experienced none of the graininess mentioned in the video I love it I bought two both are perfect imo they are a bit more sensitive but you get used to it and it has become my preference I can’t even go back to my original controller it bothers me I can do every level of mario 64 perfect I can do all of my race games and fighting games it’s amazing I even dropped one a bunch of times on hard wood floors it doesn’t even have a scratch and the joy stick still doesn’t have a scratch from use either I tried to replicate the wear you displayed on yours and couldn’t I got the clear blue ones for $23 each shipped I highly recommend couldn’t be happier the action and trigger buttons also feel better than all of my oem as and they actual shell feels high end like an official Nintendo one to me
What's the best N64 usb controller? The official Nintendo one?
Interesting! I use the 8bitdo Gamecube/Classic adapter on PC for my N64 emulation.
