    Speaking of Silicon Graphics, yeah they went to Sega and supposedly Tom Kalinski was in favor of it, but the head honchos in Japan weren't, as you said. Tom was the guy in charge of Sega's marketing in America and insisted on bundling Sonic the Hedgehog into every system along with a 149 price tag to combat the Super Nintendo's launch of 199. Japan hated the idea but let him go with it anyway. And thus Sega saw skyrocketing success, the most successful company to rival Nintendo up to that point. Tom was also against the idea of the 32X add-on, arguing instead to just focus on Genesis titles until the Saturn's launch. But HQ back in Japan said that something was needed to counter the Atari Jaguar and 3DO console. And we all know how that went.
    I know it sounds like Tom was the guy essentially responsible for success in the west and it's possible that some of this is just 20/20 hindsight but we do know that he was the one responsible for the bundle with Sonic, which was a fantastic move and in-favor of going with Silicon Graphics for Sega's next console. It makes for a fascinating "What If?" scenario where we wonder where Sega would be today with him at the helm.

    Man the gaming landscape would be completely different if Sega went with Silicon Graphics for hardware. I’m guessing the Saturn would essentially be an N64 with CD based games, which likely would have sold well in the west. But we wouldn’t get all the amazing 2D arcade games that the system is well known for.

In an way I palyed some of the N64 games thanks to Bleem alowing me to rent the PlayStation version form the loacl Blockbuster and the relesse of Rare Replay for the Xbox One. I don't count LodgeNet as I was never the kind of guy that wound pay perhour for games. Also alot of Nintendo 64 games needed more then 1 hour. Bleem fixed that for me since about $6 per game for the whole time of may say vs $8 per hour per game you can see why.

The best advise is to get the plugin GC lite or game catagories like which let's you sort your psp games in multiple faster loading folders. Out of the 5 "facts" you mentioned, the first two are wrong: 1) Space Station not working correctly is not a "fatal flaw" of the expansion pack, it's simply a bug in the game that was overlooked/ignored (the jumper pack already was available to developers at the time of the games release) 2) the N64 region lock is not analog only and also not only a 50/60Hz issue, each cartridge contains a region-coded security-chip (CIC) that prevents PAL games to boot on NTSC systems and vice versa, swapping cartridge shells or removing tabs inside the cartridge slot does not work in that case. What you describe only works between japanese and american games because they share the same CIC types. I stopped watching after that. For the next video, please have someone with knowledge of the topic at hand fact-check before publishing.

    • @Nintendrew
      @Nintendrew  7 месяцев назад

      Hey, there! Sorry you were disappointed in this video, but I'm here to hopefully clear up some points. 😅
      Regarding the 1st fact, you're absolutely right - it was an issue with sloppy code on DMA's part by all accounts. Calling it the "fatal flaw" of the expansion pak was really just my fun of saying "the only potential downside to using one". My bad if that wasn't clear, though.
      In the second fact, I specifically didn't dive into the differences between NTSC and PAL cartridges because that's not what that tidbit was about. My point was that there's no digital barrier between playing Japanese games on North American systems, and vice-versa. My understanding is the CIC is not relevant in that case, and only helps to prevent the use of unlicensed carts.
      Sometimes we get more deep into the tech side (one of my earliest vids was on making N64 repros when they had just become feasible 😛), but more often than not, my videos are meant to appeal to a broader audience. I'll often use colloquialisms or nutshell explanations to convey complex ideas. I'm disappointed that that came across as inaccurate info, but totally understand if that kind of thing is not your cup of tea. Thanks for stopping by, regardless!

    Hyundai used to be the biggest corporation in south korea back in 20th century. Started as a construction company, Hyundai used to do all sort of things, and releasing imported nintendo consoles by ″Hyundai Electronics″ (Hyundai Jeonja/현대전자) was one of their business. NES, Gameboy, Super Famicom, and Nintendo 64 were released by them. But due to financial crisis in south korea back in 1997 along with death of Hyundai's original founder Ju-young Jeong, Hyundai was split into dozens of companies, one of them being that famous Hyundai Motor Company Group. Hyundai Electronics is forever gone back then (Some of their business were moved to ″SK Hynix″. It's currently well-known world wide for computer RAM.), and nintendo products has been imported by company called Daewon until 2006, when nintendo of korea was founded/and still going strong ever since.
    Fun history lesson from drew's korean subscriber!

    1. An engraved batch number on the back label of an N64 cartridge is important if you're an N64 cartridge collector, looking to add to your collection. There are many reproduction N64 cartridges for sale on Amazon, eBay, Facebook Marketplace etc., either trying to be passed off as legit, or the seller doesn't realize they've got a repro. One way to easily tell is if the back label is missing an engraved number. Those cheap Chinese reproduction cartridges usually don't have numbers engraved into the back label. Authentic N64 cartridges will always have two digits or two digits and a letter engraved into the top right corner of the back label. Though, this may be harder to see in a photo, especially if the photo is in poor quality.
    2. Another option if you're looking to play Japanese cartridges on a U.S. console or vice-versa is to buy an adapter. I own an adapter cartridge called Ultra 64, and it has a cartridge connector on top, just like a GameShark. You can insert Japanese cartridges, and all the adapter does is act as a passthrough. A GameShark will work as well if you happen to have a working one laying around.
