      Yeah they always pick the muscle/sports/performance car out of the bunch, and probably Chargers more so than any other car.
      If ten cars all drive the exact same speed, 15 mph over the limit, and _one_ of them is a muscle, sports or a performance car - that's the one the cop will zero in on and ticket. Unless, you know, the above happens.

    The trick is to exit the highway or take a turn at the next intersection when you're sure the persuing car can no longer see you. Never prolong a pursuit on the same road, and never let him get close enough to read your tag. As soon as possible, get home and park the vehicle. The technique works today (as seen in the video), like it did years ago.

    • @ymmij1973

      I did this years ago doing about 120 mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike around king of Prussia.I flew past a state cop using radar. I saw his rear bumper black and yellow reflective tape.( I had a Valentine radar detector). And he did clock me as my detector went off. I never tapped the brake otherwise he would have known I saw him. Put the pedal to the floor and went up over a little hill and around a corner, then backed up into the grass... fucker flew by me about 30 seconds later. Lol great feeling.

    • @notsofast5495
      @notsofast5495 Год назад +76

      I used to hate it when I had to terminate a pursuit due to policy language. But, it probably kept me safe which is the main thing.
      On the other hand, I loooooovvvvvved finding the car later that night, within a few days or weeks or months and towing it. I would put an Investigative Hold on it which meant the owner couldn’t get it out until after speaking to an investigator. When they would deny driving the car they would be asked if they allowed someone else to drive it and they would either say no, they were in possession of the car the entire time at which time they would be charged with Felony Fleeing. If they said yes they let someone borrow it they would have to either give up the name or be charged with Allow Illegal Operation. Either way, the car was usually in Impound for weeks and sometimes the darndest thing would happen like other impounded vehicle owners damaging the car while in Impound.

    This happened in Chicago earlier this year. The fleeing car was busted when they looked at license plate readers from further back on the highway before the chase. Many of the turnpikes now are constantly reading plates. They arrested the guy at his house, car was under a tarp in the street.

    • @maxjohnson1758

      Yeah, they put up weird looking towers with cameras hanging off of them all around Indy too, including the major highways leading into Indy. No one knows what they are for and officials won't say.

    • @Michael-uc2pn
      @Michael-uc2pn Год назад

      Georgia has added actual speed cameras that will mail you a ticket in some school zones at this point, plus the license plate reader cameras that scan every plate and will send out an alert if there is a warrant in the system for the owner. Most intersections have monitoring cameras too, even in the suburbs. Cops barely have to pursue you anymore, just head back to station and pull the cameras for whatever intersection you blew through. Can't prove you were the driver? Not going to stop them from impounding your car as evidence.
      Edit: Plus I assume unless you don't have a cellphone it's fairly trivial to prove you were at least in the vehicle at the time, in which case you would know who the driver was or you look pretty guilty.

    • @richarcm
      @richarcm Год назад +2

      A good lawyer can get you out of that pretty easily. A speeding ticket has to be written to a specific driver. Not an owner. The cop has to prove who drove the car.

    • @Real_Tim_S
      @Real_Tim_S Год назад +1

      @@richarcm The cameras are often positioned to get the driver too. So if you don't have an identical twin or a doppleganger you can bring to court where you tell the judge "sometimes we mix up our cellphones" - a good DA and PD is going to look at the picture of the driver and ask the cops to pull cell phone logs (they have probable cause for a warrant for this with your plate and picture) to see which towers your phone pinged off of at the time of the picture. Then you're probably going to jail, paying a fine, and getting your car crushed. Probably still not worth it to pretend you're invincible behind the wheel for a few minutes...

      Sworn law enforcement officers are those who have taken an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, their state, and the laws of their agency's jurisdiction. Sworn officers also have the responsibility to ensure the safety and quality of life of the communities they serve.
      So what law was being enforced that was within their juresdiction? Were they enforcing Motor Vehicle Code?
      Let's see what congress defines for Motor Vehicle.
      18 USC 31 (a)(6)
      Motor vehicle.-
      The term “motor vehicle” means every description of carriage or other contrivance propelled or drawn by mechanical power and used for commercial purposes on the highways in the transportation of passengers, passengers and property, or property or cargo.
      Used for commercial purposes...
      So we look at the word Vehicle
      Definitions from Black's Law Dictionary: 2nd Edition and Ballentine's Law Dictionary as are available for each term in each dictionary. Definition: The word "vehicle" includes every description of carriage or other artificial contrivance used or capable of being used, as a means of transportation on land.
      No mention of a commercial activity, so wouldn't it be a violation of Motor Vehicle Code to put a commercial plate or even register a non-commercial vehicle as one involved in commerce?
      They had no juresdiction for the beginning, no law broken, no commerce going on, no authority.

    I really don't see the justification for the police endangering more and more people by running 140 plus mph instead of using the tools at their disposal that would lessen the endangering of the citizens, by using the radio, and the other units in the area to intercept those who are trying to flee. They also have stop strips, and other means they can apply to cite these people who are violating the speed limit, but who are normally within 25 mph of the posted limits.
    I believe that the cops love the thrill of speeding without any punishment for them whatsoever. This officer didn't even activate the siren until reaching a very high rate of speed.
    The point is that the police increase the dangers by chasing these cars, and the majority of people trying to elude them are only regular citizens, not murders and violent felons, and most I f them will sl I w d I wn once enough distance g as been achieved to get away.
    I'm not saying that breaking the speed limit is ok, I'm simply stating that there are other things that can be done in order not to endanger the public more than one person already speeding at rates that are potentially dangerous.

      @Real_Tim_S Год назад

      @Kim, I just want to reply that you're being awfuly judgemental about the cop. They are trained (especially highway officers) to safely operate their vehicles well over 100MPH and all conditions (training they have to renew annually), and to make a judgement call about when to terminate a pursuit when the risks outweight the rewards.
      In most states (AR included), speeding that much is a felony - and driving in that manner is akin to waving a loaded firearm around at the public in a crowded space. So yes, speeding over 110MPH is treated as if it's a violent felony, becasue doing so can result in killing other members of the public - and the police are tasked by their job with aprehending as you say "regular citizens" who make choices that hazard everyone else. That's the way we've as a society written the laws.
      You are whining that he didn't turn on his lights/siren "...until reaching a very high rate of speed..." This just shows that you fundamentally don't comprehend the phsyics of intercepting moving traffic, police proceedures, and/or have never served on a jury.
      Reasonably and objectively as a "regular citizen":
      We don't even get audio until 24 seconds into the video (and we only see the suspect car once it enters a narrow cone of visibility in front of the police car), time at which the officer was probably safely joining traffic, and radio-ing in his position, the officer's intent, and the basic suspect car information. At that time, he's trying to close the distance so that he can get the license plate if it's even there - which requires him to go faster than the car he's attempting to inspect, and potentially cite for speed. About ten seconds after we get audio while the cop is doing 90 to catch up to the Charger, another vehicle changes lanes masking the Charger from the cop's view as it eners a bend, and we can see in the video the Charger accelerating away. This attempt at evasion is an act that establishes the intent of the now fleeing driver (not just speeding anymore).
      The cop realized he's accelerating more than he needed to in order to just catch a constant speed suspect vehicle and by 46 seconds into the video (only 7 seconds after the suspect car was again visible). At this time he's turning on his lights, and getting a time slot in the radio to inform dispatch that a chase is starting. It's easy to lose track of time when you're excited, agitated, angry, adrenaline is pumping, etc. This cop chased with lights as siren for only about 1 minute 40 seconds after establishing that the driver intended to flee before terminating the pursuit. It was dry, and the road was essentially devoid of other cars. That is not an unreasonable risk to the public, and it displays restraint and good training from the officer.
      However, in order to do almost all of what you propose under this time scale - there need to be cops everywhere and/or cameras everywhere (with cops to view them). Not every jusidiction or agency has a $6Million helicopter, or one in the air, or one in the air even close to right over the start of a chase. By the time the officer in this video lost sight of the suspect vehicle's tail lights @1:26, only about 40 seconds had elapsed from the time his blue lights went on. At just 60 miles per hour you are moving 0.0166667 miles per second. In the approximately 40 seconds the suspect was visible and the pursuing officer could relay the known location of the suspect, any responding officer would have only been able to travel 2/3 of a mile at 60MPH. Yet, you proposed that they set up spike strips... which requires knowing where the suspect car is going, have enough time to get to where it will be, stop the car, get out the spikes, safely set them up without putting one's self or the rest of the public in danger, observe the approching suspect car - radio the pursuing office to back off so their tires don't get flattened - and then pull the spikes in front of the fleeing vehilce... This would mean for 180MPH (0.05miles per second, or about 2 miles travelled in the video's visible chase duration) - we'd need a cop ready to do spike strips about every mile, on every road. There are about 4 million miles of road in the USA - so we'd need at least 4 million cops on every shift (about three per day, roughly 4 per week for time off), of every day to do what you're asking for. That's about 16 million cops (about 5% of the population of the USA) just sitting there with their thumbs up their butts wating for a car chase to go by. That's one cop for every 20 citizens.
      When you actually take the time to think about the logistics of what you are proposing - it's magical utopian thinking, not based in reality. Putting a few trained cops behind the wheel of a sub-$50K squad car and sending them after the few people who are doing really bad stuff is already "the cheap+easy way" for doing enforcement. The alternatives are far more dystopian and expensive - and it's insanely delusional to think otherwise. For example we could just ban cars and stop building roads and there would neer be a high speed chase ever again - not a future I agree with, and it's exactly like what they are trying to do with guns right now. If you don't think your ideas lead to tyrannical dystopia, the Feds are already getting remote kill switches put in all cars unter the auspices of "anti-car-jacking," because of idiots like this - and the EPA is being used to take away performance cars from everyone except the governement.
      Bad ideas and utopian worldviews like yours have negative outcomes and impacts for all of us, even those of us law abiding good citizens who have the character to behave.

    If I go by an officer monitoring traffic I just slow down and get in the right lane. One major tactic they use is having 4-5 units downstream, and the lead unit will call ahead, won’t even bother pulling out and going after you.
    20 years ago it was a different story. The pedal went right to the floor and I’d take an exit at eye bleeding g force when they couldn’t possibly see me. Plus, with traffic cams, you can’t get away with anything.
