The intro to a regular season showdown in Madison Square Garden. The Pistons won 98-87. Announcers are Dick Stockton and Hubie Brown. I can't post the whole game.
Damn CBS used to be the king of sports. Best announcers, best graphic package, best storyline setup. Glad I had the chance as a young tyke to experience the magic. #80'sBaby
I got a chance to watch the ESPN 30 for 30 "Bad Boys" The documentary was great. I have even more respect for the Detroit Pistons. You forget how good they really were. They were either in Eastern Finals (87 and 91) or the NBA Finals (88-90) and winning back to back championships.
CBS and NBC did the NBA the best, at least the intros. I used to get excited watching this stuff, now I can’t remember the last time I watched an NBA game.
And in between his CBS days and ESPN he even returned to the sidelines for coaching, and was the coach of the year in 2004, 26 years after he first won the award in 1978. BTW, in 2004 he was coach of the year and his brother Larry was the NBA chanpion with Detroit
It was CBS's "dream season" that year, they were trying very hard to hype up their sports lineup as their all time best. It didn't go that way at all as the Super Bowl was the biggest blow out ever, NBA finals ended in 5, World Series just went 4, and their biggest bowl game was a blow out.
The 1990 NBA Finals were competitive and could have gone either way and don’t forget the NFC Championship and the NCAA basketball championships being blowouts.
@@ericradford2142 It was competitive until Portland went home to host games 3, 4, & 5. Then they forgot how to win another game in the series. Detroit hadn't won a game in Portland since 1974.
Ewing was fantastic in 1990...definitely deserved MVP consideration with his 28.5/11/4 blocks/2 assists on 55% shooting. Just didn't have the supporting cast.
This updated music for the "NBA on CBS" debuted in the prior season's NBA Finals (would soon end due to NBC snagging their rights). A common practice for CBS back then to debut a new theme at the end of that sport's seasons big game or series.
CBS Sports' schedule the weekend of 2/24 - 25 2/24 2PM College Basketball - Louisville vs. UNLV 4PM PGA Golf - Los Angeles Open Third Round 2/25 Noon NBA Basketball - Pistons at Knicks 2:30 College Basketball (Regional) - LSU at Georgia or Syracuse at Providence 4:30 PGA Golf - Los Angeles Open Final Round Heavy schedule that weekend I must say.
This revised vers of the nba cbs theme made me think of msg interestingly where I got the impression to ‘come watch the show at the world’s greatest arena!’
can't forget about brent musburger either...he was the man during the pre-game and halftime reports for both the nba and nfl....until cbs screwed him over a few weeks after this...he would go to abc and monday night football later that year....
Even though I was two and a half months away from turning one after this game, I'd rather watch this game rather than ANY NBA game nowadays. And the funny thing is, I haven't seen this game yet, or probably never will.
I'd love to see the full game but I completely understand! Big Pistons fan as well and miss the old days of basketball! If you have another way I could watch this game would you be so kind to message me? Thanks so much!
No problem. I'm just a huge Pistons fan and I really have no clue what the NBA is preserving these games for? Why not allow anyone to show them freely because the truth is they never show them on NBATV or ESPNClassic the way they should. Hey, no big deal just do everything legally. Thanks for responding.
Please show this entire game. There's no sense in just showing the intro without showing the entire game. I loved the NBA on CBS, Dick Stockton & Hubie Brown with Pat O'Brian and James Brown were the best; I'd take those guys any day beyond any NBA telecast.

Me too (born in 1981)!
I love this old CBS intros

Dick and Hubie - best combo ever in basketball commentary
Why was CBS Sports so good? Look at the first 10 seconds..
Who was the promo announcer at the beginning? That name still eludes me... (Hint: NOT Dick Stockton or Don Robertson!)
CBS and NBC did the NBA the best, at least the intros. I used to get excited watching this stuff, now I can’t remember the last time I watched an NBA game.
@@stantheman8609 Doug Jeffers i think
Hubie Brown is 85 years old and still calling games. He's on the 2nd team for ESPN/ABC telecast
And in between his CBS days and ESPN he even returned to the sidelines for coaching, and was the coach of the year in 2004, 26 years after he first won the award in 1978.

He is still calling games in 2021
@@tylongkicks8821 Actually D. Stockton called a career this past Spring. Marv Albert will retire after this year's NBA Playoffs.
Takes me back!! They need to bring the NBA back to Cbs
I don't remember the NBA on CBS, just a youngster then.Dick Stockton takes a lot of heat today, but he was a really good announcer back then.
aaron westrich I still think he's good today. He has perfect enunciation, his voice is awesome. He does better than those young upstarts.
@@bradjames891 no he doesn't.
Same. I really only remember NBA on NBC.
He’s retired now.
Yeah they need to bring CBS I right back to the NBA

@@ericradford2142 true. Until Portland thought they could do more trash talking than Detroit

Dick Stockton was my favorite play by play man in basketball.
Tru metalhead on Maui ey, No doubt about that!
Dick stockton is the man still is
What about Marv Albert?
@@ILoveOldTWC I love Marv Albert he funny I hope you will reply to this
Godbless chuck daley he was the best coach of Detroit pistons indeed Thomas and Dennis rodman miss Daley and all the ex players of pistons champions

Wow I attended this game great job posting this
Pistons knocked the Knicks off in the 2nd round of the the playoffs that year in 5 games on their way to back to back championships
The buildup to this regular season game was intense. Bring the NBA back to CBS
Nice to know.

That was way before LeBron James. Jesus H. Christ!
Taped the day after I was born.
Dick Stockton in his late 40’s in 1990.
His wife at the time was likely doing sideline reporting for this game, Lesley Visser

GOOD NEWS LISTEN UP THE NBA ON NBC RETURNS ON 2016-17 SEASON
the only thing better would be the NBA on CBS
MAYBE BRAD
+Armando Cervantes Or maybe Both CBS and NBC could share the NBA coverage.
CBS should do the western conference NBC should do the eastern conference
Wait till 2025. NBC Free of NHL rights to ABC, love for CBS Sports gets the NBA back to the fold.

The Intro set the tone!
how about no.
Also Tommy Heinsohn did a lot of CBS games.
3DStoneCt please is not needed he can't do that or CBS would hit him with a copyright strike
Yeah that entire cast was great, you just don't see good broadcasting anymore.
TNT?
