    the year I bought my z3 in '97, I actually met 2 designers of the team z3 from Germany outside a coffee shop , I came out, there they were looking at my car. 2 blond hair young men. one asked how I like/love my car and proceeded to tell me the who project in development of z3. They were unhappy with how my local BMW treated a few things with my car. they asked me to showed up at the dealership next day, there they were, donning white ropes with dealership management following them like interns, one asked " do you want a new soft top ? new seats color ?..." while the other busy pointing out his immense displeasure of some of the non-orig body work done !! what an experience.
    believe it, I just had the orig spark plugs changed out the first time since '97 MERELY 7 MONTHS AGO !! mechanics were shocked. I still drive my z3 daily.

    Loved the bit at the end, commenting on another Z3 driver who wouldn't wave back, and the three X3s in a row being people with no imagination whatsoever! Scouring some old videos as I've got a hankering for a new fun car, probably a bad idea in the current climate but life is very dull at the moment but one thing we can still enjoy is going for a drive.

    Hey, what a great video. Thank you for putting the effort in to make the video.
    I found this channel due to Lloyd vehicle consulting. Thank goodness he has good taste in channels. I look forward to more videos.
    Oh while I’m here, I remember for my birthday (my 12th birthday) my dads friend made a especially arrangement with my dad to pick up his brand spanking new 1996 1.9 in a mint green colour. The names just split my mind lol. I loved it thou my dad said it was a bit slow compared to his BMW he had at the time.
    Just before i moved to Russia, I was offered a clean 1997 2.8 in ascot green with tan seats for £1000. I was gutted about the timing because 6 years ago it was a bargain . :)
    Keep up the cool reviews!

    Nice review as always! I own a four cylinder and think its quite lively. The weight distribution is better than on the sixes and turning is supposedly more pointed with the lighter front end. One problem the fours DON'T have- differentials that basically get twisted out of the chassis from the torque over time..
    I think the 1.9 litre cars are definatly worth considering!

I am tall (1,89m) and I have been amazingly surprised to fit in. The Z3 isn't a sport car, it is meant to cruise down the roads. Conclusion, I want one for christmas.

    "... E30 trailing arms at the back....., makes it feel quite nimble , and alive on the road.... " .
    Unlike a few drivers of E30 's, I suspect. I bought a brand new E30 325I in 1986. That back end would snap on you, if you weren't careful. Wasn't fit for the abilities of the rest of the car. Almost criminal of BMW, in my opinion. They well knew the waywardness of the back end of the 3 series previous E21 generation, and very much had the opportunity to tame it for the E30. They didn't.
    The Z3, lovely sounding engine, as always with BMW straight 6's. But the style, not for me, then or now.

    Early 1.9 was ok 4 pot later 1.9 was strangled. Best engine the 2.2 which was sweet. ASC is Anti skid you had to pay for ASC+T for traction. Can't remember if Sony Radio was Factory as the BMW Business Head units I think came later. Certainly my 96 E36 328 was optioned with a Sony unit.

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  5 лет назад +1

      Im 99% sure the Sony is aftermarket, they tended to go for Blaupunkt or Clarion if not an actual BMW head unit. Yes, Anti Skid! Driving and remembering acronyms do not go hand in hand!

    • @alanbellwood3902
      @alanbellwood3902 5 лет назад

      @@furiousdriving maybe they did by that point. My 89 735il came with a Blaupunkt but I remember my Dad choosing from a range of aftermarkets in the BMW showroom for his 320 Touring in 95 and choosing a Sony same with the 328 I had later. BMW acronyms are never easy to remember without the complication of driving.
      My Dad later had the M-Coupe in Estoril Blue which was an after hours project by employees. Wonderful car and both him and me regretted selling it although out of warranty they were crazy expensive for repairs and ate Vanos units.

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  5 лет назад +1

      That was an issue back then, as soon as the warranty ran out you were waiting for the multi thousand £ repair bill. Mind you the diesels have been pretty dodgy more recently, I had a 520d which lost its entire engine quite spectacularly and would have cost over £10k to fix (main dealer prices) if BMW hadn't relented and done it under warranty

    • @furiousdriving
      @furiousdriving  5 лет назад

      Ive read it about both the original and the Coupe, I think there's a touch of wishful nostalgia about the whole thing as the team were pulled from their regular tasks to do it and there is precedent as the E30 Touring actually was developed by a BMW engineer at home as they didn't make one
