  • Driving an immaculate 1.9 Z3 in the Peak District, roof down, engine fizzing away, controls fresh and precise... I was surprised how much I didn't miss the six-cylinder.

    Test drove a 1.9 z3 today that I'm planning to buy. The sound startled me, it's lovely and throaty for a 4 cylinder

    I m an orig owner of a 97' manual z3, still driving it. believe or not , I just changed out the original spark plugs just 7 months ago, people in the shop showed me the orig plugs !! I drove my car top down in -25 c cold, with a wind breaker at the back and windows up of course, the jet stream doom allowed no cold air in...and the same in the rain as long as the speed was kept at 50 km/hr, not a drop of rain came inside. still madly in love with it. And quite likely my last car as I will be 70 in 18 months

    I have a 97 Z3 with the 1.9. Still only 37 K miles! Such a fun weekend car on a twisty back road!

    The secret is out. Lots of fun to be had on a B-road in a Hell Red Z3 on a summer's day. Classic lines, light weight, plus BMW refinement make a great combination. I've had mine since 2007 and done some cracking road trips. Followed the route of the Allies from Normandy to Berlin. Went down to the Pyrenees for an event and then across into Spain. Loved every minute of Z3 driving.

    Love my 96 1.9 4 cylinder Z3. I installed BC coil overs and it completely transformed the car. It was fun before but now it’s absolutely incredible. Best thousand dollars I’ve ever spent. Great review. Many reviews just completely discount the 1.9.

      Standard suspension is a bit soft but the fundamentals are there... bet BCs really do help!

    An affordable automotive masterpiece in my opinion. I ownq the 1.9 8 valve which has good low down torque and a suprisingly nice exhaust note. Even the four cylinders have that final drive whine and notchy gear box that are so typical for old BMWs. Absolutly love it! Low miles, I'm never going to sell it.

    I mostly agree with the comments the presenter makes - we own a 1.9 Z3 and it fizzes along, you don't need huge power to enjoy a small roadster! Oh, and a set of Eibach springs makes the world of difference without spending a fortune...

      @EGMedia1  3 года назад

      Eibach springs really would help when driving harder. With some nice dampers you could probably keep most of the ride too.

    I had an Arctic Silver S reg back in the early naughties. Wonderful little joy machine. Got an 1.5 MX-5 now, these roadsters are how all cars should be.You don't need massive power to enjoy road trips.

    People often criticise semi trailing arms yet one of BMW's greatest had them, along with a 4 cylinder twin cam. The E30 M3.

      MX5 1.8 has alot more interesting ride and feels quicker. I've owned both the Mazda and the BMW. The BMW wins in build quality but the Mazda is your best bet for driving experience.
