Saab 9000 Turbo //Road Test

The curious case of an executive car made by Saab. In the 9000 T16 there's leather seats, a turbocharged engine, and a whole lot more. We take to the B-roads to find out what it's like. Thanks to specialists Two Stroke to Turbo for lending us this fine example of an early Saab 9000 T16. bought my VVC brand new with EVERY option then available (R-Reg) .. cost me a fortune (£1000+ for air con?!) Full cream leather and everything else. I took it to the south of France in 2001 for my honeymoon .. what a fabulous adventure. I have kept it since, and sadly it has stayed in a garage for the past 8 years on flat tyres. never going to sell it though .. so I need a specialist to come get it, get it fixed and back on the road. Anyone who knows a specialist, get them to PM me. Maybe it's time.

It uses rubberized plastic on top of the dash which is excellent. You might want to lower the steering wheel position. Tires work best at 35psi. Lower control arm bushings need to be checked twice a year. Mine has 264,000 miles. It doesn't leak anything. I have owned it for twenty years and only the driver's seat and the headlight lenses show wear. Mine is an estate. 528iT.

Had mine for 8 years, bought for £800 love it! It's a joy to drive on Northumbrian B roads and comfortable enough to have been all round Europe in it. As in reasonable condition but 24 years old now I have decided to keep it permanently and just spent £xxxxxx.00 restoring it. Now completely rebuilt engine with small mods, gearbox etc, new subframes.( bought some years ago when still available), suspension brakes etc and complete repaint. Only interior to smarten up. Yes the K series is prone to head gasket problems and a few difficult to resolve engine management issues. Thermostat removed from block and replaced with remote thermostat next to front radiator has solved any temperature / head problems for the for last 6 years. Will I get money back no... well not for another ten years or so if ever ...... But at 6" 2" with bad back it's the only small open top sports car I comfortably fit in and at 68 still provokes me to drive like i did as a teenager !!

I think the MGF is a better car in every way than the TF. First, there seem to be rust problems with the TF, more so than the MGF. The suspension on the MGF, when working properly, is much better than any other car of it's type. The styling is the original perfect design - unlike the Jaguar S Type, which had a flawed initial design, this one cannot be improved by a facelift. Some seem to like the MX5 - the styling of that thing is "scoolboyish". The MGF is a fine Lady, not an unrully oaf or an inexperienced boy. Every MGF owner and driver is proud to be at the wheel of the finest MG Sports Car ever made. Thanks for your honest review. Nuff said.

I had a 2001 E39 fifteen years ago. Loved it, but I grew frustrated keeping up with the often costly repairs. So I traded it for something newer. I followed that up with two M-3s, a 911, three Z4's, two Boxsters and a Audi A8L. Then I came to the realization that the best overall driving car I ever owned was the E39. After much searching, I found and purchased a 2000 E39, the same color as my original. This one has just 67K miles and is absolutely beautiful. As with the first (and I add that both are 528I's), the car drives wonderfully and I am always hesitant to point it towards home. This is my last car and I will never again concern myself with the occasional costly repair; its a small price to pay for (near) automotive perfection. Cheers

I had an 1989 9000 turbo, it did 260k km, replaced the turbo with a rebuilt garret , new spark plug unit (forgot the actual term for it). And the stupid heater coil. My one was automatic,l purchased with 75k km, when l started looking at the logbooks l discovered it was on its third transmission. The first one from new had been replaced with a rebuilt Saab unit under warranty, at 70k km the third unit was installed, it was a brand new zoom, there must have been some fireworks between the first owner and Saab to achieve this. The new transmission was perfect all the way to the end. This was a fast car. Interesting in 1990s Sydney there was a criminal gang called the 5T, when they built the underwater Sydney tunnel it took them 6 months or so to install speed cameras, we used to race through the tunnel late at night to join the 5T club, “two ton through the tunnel “.

The E39 was the first nice car I ever owned actually. I bought mine in 2006 but it was the late 2003 edition with the M sport configuration. I drove it home from the dealer all the way from Melbourne to Sydney. Just love that car. Miss it. Mine didn't have any wood appointments though. It had a black and silver trim. Would love to get it back but alas it is probably too late now. The E39 is getting quite old. We have a new Audi A4 (2023) with the sports features but it just isn't the same. Nice but I still prefer the E39 personally. Probably my all time favourite. I had an e34 before that (1989) because it was all I could afford and I loved that thing too. Also an amazing car. I was at the start of my career and had to drive across Sydney about an hour each day. I did that with the e34 for something like 5 or 6 years.
