RPCS3 - First Emulator to Implement FSR Upscaling Technology!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2024
- RPCS3 is the first emulator to support AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology thanks to our lead graphics developer kd-11 implementing it on the 6th of August. FSR is incredibly useful for RPCS3 in a number of ways.
FSR allows users to have better visuals at a similar level of performance, which is incredible for users with low-end graphics cards that struggled with using Internal Resolution Scaling. The few games which don't work with Internal Resolution Scaling can also utilize FSR without any issues, which is a huge improvement over playing at a native 720p resolution.
Even users with high-end graphics cards will see a lot of usage out of this as games which have a high RSX (PS3 GPU) load can lower frame-rates when scaling up to 4k. With FSR, you can use an internal Resolution Scaling value of 1440p, and then upscale to 4K with FSR. Visuals still look amazing, and frame rates will be higher.

This is a revolutionary step in PC Gaming and Console Emulation ,You guys have done one hell of a job! Absolutely Brilliant...
Mate xenia check it out the game mostly runs so good there
@@horrorflixurdu9138 I assume you responded to the wrong comment? And also assume you're talking about Red Dead?
@@DatHombre yeah
@@DatHombre bro xenia is ahead of rpcs3 to be homest in terms of progress

God bless to all team members of rpcs3, all the best for your future miracles
Credit also has to go to AMD for open sourcing their FSR tech, making it free for anybody to use, on all PC GPUs. DLSS on the other hand is still locked to only 20% of PC GPUs...
And amd because nvidia is seeeeelfish
@@kev1nno thing is we already know DLSS works without tensor cores. Control added DLSS "1.9" support on the CUDA cores and it looked pretty good. With some optimisation it may have looked close to DLSS 2.0.
IMO DLSS only exists because it's yet another Nvidia attempt to segment the market, lock out competitors and jack up pricing. They used DLSS and hybrid ray tracing to justify the ridiculously high prices on the RTX 20 series, after all.
@@nomchompsky3012 Yeah but the technology is so much better and a selling features for their new cards. AMD is definetly more customer friendly though but DLSS brings in sales.
Amazing work as usual! One of the best emulation projects so far!

awesome. this emulator just keeps getting better and better. kd-11 is a legend. also, thanks to amd for amd fidelity fx super resolution. i use it in assetto corsa for vr and couldnt play without it.
@Never Truly Gone choose the latest version of csp/ custom shaders patch (0.1.75 beta), then to enable, in content manager its under the custom shader patch settings at the top under 'graphics adjustments'. also i can confirm it works and makes a pretty big difference to performance. i am using 'ultra quality'. also, make sure to use 4xmsaa and taa, especially important for vr. i have a 2070 super though so im surprised a 3090 needs it. especially with the original vive... i have other less important settings turned down. i cant be bothered going through and listing them all though. but im using a 1440x1440 per eye headset which is much higher than the original vive.... so you should not be getting bad performance... weird. i am also running 200% steam vr supersampling. i think medum settings under assetto corsa. and anisotropic filtering forced with nvidia control panel and off in assetto corsa settings.
edit: did not read your comment properly (its late friday.. ive been drinking..) i see you say you dont have performance issues, in which case amd fsr will not benefit you. it is just an upscaling technique to render at a lower resolution and then upscale it. which inherently means lower quality. they use nice algorithms and sharpening to minimize that loss in quality. but it is still there.
dude, if you have a 3090 its time to upgrade headset ;) although then you lsoe the oled colours and contrast/ black levels i suppose.. but any lcd/ rgb subpixel display will get you less screen door effect. or if you want to stick with oled i think the samsung odyssey uses it and is still higher resolution than the og vive.
Looks shit dlss is way to go
@Never Truly Gone yeah, I completely understand, damn gpu prices... Same reason I'm still on my rtx 2070 super and wmr.. Planned to upgrade both but not at these prices. 😅
Thanks to the RPCS3 team,
and to AMD for not trying to ensure
they're the only ones who can benefit from amazing new tech.
Wait, do you mean this works on Nvidia cards too?
@@connor___ Yes, it's an open standard
@@naryanr I'm so used to Nvidia being dickheads about that kind of thing, I thought I was misunderstanding lol That's awesome!
Dlss is much better though
can't for this to get xess
Love how geometrical details and textures look more sharper and detailed. This really will come handy for lot of low resolution games. Outstanding work as always!
@@kev1nno FSR is no AA. AMD specifically mentions that FSR needs a well anti-aliased input image or else FSR will further amplify the instabilities like shimmering that are present in a non-AA image. TAA till now is the best AA that compliments FSR really well. Also FSR reconstructs edges during upscaling and the RCAS pass controls the local contrast of the image making the textures and other details look sharper.
@@kev1nno 1:32 It doesn't do anything to the aliasing. Check the stones on the ground texture and Coles boots. Left side no FSR the texture details look more blurry, while on the right side with FSR on, the small details appear to be sharpened up, which helps the overall image quality.
@@kev1nno upscaling is not same as anti-aliasing. FSR is not a AA technique, its a spatial based upscaling technique. AMD specifically mentions that in their FSR source code. If you don't you a seperate AA technique with FSR, FSR will amplify the aliasing in the picture.
@@kev1nno no. Anti aliasing is applied on the same resolution without upscaling. AA smoothes out lines (usually the outlines of models). That's literally all it does.
FSR on the other hand tries to find where there would be details in the image, and then tries to reconstruct them. If there is no anti aliasing applied to an image before putting it into FRS it will see the edges of objects and because of its high contrast and noisiness will think it is an area where details got lost, and try to add more detail to it (not smoothing them out), usually leading to pretty bad results.
honestly i'm not sure what any of you are seeing but i aint seeing it xD
If Sony will not emulate PS3 on the PS5 you will be our only hope. Amazing job. The gaming community is a richer place with this emulator.
Eh?
You can get a PS3 for less than a $100.
@@John-vu5qm Low fps, low resolution, takes space etc.
Amazing! You people did a wonderful job making the best emulator even beter
I've been keeping my eye on your emulator holding off on it for awhile, every time I look it just gets better and better! nice work guys!
I''ve played the first three Uncharted games a few months ago thanks to your invaluable work. Keep it up!
I can't still comprehend how amazing this team. Keep up the good work.
I can't even imagine how much time and effort you guys have put into making this work. You guys are really something. RPCS3 has made history! Much respect and love for the Dev's!
You guys are so talent . Thanks for ur all hard working ❤️
all I need in my life is to see "PLAYABLE" next to mgs 4 in the compatibility list
Yeah that and an a 60 FPS red dead would be a dream , but hey every update it’s a step towards the inevitable MGS 4 update
MGS4 of all games? All you need from that game is to be "watchable" and youtube has you covered on that.
Indeed.

@neogeomaster someone is a hater... its a portable handheld buddy, with relativly decent battery life for a pc, no other pc can do that.
I think it really feels good to play ps3 games anywhere.
Hows the performance on it?

Tremendo trabajo que se están mandando en implementar esta tecnología al RPCS3!
The Silent Hill 2 theme at the end was a nice touch hehe
this is cool!! I love seeing the active development on this emulator
Great work guys, this is huge. Congrats!
i honestly could not tell a difference visually. but this is the kinda thing i usually cant tell the difference with. with everything else FSR can do and the amazing implementation with very low resource load, its just amazing for anyone who needs it and im glad this was done!!
Awesome and INSPIRING work. FSR really looks great. Thank you!

Awesome this is looking good. I'm looking forward to what 3D support this could bring in the future. 720p 3d games didn't look too good on a 1080p 3d tv I found.

Nice job guys !
Congratulations RPCS3 Team.
It's the first time I hear of Eternal Sonata, but wow
That soundtrack + visuals makes it absolutely gorgeous
One of the best games in the PS3/Xbox 360 era. Magnificent. Play it ASAP
Nicely done.
wow ! you did it again, guys ! WELL DONE !! 😃
Thanks man for this toooooo 😊😊
It helps the most with games that rely on being set to 720p for certain effects to display correctly, such as GTA IV's depth-of-field. It's particularly obvious when looking at sunlight glittering on water.
Is that a thing on the pc version?
@@boffifis1 you need to have definition turned off in the video settings, 4k dsr helped with the blurring issue.
Can i use FSR with resolution scaling ?
amazing work
I really hope Starhawk & Blur will be fully playable soon
Don't bother with blur, theres a free PC port you can play for free now that will run at 60 fps. There's a tutorial on RUclips for how to install it. Running blur through Rpcs3 is a waste of time trust me
Fantastic work as always guys! I hope later on, if you guys could add a cheat feature for the game currently running, having their own cheat database, cheers!
Hi guys. I really love emulation and you made a great job in implementing this feature. AMD gave us a good tech and you gave us a very useful tool. You work hard to make every game payable in good conditions and everybody knows how hard it is to emulate the PS3. Keep up the good work and thank you so much !

Fantastic, a while ago, talking about a PS3 emulator was a myth, but today it is a reality and it is becoming very efficient with new technologies.
Awesome!
Nice work, kd-11
kd-11 at it again, legendary.
Awesome stuff, though starting out with RD redemption just made me think of the Xbox native 4k version.
This is important for the PS3 exclusive stuff such as MGS4.
This + MGS4 = beauty
thanks i was really hoping this would be added specially for intel gpu's as I would love to be able to play ps3 on the go on a tablet
the rpcs3 team are wizards no cap
Thanks RPCS3 Team and thanks AMD
Once I'm done with ps2 and PSP emulator, I'm gonna try this out :)
Yea baby
You guys should add the option to add in a pass of FXAA/SMAA before the upscale for those games that have no AA, since the FSR algorithm requires antialiasing to upscale correctly.
true, although fxaa wont do much, since it doesnt mess with temporal stability, i think that msaa would be the best call tbh (dont know if rpcs3 has it). idealy we would have taa, but thats pretty much impossible on an emulator wide setting.
@@mathdantastav2496 MSAA would be quite bad since most games use deferred rendering, MSAA would tank performance & do very little to reduce aliasing (even less than FXAA).
@@MLWJ1993 smaa is kind of a mix of fxaa and msaa, so that wouldnt work aswell, if fxaa is the best we can do, then fsr will never look really good, since itll always have a lot of flickering. in my experience, fsr is great at getting rid of aliasis, just not of flickering, wich is kinda like fxaa, wich also does not fix flickering
@@mathdantastav2496 SMAA is actually very similar to FXAA & less/just as effective as FXAA is. Flickering is only really fixed with temporal AA solutions, which only function properly if integrated into the game engine. Something you'll unlikely find on PS3 games (you can even use it to reconstruct parts of the image to effectively upscale to output resolution which would be handy to get the ~720p internal resolution to 1080p without bad scaling from the display) 😕
@@MLWJ1993 most cases of smaa include multiple samples or some temporal solution, like SMAA S2x, wich has MSAA in it, and SMAA T2x wich has temporal aa in it, wich as you said yourself would booth be impossible, leaving us with raw smaa or fxaa, wich booth kinda suck lol, so the only real solution would be ssaa, but at that point why are you even using fsr? lol, just increase the resolution. Dont know how usefull FSR will be in this emulator, from the footage in this video, it looks pretty bad. it looks slightly better than billinear upscaling, but still doesnt look good.
Amazing.
It is excellent!
I got exited with those frames in inFamous.
Love yall
PS3 Emulation? Awesome Job!
My friend just sold me his 1080 I am about to use for an emulation build so this is going to be sick.
My. God. This will be Dolphin level some day.
Niiiceee. But the GPU emulation of RPCS3 is already pretty damn good, so I'd say Xenia (the Xbox 360 emulator) needs this more
Hurray!
sigh... A great relief !!
