It's not just "lack of profit incentives". Some apps involve the use of significant cloud resources. E.g. AI-based apps that use could-based models unsuitable for local execution on a mobile device, streaming apps where high traffic volumes have to be covered by the host, cloud storage apps, etc.. These mean nothing for many users, but are essential for most. They could run as a subscription, but the Open Source community are not generally fond of paying for subscriptions either. You could ask someone to be altruistic and not charge for their work, but asking them to subsidize your cost without any profit in sight is a bit too much.

@Edmond Schwab it's a bit more complicated. Linux isn't technically in any way derived from UNIX (as in the original UNIX operating system), it just uses similar interfaces and as compatible to the POSIX standard. Most people would call it unix-oid or *NIX/UN*X. macOS is similarly not really derived from it, though as I understand it shares a considerably closer relationship to UNIX (and it's not really related to Linux at all beyond that common inspiration).
With lifetime updates and upgradable hardware, the current Librem 5 sold by Purism has significantly improved performance that will only continue improving with more development.

@@Gridlocked Duh! It was suggested that we cannot live without Social Media! I said we can. It really isn't terribly difficult to understand unless ...
Been about 6 years I think for me. What I'm working on now is quiting youtube comments. Reading and responding but if I don't read I won't respond. It's nothing but a prideful self-righteous beastly thing.......any video any topic .....you got beasts fighting and murdering each other...... How about this one? No different. Someone said....... when asked? They did because they are exactly what I said above. Truth? It's deleted by the RUclips. Comments and accounts. They wiped out one of my accounts and I didn't mention a single person's thing.....name number .... Nothing. They just didn't like what my comment said. Didn't even mention google or youtube in it. They lie and say your a threat and made attacks or broke their rules. Here is a literal quote for anyone who had their account taken down ......they have the right to delete ANY comment or Chanel FOR ANY REASON.. Literally what is says. ANY reason and it no reason at all......So yes.......if it's something they don't like ......they can wipe it out because they don't like it. Social media was easy....... I will get to the point where I don't read comments at all anymore. Nothing but a negative experience anyways. Every single damn video in existence you got the same prideful garbage and wars going in. Incredibly sickening. The brain dead spineless people deserve to wear masks for the test of their lives.......ready to go along to get a long in an instant........flee from any kind of persecution.......the people have ZERO power and they NEVER had any power to start with Gonna get worse and worse from here but even debatable. More people talking to robots isn't gonna help the matter. Greed never stops. Privacy being raped.......it won't end......can't end.....never has ended. It will go on until the nations are utterly destroyed just like it's always been and why EVERY nation that ever existed.......ceised to exist because they were evil and deserved whatever came.
The nail in the coffin for me was when I saw people I knew...... Trash people really close to them openly. and if anything is mentioned about people it right away becomes personal instead of trying to improve. But overall I think comments on RUclips is worse than social media. Not to get into comments and stuff as much is definitely going to take practice. It's sad that that's what I'm seeing as the solution...... Just slowly removing yourself completely. notice no matter what the video or subject is it always becomes a personal attack instead of giving your thoughts on what the subject is. Things like you didn't graduate high school because you have a different opinion than me. and if you stick around with it you actually start doing what you hate and becoming that. I'm not afraid to admit that that's what happened to me. You start doing what you yourself hate because you're involved in in the middle of it. I don't believe there's anyone that strong enough to overcome that. You just literally have to remove yourself. Like if you were with people that were hard into to drugs or whatever it is just a matter of time before you become that. Oh well........ Maybe that's why humanity has been given so much time....... To prove that they just can't do what's right consistently. And people even know this but they still can't change. The snake eating its tail the circle of death...... Symbols are everywhere and yet people still don't change. Eating yourself to stay alive just doesn't work. As soon as anything is exposed it's always a point the finger and blame someone else game and personal attacks. I should be able to write this down and give what I see but really you can't. If you give true words it attacks who and what people are instead of learning from it.....it literally becomes a childish personal game. Eve blamed the serpent and Adam blamed Eve. Men have their weakness and women have their own weakness. Both parties are guilty.

The issue was that Nokia was pretty much lost at that time! They had some Symbian S60v5 running on touch devices, Symbian 3, Maemo, Meego and Windows Phone right after. Don't quote me on the order of release of those OS's.

This is a good idea if you don't make phone calls. For example, here in Korea, VoLTE is different from the international standard, so if it is not supported in the firmware, it requires a 3G signal for calls, which can result in missing important calls
The RUclips app never even crossed my mind as an issue. I only ever use RUclips in a browser (Brave - no ads). Same with all social media. The entire point of a browser is that you don't need separate app for everything.
It's not late. Are you high. THis is all progress. Some people want exactly this and less. Just like how I ordered my Porsche with only a manual . It's exactly what I wanted.
Disagree. The trend is coming back. There are more and more people switching from smartphones to dumbphones for the privacy reasons that there may be a market. And there always is a market for secure phones. But, true, it's not a big one. There was a reason why Blackberry dropped their BBOS and now work with Android, and it's users. But then again - as long as I could use Google Apps on my BB Passport, I didn't switch. Passport was the best phone I had, with features Android doesn't have even today and I miss them sorely. One last thing for me to try is GrapheneOS... Just need to fix my old phone to test it...
I think if they were to change their target demographic to businesses to give to their employees as work-specific phones, this could work. This means that businesses don't need to worry about data being shared and could technically customize it how they want within the company since it is open sourced.
It probably wasn't the best of times for them to send out a review unit. The software is still a huge work in progress. The camera doesn't work... there's no good GPS app... The battery warnings say "laptop"... The software doesn't use GPU or Video Acceleration... And the drivers are still heavily in development. In my opinion the Pinephone from Pine64 is in much better shape (plus it only costs $150 or 200 depending on the model you get).

The brain dead spineless people deserve to wear masks for the test of their lives.......ready to go along to get a long in an instant........flee from any kind of persecution.......the people have ZERO power and they NEVER had any power to start with
Gonna get worse and worse from here but even debatable.
I deleted them about a year ago and haven’t missed them.
