If your Poscas ever dry up, know that you can refill them as well. It's not documented, but You Tube is a wealth in terms of finding out how to do it. I love how you just buy what you use. It's inspiring that you make so much art on limited supplies.
Thank you so much, and for sharing that tip too! I love how much information there is on RUclips - it's definitely my go to when I want more info on art supplies! Thank you for watching 😊
For wetter mixed media, I find that here in the UK the best, cheapest workhorse sketchbooks (a Strathmore equivalent for non US peeps, maybe?) are Seawhite of Brighton mixed media. Sometimes I can barely believe how cheap they are considering how nice the paper feels and that they are even lightly sized! Been using them for mixed media/general ugly sketching and semi-diary notes/scribblings ever since I was first handed one during my Art Foundation. I use the Royal Talens ones as my travel sketchbooks as they are much lighter (the paper in the SoB is pretty thick in comparison). I also have other sketchbooks specifically for watercolour & marker stuff.
Oh yes, I used to use Seawhite of Brighton sketchbooks in university! Such a great recommendation, they're such an affordable option. When my Strathmore is finished I'll look into finding a similar size from there, thank you! I think it definitely makes sense to have different sketchbooks depending on travel and the supplies we use in them 😄
i love what you said. not pushing consumerism, but also providing info in case one wants to buy them. ppl forget they have free will. if you don't have the funds do not buy another person's recommendations. but ppl shouldn't remain silent out of fear of misunderstandings and insinuations. like "yo, here's what i like and use. and yes, they're good. no, don't get them if you don't need them or do not have the funds to do so"
Yes, 100%!! That's exactly it, I love sharing what I use but it's not a 'you must buy this' situation! I think so much art can come from the supplies we have and we don't need to buy things we won't use or can't afford! Thank you for watching 😊
@@KatieMoody i went to Daiso yesterday (humblebrag of living in the City) and got most of my supplies from the kitchen area. i use a lot of glue and acrylic bases mediums and need dishes/containers/utensils/surfaces that are silicone based or have easy removable capabilities. the kitchen isle has everything you need: dishes as pallets, silicone cupcake pans as glue/paint/medium cups (let the media dry and dump it out. no washing), air fryer wax paper (as cleanup sheets and glue repellant), silicone stencils and storage containers, sponges (for making wet pallets for glue/paint/media), all sorts of mark making tools, magic eraser sponges, butcher paper/aluminum/cling wrap, baking sheet for making your own gelli plates, sauce bottles for liquid storage, mason hars, stick and peels. just kitchen containers themselves make going to the kitchen isle worth it. i haven't bought anything from an art store other than consumables. if i can substitute a given item w a household one, it always ends up cheaper and much more durable, w a lot more variety.
Always a pleasure to follow your work Katie all the year and your YT videos are a like a treat on Sundays 😊 and help me to start a new week motivated too ❤ thank you & Happy New Year!
I love your use of mixed media! I’m new to watercolor and am looking forward to mixing in some markers, pencil, acrylics to my practice! Love your work!!
Hey Katie it feels like ages since I’ve commented on your videos but I’m just catching up now & wanted to say it makes me so happy to see how your approach has developed, how more experimental you seem & adventurous with your materials & ways you use them. It’s so lovely to see! I’m picking my art back up after a while away & have just ordered some Posca’s as I’ve got two I like already & want to play more with them. Such a great video & also loved your sketchbook tour too! Happy new year to you & keep growing with your work as it is very inspiring🥳
Hey Han! So lovely to hear from you, I hope you're doing ok! Thank you so much for your lovely words, it's so wonderful to read them. I think we always struggle to see our own progression as artists so it's great to hear you can see them from an outside perspective! I definitely feel like I experiment more now but I love the term adventurous 🥰 Hope you enjoy getting back into your sketchbook and enjoy the Poscas as much as I do! Wishing you all the best for 2024 💜
@@KatieMoody thank you! I am doing ok, I feel better than I have been so I’m seeing that as a positive! I hope you are too ☺️ I absolutely can see a difference, in all honesty I haven’t been able to keep up with the art accounts I follow for perhaps half a year? and I can see such a difference not only in your materials and creations but how you speak about it too, it’s refreshing to see! I also thought you might like adventurous too aha, it seemed fitting considering your subjects tend to be nature! (However congrats on the people as I know they haven’t always been in your comfort zone 👏🏻 ). Thank you very much, I’m looking forward to getting stuck into it again! 🥰
I've never heard of the Montana Acrylic Markers. Mixing your own colours sounds very appealing! I've recently rediscovered my Inktense pencils as well. They are quite fun! Thanks for the lovely video.
I appreciate seeing your mixed media approach to your work. I love the Strathmore sketchbooks, both the mixed media and the watercolor with their soft covers.
Thank you so much for sharing all your favs! I really appreciate that you went into detail about every item, especially the fact that the one sketchbook cannot handle wet media and the other one that can. I've been looking for a wet/dry media sketchbook and I think I'll give the Strathmore Mixed Media one a go. Thanks again! 🙏☺️
If you love the sky blue color in the neocolors, you might really like the ultramarine shade (120) in the Albrecht Durer watercolor marker. It’s slightly darker than the sky blue but has that really pretty lavender blue tone.
Happy new year Katie, got a full set of Neo colors 2 and Copic Ciao set B 72 for xmas and loads of reference books too. Still learning form….. slowly as I am teaching my self hahahah I am not an Artist . As I love Needle felting and using my Cricut ….Lovely video looking forward to All your adventures this year
Happy New Year! Oh that sounds amazing, what great Christmas gifts!! Practice and experimenting is all we need and we learn as we go 😄 Wishing you a wonderful and creative 2024!
Thank you for the great content in 2023 (and before!), Katie. I like drawing black and white, graphite, charcoal. But watching your videos is a great way to push myself out of my comfort zone and try different medium. Always curious when I see your art and have to wonder what you used, which colours are those, the paper, etc. Happy new year and looking forward to more inspiring content in 24!
Thank you so much Bruno, I really appreciate that! 😊 I love how we all have different preferences - drawing with charcoal is something I've not done for years and I rarely draw in black and white! Maybe I'll challenge myself at some point to try it 😄 Wishing you a great 2024 and thank you so much for your lovely comment!
I loooove the Luminance Ultramarine. It just POPS so intensely. Also I adore the Neocolors for sketchbook drawing. Prob my favourite media for sketchbook use, but I just use the Neo I, with Neo II as a light underlayer.
Happy new year Katie 🎉 I found your channel earlier this year and I’m so glad I did. Your work has been so inspiring to me and I love the way you use your supplies together. Thank you for making so many inspiring videos, your channel has really made an impact on my creative journey this year and I have never been creating more than I do right now 😄💖
Happy New Year and thank you so much for all your support and lovely comments in 2023! I really appreciate your lovely words 🥰 It's a privilege to be part of your creative journey - here's to more creating in 2024! 💜
@KatieMoody I found your channel when I was looking for a video on how to use pan pastels, and I have watched almost all your videos since. I love the way you inspire me to have fun with my art supplies and actually use them 😄 2024 is definitely going to be a year full of creating and having fun with art 🎨🥰
Thank you so much! I used quite a few to mix up my shades, not sure on the ratios! 😆 The refill colours I used were Shock red, White, Shock Green, Shock Blue, Shock Yellow Light, Shock Yellow and Shock Lilac!
Happy New Year Katie!! I am so glad I found your channel! You have become my favourite mixed media artist this year!! Thank you for your hard work❤❤ I have a question about neo colour or other pastels and I would appreciate if you could help me. Do you seal your work in your sketchbook after finishing? If so, what do you use to seal it? Thanks so much!!! Keep up the great work!!!
Happy New Year to you too! Thank you so much, what an honour 🥰 I don't seal my sketchbook work, no! I tested out a few fixatives last year but I just found the smell too strong when I was working in my sketchbook so often. Sometimes the neocolors do smudge and transfer, so I just put scraps of paper in between my pages as I work. It doesn’t combat the issue entirely but I also accept that I can’t keep my sketchbook spreads super clean and neat with the mediums I use!

Thank you so much! Thanks for watching and commenting, wishing you a wonderful year too 🥰
Great round up, thanks Katie. I have been deliberating about the Kuretake watercolour set and you have just made up my mind!
Thanks so much, Louisa! So glad it was helpful 🥰
I really enjoy “favorites”- it’s helpful to see what artists I enjoy use in their process. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Anthraquinoid pink is my favorite colored pencil ever! It’s the perfect shade of pink for me. If they ever stop making it I’ll cry!
Hahaha it's such a beautiful pink so I get it!! 😄 Fingers crossed that never happens!

Thank you so much, Cheryl! 🥰 Hope you have fun playing with your mixed media!
i have only 14 Luminance pencils, and I guard them with my life lol
Hahaha they are truly precious!
Especially at 3 quid a pencil lol😝
Thanks!❤

So funny, the Kuretkae set was on my favorites list too for this year Katie!
We have excellent taste!! 😄 I just fell in love with those colours!
I appreciate seeing your mixed media approach to your work. I love the Strathmore sketchbooks, both the mixed media and the watercolor with their soft covers.
Thank you so much, Paula! This is the only Strathmore I've tried so far but there are so many types I'd love to test in the future!

It's such a bright and happy colour isn't it! I'm looking forward to using my Neocolors more in 2024 - I have some new Neocolor 1s to try!
