My favorite videos are artists’ favorite supplies and how they use them. Thank you for sharing. I always think it’s so generous of artist’s to share their process!
I love the zooming in idea with your 4 images! I also like that you mention buying a few colours to start with and even second hand rather than encouraging us to buy stuff we don’t need!
Thank you so much! 😊 I really appreciate that 🧡 I try not to encourage overconsumption and I think this is the best way to try out the vast amount of art materials that are available 🤗
Loved getting your insight into your fave products and watching you work with them afterward. I return to this video from time to time. It's always helpful.
This is great information for beginners like me! I have no idea what I'm doing or what to get! Your videos and beautiful art are so inspiring to me that I want to try and now I where to begin! Thanks!
wow, just wow! how wonderful that you are able to create such beautiful things...and that you are sharing your talent with us. I love, love, love artists paint pictures especially the mixed media type. Thank you
You are SO inspiring. I feel so grateful you are sharing your process. Thank you so much. I love the idea of layering and the separate panels. Can’t wait to get out my supplies.❤
Thank you so much for sharing your supplies! I greatly admire your work. I'm just getting started with art more seriously and it is so helpful to have this video to reference when I'm shopping for supplies! ❤
Love the idea of using a broad acrylic marker to tint the sketchbook! I have to give it a try. Very informative video. I was dancing around the tombow pens, but wasn't sure how they behave and whether I would like them. I will buy two or three to try and see
Thank you so much, glad it was helpful 🥰 I think that's the best way to do it! That way you can see if you'll get the use out of them - I'd recommend a light, mid and dark tone to start with! 😊
Since the neocolors are waxed I believe you could melt the little hard to hold bits and pour them onto a silicone mold (the stick shaped one) and create new colors in the process
Blackbean CMS did some videos remaking his crayola crayons. Probably wouldnt be much different with neos. That was years ago and his first time but it was pretty successful. He might have some newer attempts maybe.
Thank you so much for this video, it came in perfect timing! I've been wondering how some medias are used, like the neocolor because I got one (I also bought the same light blue that you used😂). You have such great technique in layering and your art is always vibrant❤
You're welcome, thanks for watching! Hope it helps to give you some layering ideas - there are so many possibilities and I don't think there's wrong way to do it! Just requires some experimenting and playing 🤗🤗
@@KatieMoody true. Many ways to do it. But as a rookie I just find that sometimes the colours just disappear too deep into the mix. So even your simple idea about putting beige posca first, kind of helps one out. Thanks.
This video came out at the perfect time! I was wondering about some of the colors you use. I think it is really smart to use the posca pen for quick backgrounds.
Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed watching the way you work and all the layering you do. With regards to your supplies, considering felt pens are stored best upside down, it would be great if Tombow had a colour swatch on the very bottom of the felt, bigger than just a thin line. I’m not sure why this hasn’t already occurred to them…? Also your caran d’ache pastels that keep breaking on you? I bet you can find holders for them-I watched a video a few days ago where a girl had bought holders for her charcoal, so her hands didn’t get all black. Can’t think of a name for them, but I’m wondering if the sizes would match so they could be used for more than just charcoal.
Thank you so much! Yes I totally agree! Though I do find the colours on the pen don't always match up with the colour anyway so I was thinking of creating my own swatches for them and adding as labels! Oh I'll have to look up the holder ideas for the charcoal and see if it can work with neocolors - thanks for sharing! 😊
How do you fix your sketchbook drawings so they do not smudge on double spread panels? I have been looking for a mixed media fixative that won’t break the bank and won’t dissolve wax, stain watercolour and gouache, reactivate felt tip pens or melt water-soluble crayons. Nightmare
I don't fix my sketchbook drawings unless I'm using oil pastels, then I use the Pastel Fixative spray from Jacksons! I just put scraps of paper in between my sketchbook pages so when I'm working on the other side and it smudges the previous page it just dirties the paper rather than the art. It's the best way I've found to minimise it!
@@KatieMoody ah, maybe I am more heavy-handed in my use of smudgy materials than you are - I find my Neocolors tend to smudge on the opposite page and unfortunately I tend to mix Neo I and II so cannot use spray fixatives (my fave on plain Neocolor I is Spectrafix) that would work on the non-soluble wax pastels as they stain or reactivate the Neo II. This is even after I have already gone long past the next page - even if I just leave my sketchbook shut without touching it the Neocolor will stain the other page on contact, so I have resigned myself to just make quick ink brush studies on the opposite page rather than spreads. I still use mixed Neos a lot on my sketchbook as I adore them and they are much less smudgy than soft pastels, oil pastels or charcoal, but they do stain the opposite page. And so does gouache in my sketchbooks because it's so powdery and much thicker than watercolour. I wonder what I am doing wrong! I love your heron by the way!!Nice touch :)
@@gertietheduck Oh what a pain! I agree, the neocolors are definitely less smudgy than other pastels but not resistant! Are you using a Royal Talens sketchbook too, or another brand? I have found though that when I've tested before and sprayed my neocolors with fixative, it didn't cause them to re-activate. Lots of light layers rather than one heavy thick one is recommended so perhaps something to try?
@@KatieMoody I use both Royal Talens and other sketchbooks though I do agree smoother pages tend to smudge a bit less due to less grain causing less friction!
I've used oil pastels and soft pastels in here just fine! It has super smooth paper which works really well for those mediums 🙂 You would need to seal them after because it smudges on to the other page, but that would be the same with all sketchbooks and pastels!
@@KatieMoody thank you so much ! i have always thought that they can only be used on textured paper such as watercolor paper and papers for pastels but i don't want to purchase them yet since i will be only doing this for hobby. and i just recently found your channel
Thank you for your lovely comment, I'm so glad it was useful! And of course! 💜 So I rarely use my Tombows and Ecolines out of my sketchbook - I tend to reach for gouache instead! I think if it was a piece for my personal collection it would be ok as I'm not too worried about longevity, but if I'm creating original artwork to sell on then I use paint for my base layer so that it lasts longer 😊
Hello!! I was wondering if you only use your ecoline and carandache as they are or do you use them in their watercolor form? I mainly use the crayons when i travel since they're watercolors.
Hello! Mostly I do just use them as they are! I love that I can add water if I want to but most of the time I don't! 😊 Such a great idea to use them as travel watercolours 😄
@Katie Moody Watercolours are my main media, but when I see such lovely work like yours, I get the need to try mixed media myself. Gouache is great it's just that it gets pushed back by watercolours in my case. I also have several watercolour sets and I feel bad if I don't use them.

@@KatieMoody so many people seem to dive straight in and feel they need every colour available. I like "making do" with less options.
Another great video! I love how you created a new page with the supplies you had mentioned, so much more helpful than just swatching them. Thank you!
Thank you so much!! 🥰
The separate blobs are a great idea to fill a spread 😮 I might have to give them a try ❤
It's been such a fave of mine recently! Definitely recommend it as a layout 😄💛
Delightful and so helpful !!!
So glad! Thank you 🥰
This is such a great idea. Doing 4 different perspectives of the same picture makes it look cohesive and really cool. X
Thank you so much, Tracy! Still one of my favourite spreads I think 🥰
This was great, love seeing how you layer different products!
Thank you so much! 😊
I love the Karin Decobrush Pigment brush pens with the neocolor II’s. They have a goauche-like look but dry permanent.
Oh interesting! I've only recently heard of these pens but they sound great!
