@@williegordon9188 That's the mark of an artist. Someone who can convey a feeling and message of a song even written by someone else (Stevie Wonder)
and personalize it so much that you don't know if she's singing from a personal view, or someone else. She's a genius. That's all.

+Eric Hernandez I don't quite understand what you are expressing. Yes, the radio stations were mainly white-owned as were the record companies, but black music has been on the radio since I've been alive 1950s until now. Aretha was not the first Black artist to break into commercial radio. Are you trying to say that the artists you named compare or surpass [ her vocally and/or musically? If so, I don't agree (although they are great singers). But you seem to have your time periods mixed up. I am sincerely confused because Ms. Holloway and Ms. Brown, to my understanding, didn't even start recording secular music until the seventies (though Ms. Holloway and Aretha were close in age). Aretha's contemporaries are more like Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Tina Turner who all started recording in the late 50's, I almost feel that you're saying Aretha's fame & popularity is because she was being played on the radio when others weren't. That is absolutely not true.
