It was so fun seeing some of you guys at BUFFER! I appreciate every single face behind every single number in this community!
good seeing you at the after party man, im the one who said you were in one of my vlogs! Do you own the 1dx2 now too? Its def an all in one dream camera
It was great meeting you man! Thank you for the quick selfie!
thanks for your consistency in posting videos! I just clicked that bell for notifications =]
Matti thanks again for taking the time to chat with my girlfriend and I at Buffer! We're more amped about checking Norway than ever now! -Marko
I am trying to decide on a camera for shooting photo and video while traveling and this video was very helpful. It helped me narrow down my decision in every single category I had with exception to 1, stabilization. Is this camera to heavy to fly on a gimbal like the Zheyun V2? I really like having smooth motion in a lot of my B-roll and was wondering if you had a gimbal on this trip or if you shot handheld the whole time? I really care about the quality of image, but if $6000 is already pushing it in my budget for a second camera, would it be better that I went with something a bit cheaper, and put the money into cards, extra batteries, and a gimbal? Or can the Mark II do it all, handheld?
I quite enjoy this camera. :) Tasty vid, bro! kbye
Thanks for getting me into it 🙌 and thanks for leaving secret comments haha
You will now build up one Popeye arm like Peter. haha
Love how Canon users support each others. hahaha
Peter McKinnon tasy indeed!
I love the banter between all of you guys. Makes the community really feel like a family
Matt try setting custom functions C1, C2, C3, i set mine to C1 4k25, C2 4K50 and C3 1080p100, makes life very easy and you dont need to go in to the menus
Nice tip!
Holy cow I never thought of this. Thank you!
ooooh good tip! I'll definitely do that if i get one
Same here! Works so well. C1 4k24, C2 4k60, C3 1080p180
Same here too! The C functions are life savers on run and gun shoots.
*looks for small form factor camera*
*reviews 1DxII*
*Compared to what he usually uses, which are more bigger cinema camera's*
Perspective is everything :)
Great review Matti. I've had this camera for about 15 months now and have loved (almost) every minute of it. I will say I definitely use mine differently though. I almost always shoot in 4K 60p. I love the image and don't mind the codec. I really love the 1080 120p option, but I hate having to enable it in the menu, then disabling to get out of it, and it's really soft, way softer than any other option on the camera. But it cleans up fine in post with a bit of sharpening and grading. I do love shooting in 120p for my RUclips stuff, and have been doing that a little more lately. But mostly I shoot more commercial type stuff for clients, and that's always in 4K. I also love shooting some RUclips stuff, like reviews and tutorials in 4K for the flexibility and being able to basically have another camera angle and slider, pan/tilt, and zooming in/out all in one shot on one camera. Very handy for me. Love your channel and everything yo're doing, cheers from New Mexico!
Totally agree about the flippy screen. Can't live without one now.
🙌
Sick dude! Awesome review. Seems like Canon is really trying to convince everyone to switch over, and it's working! I'll be sticking with Sony for now, but who knows what'll happen down the line. Not sure if I can handle such a big camera :P
haha i think its always about what camera works best. Now that I'm doing RUclips I need a camera that works well for that shooting style. But I would never rock up to a DP job for an agency with a 1D. In that case id grab my c300 haha but you get the point. Different cameras for different projects and different shooting styles
Definitely man! Cameras are merely tools for the job and each job is different. Stoked to see if you get your own 1D!!
I remember switching from my canon t3i to a Sony a7s. haven't regretted it yet!
I think you'll find its the other way around. Sony is the new kid on the block.
Love your stuff, looking forward to the Q&A Video from the questions you asked that you wanted in the other upload. Keep killing it!
Its coming!
Honestly I have the Sony a6300, and I love it, it’s 1080p 120fps is so clean and the dynamic range is awesome, let’s not forget the slow mo is insane, but yeah, I see your point, canon 1dx ii > Sony a9. Sure :)
Creative Davonte a7 iii or 5d iv? Or 1dx?
All the crop sensor cameras have an equivalent wide angle lens to something like canons 16-35
What up Matt! Nice to find you here bro. I've been subbed to your channel for a couple years! 🙏🏻✌🏼
Pixels & Bytes right on, I appreciate it!
But the out-of-focus background would look like a 10-24mm lens on FF.
Just like a 55mm lens in medium format creates way better background compared to 35mm on FF.
esphi LEE yea but you can also use your aputure to balance that out. A speed booster on a gh5 gives you about a stop so if the full frame is at 2.8 you can shoot at 1.8 and achieve a similar depth of field...
Hey Matt 😎
I literally switched over from a Nikon D4s + a ton of lenses to Canon just for the 1DXII. So much better in every way for what I shoot and how I shoot, since I do probably 60/40 video/stills for weddings, seniors, events, corporate video, wedding video, family photos, etc. Pretty much agree in every regard with what's in this video! Also CFast cards are so expensive but totally worth it! I also picked up a 5DIV as well, and the video quality in that is really nice but the 1DXII is another level (especially 1080p 120fps and a usable 4K crop.)
I'm glad im not the only one! 🙌
I love the way you explain things to us. I'm really happy to be a part of this wonderful community #travelfeels. Thank you.
Super nice of you! So glad your here. I love having positive people like you part of this community 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Another great video! I agree a flip out screen would be nice, but I wonder if Canon opted out of giving this a flip out screen because of how rugged the rest of the 1dxii. Can you imagine a lightweight tilted screen on this beast?
Great stuff Matti! Found you from Peter McKinnon's videos. So glad to be diving into your content.
Glad your here!
On the 1dx mark ii you can unlock the multi function option so you can program three setting. I have mine set to where when you hit the multi function button c1 is 120 fps. Then c2 my second setting is 4k 24 and last but not least is 4k 60. So when i need to jump to the next setting it with the click of one button. Im going to do a video on it soon.
4 months ago... you had 160,000 followers.... today... 304,000. Congrats Mattie, keep creating and inspiring
Your comments are spot on especially regardig dynamic range. Canon sensors just dont quite match Sony sensors yet. But dynamic range is not so important if you know lighting. I'm sat in my garden in the Philippines, coffee in hand getting my regular dose of inspiration from your channel.
I totally agree about heavy camera weight being a pro and not a con -- I've actually had to weld a dumbbell to my olympus because it's too small and light.
haha i dunno if your being serious but thats amazing 😂
If you are a beginner dont spend $6K in the 1DXII. Spend $4K in a 5D.
Yeah crap cheap
or less on an 80D or GH5 works too
Javier Gonzalez haha yeah man, surely there’s not much difference between them
or a Xt-2 or a6500
Javier Gonzalez more like a t7i or Nikon d5600
Which is ironic considering that canon seems to be growing in a shrinking market. ;-)
I really, really, really like this video. It's really helpful because I was really thinking about getting the camera. Really.
Awesome! Its a great camera but just like any camera its not for everyone. Try it out and see how you like it!
The MJPEG files are something that everyone has overlooked. It’s like a global shutter. The 4K is cropped so you can use EFS lens on it.
Do a side by side between Mirrorless and DSLR shooting!
Thanks for the review man! It was great to see you at Buffer Fest! Didn't personally meet you but I might have been the one to obnoxiously take some photos of you. :$ Good times!
haha no worries man! Thanks for watching
I use a 5d mark 4 for my videos at the moment. You can take a look to see what quality is coming from the camera, but I was always confused about the benefits of the 1dX for video. I knew there was better slow motion, but what I DIDN'T know, until I watched YOUR video, was that AUTOFOCUS was enabled during slow motion capture. That's huge. Even the Canon C200 doesn't have that and it is a dedicated video camera at about $8000. Thanks for the great info. Where are you located? I'm in western Canada. You should come to my neighbourhood for a shoot. We've got some amazing wilderness here for you to shoot in.
Hi Mat! Would you say the IQ for video on the 1dx ll is better than the 5D IV? How difficult is vlogging without flip out screen? We are vlogging with a Lumix g7 in manual focus and it’s a pain, but the flip out screen really helps for knowing we are well exposed, in frame and in focus. Did you use only the center point for focusing? What about the face recognition? And this is the last one hahaha, we watched a lot of Canon 6D Mark ll reviews on RUclips and some footage looks crap but other looks really well and sharp. What’s happening?? Hahaha.
Nekojitablog que buena energia verlos aca !! Un saludo, yo voy a comprar la G85 que lo mismo que la G7 no? Pero con estabilizador? Estan contentos con la G7 aparte lo de los focus?
so many q's!
Hola!!
G7 sucks for focus, image is the same on 5d and 1dx but 1dx has better video recording options. It’s almost impossible he used centre focusing because the eyes are almost never in the centre of the frame, unless they are, then use centre point focusing. Facial detection is great. 6Dmkii is another DSLR so you’re gonna get DSLR results. Some people know how to use it some don’t. If they don’t use the neutral profile with no sharpening then it’s prob gonna look too sharp. If you ever see good DSLR video they’re probably using Film Convert which uses your image more or less as a reference and practically makes its own better image. (Not really but in effect that’s what you’re getting). FC smooths out the jagged lines of the DLSRs over sharpening and smooths the skin tones too, selectively sharpening specific areas to maintain detail. The video still IMO doesn’t look more than 720p but it looks like 720p from an Alexa with tones more colour info and detail and appears more film-like than the original footage.
Cheers
The Canon 1DXii is definitely one of my dream cameras, sadly its way to expensive for me.
I also love canon and the colors of their cameras, but great cameras like the 5Div are also not in my budget, :(
But who cares, great Video! hopefully your uploding another episode of TFF next time!
greetings from germany.
I did quickly zoom through your videos and it doesn't look bad at all. I own the 5D MKiv myself, and while this is a great camera that I absolutely love. Remember that it doesn't make your movies that much better. 4K capabilities in a full frame is nice, but it is a level of quality that most people will never get to enjoy, because not a lot of people have a screen or even internet connection good enough to sustain it.
I only use 4K to be able to down scale it into 1080 or be able to cut and zoom as I have more video to work with, so that I still end up with 1080p quality. It also eats up previous memory space. At 4 GB per 1 minute of footage.
of course, at the moment I want to buy the Sony a6300 because the price performance is pretty good and it is still a great camera.
But you're definitely right, its all about the story, not the gear.
Keep hustling until you can afford it! Usually if you cant afford it you dont need it yet
Have you look into the Canon 6D Mark I? Its a great entry into full frame cameras due its quality and price point
This was the first video I've ever watched of yours and your insight was very helpful! I plan on getting the 1DX II in a couple months. SUBSCRIBED
Great video. I have the 1dx mark ii and I just love it. The size and quality is amazing. It's expensive yes, but for me is worth every Norwegian kroner I paid for it 😃
Awesome! 🙌
Great insight and Interesting views on the 4K footage as Philip Bloom says the 1DX gives him his favourite 4K image.
Hm thats interesting. Maybe I gotta push through the crappy codec and use it more!
TravelFeels actually, I think he was referring to the 1DC. Not sure if there’s a difference in codec between the 2. Would be interesting to see if there’s a difference in 4K image between them.
Solid review!
Yooooo reply to this!?!?😳
Great review! I am currently using an 80D. I dream about the 1D! So awesome! Your footage looks amazing!
Thanks so much man!
Footage looks great! I wish I could afford a camera with 120fps and autofocus. I shoot on the T3i and I can only shoot 60fps and that is at 720. Autofocus would really help keeping a jeep in focus on the trails. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching man 🙌
Sell your camera and buy sony a6300 it does 120fps and autofocus. Only problem, no flip out screen. The good thing is, it is nog crazy expensive and the quality is damn good!
😭 The B-Roll is Amazing! Please teach us how you make your b-roll 🙏🏼 your style is phenomenal 👁
I am ordering the Nikon d500! Can’t wait!
It is 2020 now, but I still think it is a beast in the camera world.
Photography market outside Europe is way so different, the margin to grow and speed is way better. The mentality over for what photography is needed is more educated. Here in Europe, we need to pray to make someone even think in hiring a photographer.....
Enjoying your video I live in St. Louis Missouri and I know quite a few photographers and nobody even talks about a flip screen as far as I know and they all shoot Canon’s. The only time I hear complaints about cameras or too big is on RUclips. Have a nice day, I’m going back to watching your video.
Great Review! I love my 1DX ii and use it for everything.
🙌
Awesome camera and this is one of my bucket list to have it
From my POV of a photographer 1Dx Mark II is a great camera for sport and events. It is extremely rugged, reliable and has the best battery life. It is the most customisable Canon DSLR too.
However, IMO it has more cons than pros. It is super expensive and heavy. Its charger is also very large and heavy. The flash cards and the batteries are very expensive. Its dynamic range lacks a lot compared to Sony's recent mirrorless cameras.
I can't comment on video, but indeed the 120 fps looks amazing. I think the bad thing is the mjpeg codec used, which generates extremely large files (which will make you splurge on more CFast cards).
So, my feedback:
1. I don't have a Canon 1DX M2 but I've tried it and I really like the size. That's the reason I use a battery grip on my 80. I'm Looking to upgrade to the Canon 5D MIV from my Canon 80D. I would never spend that much money even for my professional needs.
2. Stabilization on Canon cameras for vlogging and handheld shooting is not awesome. That's why I use the GH5 for a lot of run and gun stuff. I consider stabilization one priority in video.
3. I really love the fact that 4k has crop factor in 1DX M2 and 5D M4, that way I can keep using my sigma 18-35 f1.8.
4. The GH5 with the metabones is wide enough, similiar to Full Frame. However Auto Focus becomes even more crap. Big downside for vlogging. Irrelevant for B-Roll.
5. 1080 is becoming obsolete. I've been visiting some friends of mine which are using 4K TV's already at 40-50 inch size, and when we're watching youtube videos, no matter how good the 1080p is shot or well edited, it just looks bad on those 40-50 inch tv's. On smaller TV's it's ok.
6. I believe the 5D M4 has better image than 1DX M2 because it has a newer sensor? Can you confirm this one? I've never tested a 5D4.
Nice review! Are you still usig the GH5?
5D4 is a 1.7 crop factor in 4k. Useless.
Well, it's surely not fantastic, but it's not useless as well. Imagine using that sigma 18-35 f1.8. I'ts basically the same as using my 80D with 1.6 crop factor.
I walked by you at buffer festival and you gave me the raddest head nod, thanks for being rad on camera and off haha- I should've came up to say hi but you were busy at the moment. I'm glad you had time to visit Buffer Festival! I had a ton of fun there, what was your favourite part of the festival?
hahah awesome! You should definitely come chatted. Just meeting new people! Loved hanging out with people like John Hill and Sara Dietschy
I've been really waiting for this review! Commenting before watching it! 😁
🙌
Thanks for this review, I'm using a Nikon D3300 which is as beginner as you can get, but since I shoot paintball, I can't really rent a camera to test it out since the equipment is always at risk for damage. Durability, focal range, autofocus and high quality slow motion are important factors for me in an ideal setup, but dynamic range enough to get good low-light b-roll is important too, so I'm at a loss to find something affordable. I'm looking into Sony's A7rII or the GH5 but I'm not sure.
Why am I watching a review of something I will never be able to buy... Cause it's nice to see a new Matty's video ;D
the BEST! haha 🙌 Thanks for watching man
Music is so loud :D I was audiusting levels throught video :(
I couldn’t agree with you more on the flip screen issue. I have a 5d and really hope that the next version has that feature. I can’t imagine why canon has not embraced this on their higher end cameras. Wake up canon.
170k views 535 comments? That’s crazy! You deserve more my dude
DashFlash- The Life you must be new here lol
First video of yours I watched. Almost a year in and I still love!
I am a sports photographer using only the Canon 1DX Mark 2. I love this camera. it's the best camera I have ever owned. I owned top of the sports cameras from Nikon and the rest and none of them stand up with this camera. I hate flip screens and if this camera had one, I wouldn't touch it, and I won't buy a camera with that piece of garbage on it. I have seen so many photographers break them off in the heat of a sports shoot.
this camera is made for professionals, not for youtube blog, that s why they don't put the flip lcd screen. Is made to have an external lcd in case u need pro stuff videos. Also entry levels cameras have a built in flash and when u buy pro camera they just don't put it because u are required a good external flash.
Wooooo! Travel Feels video!
🙌
Love the new intro Matti!
Thanks dude! 🙌
This camera costs as much as my car.
Costs more than mine 😂 #priorities
I lost it on this one. Lol
The price cannot be justified I am sorry. It is a 5D with some extra features lacking others. How does it cost so much more? For what 120 frames?
I definitely understand what you say, but 1dx and 5d are 'prosumer' cameras.
I am not a sony advocate but i think it is the best bang for your buck right now
For a full frame kit for both photo and video i think the best bet would be a7ii w/ 24-70mm f/4 and 2cheap primes like a 35 and 85 f/1.8, bringing the total cost to around 3k, and a lot less if you buy everything used.
For a crop sensor i chose a6300 w/ 16-70mm f/4 and a sigma 30mm f/1.4 + vintage 50mm f/1.7, i bought everything used, it cost me 1,5k and the image quality is crazy
Despite the colour science of Canon, etc, putting side to side a $ 1,900 camera with a $6000 (GH5 vs 1DXMkII) it's valid since they are both cameras in the """"same"""" price range, but overall, it's a camera that is 3 times more expensive and that is not 3 times better. I do understand that this is not an accurate way to meassure things in this camera world but price IT IS a factor for it is a reflection of components + engineering + developing, etc (same with cars, computers, phones, whatever).
Lovely review. You comunicate things in a super open - sincere way that is super engaging. Appreciated.
Honestly, even considering this camera as a beginner is crazy in my opinion. I also don't really get why you'd recommend like a 5d or 80d for a beginner. The 5d and 80d are by no means 'beginner' camera's. They really are pro camera's. I would recommend a beginner to start off with one of the cheapest DSLR camera's you can find out there. I personally started with the 1000d. I wouldn't recommend that since it doesn't have a video function, but even like the 1300d would be great for a beginner. If your budget is higher you could go to like the 800d or something, but honestly I wouldn't even go there since you are, as the word states, just beginning. Hope this helped some of you out there!
Your video is so inspiring! Nice footage in Norway
Thank you! 🙌
these are the reviews who you need! Super clear, Thanks!
I just got the 1DXii and canon 24-70mm f2.8 l II for half price. I may just keep it.. LOVING my canon 80D (for now)
Great review, showing ways to use it and who it is for. Something to save up for both $$ and with experience first. Thanks!
Not sure if its been said before but you can set up two custom modes for 120 and then 24 fps that you can swap between c1 and c2
Thanks for sharing! I've been thinking of switching from the Sony a7sii to this camera
Both great cameras!
wait, think you could sell me your a7sii? I currently have the mk 1 and am looking to upgrade.
Krysten Novak I had the same internal struggle with my A7S ii. When I made the switch, I didn’t look back. I am extremely happy with the 1DX ii.
TechJMedia thanks for the feedback!!! We notice a lot of issues
I am currently using an a7sii, I love it and it's amazing for video, but I am really considering switching to this camera as a photographer as well
thanks dude! Love your stuff!
Saw tweets from Buffer fest! Looked really fun! How was it?
Yea it was great!
my solution for the flip out screen is to plug a Note 8 directly into the camera and use DSLR controller. works great, and you don't have to launch anything, just plug it in.
Nice! PRobably a bit of lag though
TravelFeels actually, because it’s hardwired and not wireless it’s practically instantaneous.
Matti - For all the A7RII shooters out there (including myself): How do you deal with colors being somewhat off all the time? I know you have a ton of experience with that. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, happy subscriber here. :)
Practice! It definitely makes you a better color grader if you can push through. But for me sometimes time is everything so Id rather not always deal with it 😭
in other words..... it is worth it. I went from the a7sii to the 1dx mkii. best purchase.
Pretty much! haha but only for a certain level or certain people
I'm really wanting one. I've been using a Canon T3i since 2012. I feel like I've gotten all that I can out of it. I want to get more gear and do a little catch up with industry standards though. I still use Sony Vegas Pro 12 as well, I'd like to try out Premiere Pro, it seems way more useful when it comes to editing Slow Motion footage. Vegas isn't that reliable, you either drag the clip out longer or lose some of the footage by using a velocity feature. I like how Premiere Pro can automatically convert 120 fps to match your timeline and there's no need to worry about slowing it down and you can get right to selecting your favorite shots.
Forrest Judd you feel like you should get a 1dx and have the money then get it. Nooooo rageetttsssssss. Keep in mind tho if you have a stabilizer your gonna need something bigger for the 1dx
I use Devin Super Tramp's Glidecam, that's all I have at the moment. I mostly do handheld. I'm definitely interested in getting a Ronin or Freefly Movi later on though.
Just bought a 1DX2 for $900 with a 16-35mm 2.8 L lens. Just 6 years later and this camera is $5000 cheaper. Never buy a camera new people! Put that extra cash towards lenses!
There are several options for flat profiles that can help with maximizing the dynamic range on the 1DXII/5D4 sensor...which is actually extremely high. I suggest Marvels Cine Picture Style because I've heard a few guys that shoot it and love it MORE than C-Log on their 1DC. This is my main camera...well I actually shoot the 5D4 more because of it's higher resolution, but the 1DXII is my main sports body and it can take anything you throw at it.
The 1dx ii has better pic quality than the 5d mk iv doesn’t matter about the mp
I have to tell you I had the R6 twice I returned the first one because I found a flaw when you shooting very low light with dark surfaces you can see a kind of burn going across the screen like something out of a movie Omen. When I got the second camera I thought the problem was solved and maybe it was just an issue with the first one but it showed up in the second R6 also. So I bought a 1DX Mark II My photos are insanely good they’re actually better than the R6 photos. The R6 is great but it has this digital appearance to the photos whereas the 1DX mark to it’s just crisp and spot on. This you can see on my Instagram with the storm trooper photos. Instagram MarcVisuales. Check it out to see what I mean. I will be doing a video most likely about this flaw I found in the R6 and it’s a major flaw that they need to fix.
An awesome review Matt, you're a big inspiration. My only comment is it seems like it makes sense that such a rugged camera doesn't have a flip screen as I'm sure that would be a huge weak spot for a camera designed to be thrown around and really take a beating. What are your thoughts?
Hi Matti, you *really nailed it with the 1dxii for the cinematics b-roll* !
I'm a Sony shooter at the moment, did you used one before, or are you planing to test one of them in a next trip ?
Anyway, thanks a lot for *sharing your amazing work with us* !
I have an A7rII but i dunno sometimes I'm annoyed by it and especially the colors
Alright, i understand, i'll wait til the next sony body is announced to see if it could fit my needs.
At the moment i'm using a very cheap cinematic setup, and i'm really happy with it.
Sony colors are not the best, but the workflow is perfect for me right now.
Thanks for uploading great videos like this, it really keeps us motivated to create !
TravelFeels Check out the EOSHD Pro Color profiles, it makes the colors more like Canon and it's quite enjoyable
You wanna sell it then? :)
I'd like to see your thoughts on the Canon CX15... I think they are a bit over priced but for events and things could be nice.
Yea its an interesting camera not sure exactly where it fits. I havent tried it yet tho!
Great video Matti! It's like you talked yourself into it and then right out of it at the end. Haha! I do that all the time.
Look at the Canon 800D small, lightweight, 1080p at 60fps...I have it and it works great! highly recommend!
Canon for life!
...even though secretly I’d love to try out some sony’s simply cause they look cool 😅👌
haha 🙌
We want FLIP we want FLIP we want FLIP lcd screens. Super helpful for astrophotography. I started with a Canon 60d and I miss that screen. Keep up the great work!
Im with you 10000%
Those pro-body DSLRs don't have articulating screens because the hinge makes the whole screen assembly more fragile and makes extreme weather sealing difficult. I doubt even the next generation of them will have articulating screens, it just doesn't make sense for the type of camera it is and who it's being marketed too.
Awesome Video!! Thank you so much for being so informative!
looove your stuffffff, thanks for always educating
The biggest downside is, that it "only" shoots 20MP-photos. But then again it's supposed to be a sports-camera and honestly very few people need more than those 20MPs. Still, I sincerely hope they either come up with a 5D with better video-features or a 1DX with the still-image-features it deserves … and a more usable 4K-codec for both of 'em.
Oh its plentyyy for me. I never print massive photos so it doesnt matter for me
Absolutely. As long as you don't need to hand off huge sizes to clients who want to print them for exhibition stands or something like that, the 1DXs 20MPs are more than enough :)
Great review as always but damn those music levels compared to narrating, blasted my ears of since I use headphones.
Have you checked the Fuji x-t2? They are releasing a firmware update that will double the already great video AF. It doesn't have a flip LCD screen but it's a great camera.
This is the camera I’m aiming towards in the future but I would rather work on my creative filming and photography first. What’s your thoughts on the GH5? I have a G7 and looking to upgrade, can’t decide between GH5 and Sony A7Sii
iPhone X has 120,240 + 100bit @ 1080. Besides the lack of shallow DOF what do you think of it? It would be great to see you shoot some cinematic vlog type content with iPhone X or equivalent other phone brand just for testing.
Thanks for the lowdown! I did consider to get it but man, it’s AUD$9000 body only... so dang! Can’t afford it for now, gonna roll with 6D M2 instead.
Please do a 6d mark II review!!! Would to hear your thoughts and opinions:) it's smaller and full frame. And would be nice to hear from a professional like you how the 1080 footage looks . Thank you!
JT Fore for video just the 80d and the 5d m4 are making sense
I think I might try to!
Imagine after a year this camera is obsolete in terms of performance and specs when compared to cameras at a quarter of the price. Still an awesome camera and in my eyes was the perfect DSLR.
I'm happy with my Sony a7sii and lenses. Would love to try the 1dx2 but it is big and everyone says the codex is big and horrible.
Please test the Nikon D5 or D850, would like to see what you think about these guys, keep your vlogs on rockin'. Cheers
My favourite drinking game: one shot for “really”, two for “really good”.
I’m wasted.
Bought this camera used with a 16-35mm 2.8 L lens for only $800 😂. Crazy how much the price goes down in just 7 years. Buying used is the way!
for video it's a hard sell given that now the canon c200 is out for $7500......so unless you need the portability and weather-sealing than just spend the little extra for the c200 (which is getting a 4.2.2 colour updated)
Hi, thank you for all the great videos! I cant stop watching these :-) But could you do a video just about the focus? I have the Canon 5d markt 4 which has the same autofocus-system...which settings for the autofocus would you use if you follow a person for exampel...with distance-changes? Thanks a lot
Not everyone wants a flip screen to break off or compromise the weather seal. Imagine sand getting up in there in a sand storm.
Hey Matti,
One thing I’m wandering: none of the canon cameras come with IBIS, nor would I assume that the fast primes you’re using are stabilized. Isn’t this an issue doing your vlogs? How do you workaround that ? I’d guess the warp analyzer will be needed in either way.
Cheers,
Daniel
Hey Matti, Could you look at doing a Sony A9 review asnd a gopro hero 6 review?
Love your work ✌
🙌
Been waiting for this video. I've got one from B&H coming on loan to compare to my GH5 rig. I've always debated on if this was the right camera for me. I'm happy with the GH5 but I shoot a ton in 120 and the canon just looks so much better to me. Also, having just one camera for RUclips, it would be SO much easier to have an AF system I could count on for talking head shots when I'm the only camera operator and the subject. Thanks for the review! Interested to hear if you're considering picking one up to replace your GH5?
I'm very tempted to sell both my GH5 and Sony A7RII and just get this
Really?!?!? Well that's very telling. I have the GH5 and the G85 so I would be selling those and all my lenses if I switched. I don't have any Canon glass so besides the 70-200 L what other 2 lenses would you recommend for me to pick up to test out? Need one for talking head shots for RUclips, so something fairly wide.
Timothy Sunday keep the GH5, to make something cinematic you need 2 things, color and movement. If you watch movies Footage before grading or any post production, they look horrible. Don't let this "full frame quality" fool you, most cameras used in movies/series aren't even full frame. Use your GH5, shoot log, learn how to use the waveform and grade. That's how it's done in the movies anyway. Cheers.
i'm gonna buy the 80d And maybe one time the 1dx mark 2
my dream camera
Keep hustling! 🙌
Loved your prospective! This has helped a lot 👍🏼
