Nice review - you're a bit crazy using knock off batteries on a 6,000$ camera.
Dude great review. I was just thinking about the log thing and how my film buddies are always trying to convince me how important it is to shoot with a real camera and shoot in log then record in raw. Their footage always falls way short of my 1dc with its 85 f12 in native canon straight out of the box setting . Going to Grab the mark II tomorrow for the focus and 4k 60p
best review so far! you just sold me the camera!
Thanks for your review and your low light tests !
Absolutely!
Great review thank you! I am planning on buying the 1Dx MKii myself but was wondering how the camera is performing in 4K with CF cards only?
Awesome review. I've been heavily debating getting the 1dx from the A7S
Canon user forever. I once put a "knock off" battery in a 5 day old Canon DLSR and IT STUCK... Long pause on phone when I called tech support with no solution. Wife's sewing needle finally dislodged it. Have NEVER used anything but Canon batteries since. Great review. Have had 1DX MKII for a week. Very exciting to learn all of the new tricks this pony will do. Thanks.
Great video! Very helpfull input. Like the fact you incorporated some stock video/photo did some comparisons and even did some testing of your own. Very helpful, thank you. 😊
Great review! Thank you. That footage at the beginning is unreal
The 1dx mark ii is a wet dream I want one so bad, but I got the 5d mark iv so I'm on my way.
I have a 5d mk 4 too but was a bit disappointed with the video quality. I'm new to shooting video though so don't have a lot to compare it to - only shot once with an FS7 (which was great, obviously). What are your thoughts on the 5d so far?
tomalapevides depends on lenses
I really appreciate the comparison between the different frame rate settings and how much memory each will use. I'm currently considering the 1DX II or the 5D IV. The video and audio settings definitely will help also! I've been shooting on my 7D for 7 years, and it's time to upgrade! What video editing software do you use and like best? I'm excited to check out some more of your videos. I liked this one and subscribed. Also, have you tried out the Devin Graham Glidecam? It looks pretty awesome from the interview they did with him when it was first released!
Hey thanks for watching! Glad the video helped. I still have a 7D as my C cam. So durable. I use Premiere for editing. Love it. Yes, please check out some more of my main video on this channel I'm commenting with! This is where I put my actual work. Yes, I use the DGS Glidecam. It's awesome.
Hey, I like your style. Humble and honest. You admit when you've made mistakes and I like that. Nice one buddy. Subbed.
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Fantastic review and comparison. Efficient and thorough. I've been an A7sii (FE 2.8 24-70 GM lens) user for a little over a year. I primarily bought it for the low light and interviews and I've loved it. It's not perfect but do mostly corporate video for a university and almost everything is run and gun for more reasons than I'll go in to. For me, I can't see myself ever going back to a DSLR. There's too much I love about mirrorless.
Your review, however, does give me a greater appreciation for Cannon's advances in video on their DSLRs. I still think that they're behind, but I'll be watching to see what they do in the next few years with the rumored mirrorless camera I keep hearing about.
Great video man! Thanks for your input. I was on the fence about getting the A7rii or the 1DX2. You convinced me to stay with Canon.
Love the close up shots of the camera and menus. Nice video. Thanks.
Awesome dude thanks for the honest review just what I was looking for 😁
Really enjoyed the way that you explained this camera. I am having some decisions to make as we are expanding our video offerings to clients. We have a Canon 5D Mark iii and are pretty happy with everything except focusing capabilities. Have added an external EVF but still not 100%. Everyone says to go to Sony but we have a few Canon lenses. After watching this, it seems the 1DX may be the solution we are looking for.
I love it! Definitely a good option. The 5Div is great as well.
Great informative vid. I shoot the 1DX2 myself professionally and I agree with everything you have said. Great piece of equipment from Canon
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it!
Really helpful video. Thanks mate!
Absolutely! Glad you liked it.
This is classic, I did the exact same thing as you about a month ago. So glad I did, the sony while it has a pleasing picture was such a frustrating camera! Its funny to think I thought I was crazy for doing this.... I love the 1dx2, such a painful purchase ($10.5K here in NZ) but its a great tool that should last and prove its worth over the next few years of shooting. Its already been drenched in snow and rain, -20 temps don't have to worry about it. I work in the mountains, in the cold the little sony batteries only lasted 15mins!! Ended up having to jerry-rig a USB bank to power the camera, not a good look on a pro shoot...
This video is amazing! I've watched so many 1dx ii reviews since I'm really considering buying one. You covered all the exact questions I still had. And even taught me a few things about the audio signal. Thank you! And nice film shots! Are you using a glidecam or a different stabilizer?
Thanks man! Stoked you liked it. Glad to hear it covered everything for you! I use a Glidecam for all my stabilizer work, love it!
I'm looking to jump bank into a pro camera here by the end of the year. a few years ago I was shooting the D700 and D3x and loved those bodies. I took a break from photography however recently rediscovered my passion. I currently just use an Xt1 Fuji which is a great little camera however I do I feel it lacks that pro feel and performance. I am considering the switch or "upgrade" to a canon 5D iv however I would LOVE a 1Dx ii. I'm just not sure if the extra $$ is worth it to me.
I consider this a long term investment as I call it the "mac book pro" principal. I've gotten a good solid 10 years out of my 2007 MBP before I retired it.... and I'm looking to do something similar in my next camera. I mainly used the camera for personal use however I do, do some special events and client work so having something to get the most out of the shot is worth it for me. My main career is NOT photography but I do like high end things.
Being that the 5D iv just got the new update to shoot 1080 at I think 100fps or something like that... and that it's 30mp compared to the 1d at I think 20ish... would you say the 1Dx is worth the extra $$? I Don't need 14fps and would be happy with the 5D FPS but as I mentioned I'm just looking for something that I can carry out long term. I know tech is always evolving and I do plan to get more into video... Is the 1D 60fps @ 4k that important for the future.... Thanks for any feedback
Thanks for the review!
I have been shooting Sony A7Sii for awhile now and overall I like it. However, my biggest beef with it is the mirrorless body. Every time I change a lens out, I have to pay special attention to the sensor to make sure no dust had made it in. I have had shots ruined because of that.
I am thinking about going back to Canon and going with the 1dx. A lot of what I shoot consists of run and gun projects capturing b-roll, and historically when I have shot with my mark iii I get frustrated from people who will see me and ‘plant and grin’ because they think I am capturing stills. I am hoping with the larger body of the 1dx some of that may be eliminated, but I would love to hear your thoughts.
Hey thanks for doing this. I just ordered on last night. Can't wait.
Thanks for watching! Awesome. You'll love it!
Hi! That's a really great video you made, kiddos, keep it up! I was wondering if since this video you tried out the mark iii and maybe other cannons, like R5 for example. Anyways, your video was very clear without being boring, good job & thanks
How do you avoid the noise from your lens when it's using auto focus? I set up my Rode lens just as you suggested but still hear the movement of the autofocus??? suggestions?
Welcome Back!!!!!
beautiful video!!! Great job! You did the right thing!
Thanks!
Thanks so much for this great review! Really helpful! I'm looking into picking one up soon.Im looking mostly at shooting in 1080 at 60fps without having to do alot of cc (I do weddings) would you still recommend this camera? I see its been awhile since you put this video up. Thanks so much
I would get this for the shutter sounds.
Lol
Kidron Cannon great vid man that's my next cam...subscribed
Awesome!! Thanks for the sub! Glad you liked it.
Totally dope, man. Thanks so much for this! Truly stunning footage!
I've rented and really dig the C300 II. That camera is like a dream come true. It literally has everything I've ever wanted, in one small package. Truly to die for image quality. The 1DX II seems to be almost every bit as good image and focus wise, minus the lack of NDs and XLR. Have been considering it. Could you consider putting up more Sony vs Canon 1DX II footage?
Thanks! Glad you liked it! Yeah, the C300ii is fantastic...but no stills! If that's important to you, 1Dxii might be way to go. But if XLRs are more important, maybe the C300.
I would put up more Sony v Canon, but I don't any Sony footage on my computer anymore, those projects are in the archives now! Haha
I have to say my main interest is stills but it is nice to know that if I want to I can get great video out of a 1DX II. I plan to buy two of them.
Good perspective, thanks.. I do note the Cfast cards they recommend, the Lexar 3500x CFast are $200 for 64GB.. Just an added cost to consider.
This review changed my thinking! This looks like a better camera than even the C200!
What are you transcoding the MJPEG footage to, or are you just editing it like it is
Did you use some sort of stabilizer on the shots like a glidecam or movi? Great review btw
Amazing video. Very thorough. I have subscribed and look forward to new publications. I am shooting on an 80 and 70D and want a significant upgrade. I love slow motion capabilities as well as low light. I have started filming a lot of commercial work. Would you say the 1DX is superior to the 1DC, and why? Thank you very much!
I did the exact same switch. Glad to be back in the canon camp everything works no hiccups. Basically giving up a few features of the Sony to gain a much better overall system and reliability. The ergonomics on the 1 DX ii are brilliant as well as the color. I will not be back in the Sony camp for a long time until they fix some of the issues they have. Color on the Sony was one of my biggest gripes. Then add up all the other small things the sony had wrong and the amazing features it offered were not worth the pains it caused.
Agreed completely! For some people, the few features are worth it to deal with all the Sony issues. But for me, it was too big a pain! Colors mostly. And little issues. Plus focusing! But yeah Canon is just stellar! Love the feel and functionality. Thanks for commenting!
Good video, thanks. Is the 1DX sample footage at the beginning of the video yours or Canon advertising material? (it's lovely wherever it comes from!)
It was mine! Thanks
Bro. Love this! Thank so much for your hard work on this video. I was trying to find a solid review of this camera that went straight to the point and this is it! Are you color grading at all in post?
Couple quick questions if you have time!
How long do your batteries last in the IDX Mark II?
Charge time?
Are you mainly shooting commercial stuff or any weddings? We're mainly weddings and I want to figure out how many batteries a full day would take.
Hey glad you liked it! haha yeah i like to get straight to it! lol
I did not color grade anything in post at all.
Batteries last a long time! Filmed today about 5 hours on one.
Charge time isn't too bad. From dead, maybe 3 hoursish?
I'm shooting LOTS of weddings! Usually 2.5 batts for a wedding day.
ruclips.net/video/O6FNp2vJa1s/видео.html
Is it best to enable "HIGH ISO NOISE REDUCTION" in camera? Or leave it off and then remove it in post with Denoiser / Neat Video?
Great + interesting post (even though I do not shoot videos myself)... Now, if you look at photography only, what is the maximum usable ISO you would use, where you do not de-noise the image before handover?
Super helpful review!! thanks so much man!
Awesome review/thoughts on the switch. I am currently debating switching from the a6500 to the Canon 1dx 2. Not sure if its a smart move tbh lol. I primarily do video. Also had another question for you. Does the 1dx2 have auto focus when shooting 120fps in 1080? The GH5 for example does not. so wanted to double check
Sorry for the late reply. Yes! AF in every video mode. And it's fantastic
60D bought used, been 17 below and 110 deg-100 percent salt air humidity...bought a d7200 which is brilliant..when IT wants to...long story short..my canon is my go to when it counts.getting the 1DXII later this yearr
Great review Kidron! I'm glad you waited to do a comprehensive review with all your thoughts vs. just a something abridged. Now you just have to convince Becca to switch. ;)
Thanks man! Glad you liked it! Hahaha we were talking about it yesterday. We kind of like have our own gear though. Lol
Haha...fair enough. :) Nikon also has a pretty great value proposition when comparing the full frame bodies.
+Jon Yoder yeah for sure!! The d750 is impossible to beat on value for a photography camera IMO. But I've filmed with Nikon before and I just don't like it! I think Canon is designed better for video and Nikon is designed better for photography.
Perfect review man! Thanks
If you don't need 4k - is the 5d mk4 comparable (sensor, resolution, colours, look)? - I do documentaries for german TV and 422 Full HD via HDMI is good enough for me.
incredibly good review. I'm a Canon to Sony bak to Canon guy here. 5D2--> C300 --> Sony a7sii --> 1dx ii. You hit every aspect perfectly. for me it was partly cause I owned L Lenses already. no matter the adpater or whatver, those lenses do not work 100% perfectly with a sony body. The ergnoomics. its why I loved my C300 so much, the body just feels soooo good. blew me away. even comapred to older pro bodies, this one just feels like they finally got it totally perfectly right in every small millimeter. I fucking loved my sony, the body custom buttons and build worked for me, it was a nice camera, but this is just another level, and the color issue with sony was a constant issue as well. Just loved the clarity of the footage and space saving low nice clear codec, but this is another level. I'm glad you talk about 1080 60p being good too. I just got this camera so I have yet to shoot a project with it but i like you was planning on doing alot of 1080 60p so i'm glad to hear its not too soft and the colors look great. I will shoot 4k and 60fps 4k but for major productions where budget can justify space. Ever since the 5D2 i thought somone would make that perfect DSLR cam, with the proper frame rates and decent video functions, i feel like its finally come. yet it needs peaking and small other this or that, but its so close that i'll let it be king. the autofocus is a relevation of filming. it cannot be expressed enough how great it is. When you do the flexi-zone auto focus tracking you can even change the speed of the focus shift. so I like to turn mine about -3 down slower, so all your focus pullls are just nice so slow, seductive and oh so smooth. adds a whole new dimension to one person doumentary film making.
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked the review! And yes, I agree with everything! Haha I need to mess with the speed of AF on mine.
For those who say you can't get good skin tones right out of a sony camera: vimeo.com/157995688
at Viareggio Carnival (italian most famous after Venice one) I just recorded 1000 pictures with 1 battery !!!
with eos 6d which I love.
I have a 10 year old 1D MkII and I can get 9000 shots on the ORIGINAL Canon battery before charging. It's a beast!
Colin Weiss it would be interesting to see a smackdown between the Sony alpha a9 and the canon 1 dx mark 2 :)
When you shoot 1080 120p it is a buffer limit for 7 minutes. Otherwise, all correct. I take it to the waterfalls a lot, totally agree with you.
This is an Excellent review. Can you tell us what lenses you used in your shots?
Thank you! I used a Canon 16-35 for all the wide shots. Sigma 70-200 (for Canon) for the tight waterfall shots.
Currently working on a 60D. Outdated, I know, it gets the job done. But to get to another level, I need upgrades. So I'm planning my next one and I'm stuck in sticking with Canon and getting something like a 5Dmkiii or 5DmkIV or a Sony R7ii. I really don't know what to do right now. Any suggestions?
Great info man. I completely agree. Canon color always brings me back.
some of the information here about the time to fill 128GB card is incorrect! when you shoot 1080p/120fps the time limit is because it was intentionally limited by canon. the regular 25 fps frame rate is limited to 29:59 due to tax restrictions in the EU. this is why the 120 fps is limited to exactly 1/4 of it. (it takes four times as much pictures). it has nothing to do with the size of the card.
Danny Forte need some help.... in 5D mark iv there is also option for 100fps and it exports on 24fps. On 1Dx mark ii there is option for 120fps, it export on 24fps or 120fps ???
export is the same as 5D IV. the difference is that 120fps exports as 30fps.
Danny Forte so does this mean you can shoot for a lot longer with out filling up a card when shooting 120fps? I feel like there's no way you can only record 7minutes total of 120fps before filling the card. Maybe you're limited to 7minutes recording takes, but no way it uses that memory. How the hell does Sam Kolder and many others who use 120fps film on these all day traveling?
Great review ! Love my 1 dx
Awesome review! I did the same thing. Do you use a ronin-m?
If you could pick one canon lense to go with this camera, primarily for landscape photography , what lense would it be please?
Awesome and helpful review, what song is that playing in the opening scene examples shot with the camera? Thanks!
nice rounded vid.
about the build on Sony:
yes not as solid as Canon 1D series but i have dropped both my a6000 and a7r with only cosmetic damage (the a7r fell down about 5 tiled steps outside. thought the sensor would be in bits for sure). the a6300 has yet to be dropped but has a better feel to it already. they've gotta bring out the a9 sometime right?
autofocus in video:
really hope Sony gets cleverer with face detection and subject as the pulling on the slow mode is great and looks very similar to the Canon. think this is both a testament to Sony's handycam and Canon's consumer camcorders lineage. Panasonic might not be able to translate that info to their cameras.
Which canon would I get today in canons line besides the r3 ? For sports mostly
Hi Kidron, great v channel. Could you do a video on how you edit footage with 4k @60fps and get the quality that you like you have in the beginning of this video, the quality is amazing ... thanks, I'm trying to decide between upgrading my Canon 5D MIII to Canon 5D M4 or 1DX M2. If the 4k @60fps is so much better I may go for it. for example for filming weddings / events / etc. I currently shoot alot of video with Sony AX100 4k @30fps but sometimes that quality when down to 1080P doesn't look as good. Thanks,
Thanks for the Info..
How is the Rolling Shutter in 1DX Mark ii when doing Video ???
No problem! I haven't noticed any yet! So it must not be substantial.
Great video!
Thx for making a good review video bro!
Own it, Love it!!! Great review!
Nice job, I love mine as I use it for creating sports highlights.
Love my 1DX II, I don't do much video but this is a great review. Thanks!
Absolutely! Glad you liked it!
Yes, Canon is a Tank!! and Cannon canon!! BOOM!! A7S is a Joke compare to this Tank BOOM!! the tank!!
Excellent review.
Thanks for the all the great info! Will the 1DX MKII work on a pistol grip gimbal or is it heavy?
It would have to be a pretty solid gimbal. But it might. It's a pretty beefy camera. Check out the weight limits on the gimbal, and factor in weight for lens.
Ok, something to consider then. One other question, if you don't mind.. since it does not have an articulating display, have you messed with the Canon App at all? I'm just wondering if you could use that for selfie mode. Thanks again!
Hmm didn't even know there was a canon app! Haha, so nope. Sorry!
great review man...subscribed!!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the sub!
I need advice. Is a 1DxM2 with 24000 release cycles, 2 CFast cards (32/64) and 2 batteries worth it for $4500?
Yeah I'd say so. That seems like a pretty competitive price.
loved the video!!
Is the rear LCD easy to see for outdoors during daytime?
Great review! I'm actually surprised how good the image is for video. I've been looking at the A7sII, and I like it a lot, but the colors look muddled and flat to me, or just off. This camera is putting out some pretty damn good footage for a full frame dslr.
Agreed! I've always loved Canon video. I liked the a7sii alright, great stats and capabilities, but couldn't stand the colors.
Does the 1DXii do full sensor readout or does it do pixel binning?
Thanks for the info!!
Are you able to share the custom color profile that you use?
Amazing review! What do you use for slow motion? IPB or ALLi
All-I for everything!
Kidron Cannon thank You!
Cool video Kidron .Thankyou.
Absolutely! Thanks!
Canon is the best!!!Welcome back!!
Really useful, thanks Kidron. Subbed!
Thanks! Glad it helped!
I would not use knock off batteries with the 1DX Mark to simply because if anything goes wrong with the camera now you can't take it to Canon because they won't honor the warranty, I have to say very nice review I love my 1DX Mark ll
In my menu for picture style in the Sharpness field I have 3 subfields: Strength, Fineness, Threshold. I don't see those two other fields in your video. What values do you give them?
I'm on firmware 1.1.2.
Thank you!
Good question! I guess I don't have the newest firmware. Not sure. I'd keep them low probably
Hi Kidron, I'm a Canon 5DM3 shooter, with some video also considering the 1DXM2, looking forward to seeing some more work and samples. So compared with the SonyA7SII does the quality vs the large file size make it worth it. I'm told compression is much better on the Sony but if you need 4k@60fps can't beat the Canon1DXM2. thanks for sharing,
Hey! Yeah, I definitely recommend the 1Dxii. The file sizes are large but worth it for the quality in my opinion. If you're doing any photography it's worth it over the a7s. And 4K 60 is amazing!
Thanks 4 sharing my brotha. I've just subscribed to channel. p.s. Just a quick question ????...When your editing your photos which software do you use????. Remain Blessed.
Lightroom!
Hey Kidron, I buying a camera within the week. Would you buy the 1dx mark 2 or 5d mark 4? I don't have a budget, which means i can get either one and I own 50 Prime and 70-200 II IS.
Wow! Well personally, I've only used the 1DxII. I love it. As far as specs go, it's better than the 5Div. So I'd go with the 1Dxii. But you need a LOT of storage space and cards.
I learned a lot from this video. Thank you for sharing.
Great! I'm glad you did. No problem.
I agree, canon colors are so much better than anything. My only problem is how long can you shoot for with this camera? Does it have a DC in? sometimes I need to shoot for up to an hour and so I may have to go with something else as a result. but this price point is perfect I don't want to have to go with the c200-c300 just for something like DC power. if the c200/c300 even does that. Thanks for any feedback.
despite 1DX2 being 3 years old it's still the best camera on a market to this day. the only thing that stops me from getting it is that I will also need lot more hard drives, brand new powerful PC and the fact that I don't really need the performance of the beast )
Superb review
Thank you!
HEY GUY ON YOUR WEDDING VIDEO WHERE DID YOU SET THE ISO??
canon is love so spread the good news.very nice review
Heck yeah! Thanks man.
Yes!
Have you tried the A7III/RIII of the sonys?
I was thinking about getting de Mini Ursa, but I don´t think it´s a camera for me. For what I need, this canon does, and I don´t need to buy lots of gadgets to use it.
Can't wait for you to switch to Fuji and make a video about it.
In 2021 I will continue using this as my main Camera body. The latest miiI version hasn't enough to offer for an upgrade for my needs. The 1DX MII is my PREFFERED still camera. The images are amazing so why upgrade to basically the same camere body. I also use 5d mii,5Dsr,5d miv and two 7d mii bodies.
Money aside, 1DX Mark II or the 5D Mark IV? Let's assume a wide range of image and video interests also allowing for ongoing exploration in both areas as I improve my photography skills. I already own two L lenses. Thanks!
Major advantage over a 1D-C, which I could get used for half the price? Also anyone using a Zacuto EVF with either camera successfully? With my Mark III an EVF would heat up the camera and give me some video glitches.
I've never seen a used 1DC for much less than $5500. But the 1Dxii offers 4K 60p. And focus tracking is incredible. Never used a Zacuto with it but it has never gotten hot on me during any use.
I started with canon and now I will upgrade to 1DX MK II
Great video! Thanks man!
