Nuclear War Simulator - First Look

- A first look at the nuclear conflict simulation and visualization tool I am working on. It can be used to visualize large-scale nuclear conflicts and estimate the humanitarian impact.

The video does not show the final state of the simulation and definitely includes several inaccuracies. The scenarios are not realistic, casualties are overstated (the curves must be adjusted), nuclear winter model is not complete, ...
This is a technical demonstration. Please do not use this video as a reference to the actual consequences of a conflict.

While this is unnecessary for what your aiming to achieve, conventional weapons (like armies, and non nuclear naval/air assets) would be very cool, especially for escalating realistically. Regardless, this looks awesome!
There are static conventional targets but no mobile targets yet. Not sure if there will ever be due to complexity.

Luckily i live in an Island close to Africa,in case of Nuclear Winter web will have same temperatures as norway plus no nukes launched there cuz here no silos or strategic bases for nukes
I'm just here to figure out my chances when the Russo-Ukrainian war escalates to WW3...
Sovsem ne ( NONE )
And the result is?
I'd say "poor," but better than "terrible," if you live in a rural area; assuming you manage to avoid too much early fallout somehow. "Poor" in your chances of living >2 years, assuming you want to.
And while I was guessing you're in the USA, it almost doesn't matter what country... US or Russia or Spain or Argentina or Tanzania or New Zealand or China - probably "poor" if you avoid the worst of the initial blasts, thermal and ionizing radiation, the fires and the fallout. If you don't avoid the worst, your prognosis is "terrible," imo.
The absolute worst fates will be bad injuries which are slowly fatal, but which may takes weeks or months of pain to kill; instead of mere hours and days of hell. Those kinds of survivors will def envy the dead...
For those near vaguely possible strategic targets... IMO, it'd be best for everyone there to carry handguns on them at all times these days... for emergency suicides and euthanasia of loved ones, should the time actually come.
As a writer, this makes me so excited

Fantastic work! Can't wait to get my hands on this :)
Lol you sound so evil
Your voice is so relaxing. It's like Nuclear ASMR
Looking forward to seeing this in action. I have been a big fan of Alex Wellerstein's nukemap for years. I am less interested in the strategic aspects of placing launchers and simulating full battles and more interested in the actual explosion. Nukemap is great but it doesn't take into account weather (would be awesome if it pulled in current wind conditions for calculating fallout, available via API from aviation weather services for the US, at least) and geography. I'm in a valley so a blast at the military base 7 miles away likely wouldn't directly affect me except for fallout unless it was a sufficiently high air blast but then distance squared would help a lot. Awesome work! Thanks!
Thank you for your interest in the simulation! Actually, NUKEMAP does take weather into account. As far as I know, the wind direction for fallout is called from meteorological data at the time of use.

I know the point is to raise awareness about the dangers of nuclear weapons, but I'm going to have an absolute ball showering Eurasia in nukes. If only this game had existed 60 years ago, maybe Curtis LeMay would've been in a better mood more often.
Who would have thought this would be topical two years later...
Fantastic!
Just a couple of questions:
1) How much does the software cost to buy?
2) Are we allowed to simulate nukes being owned, and launched, by nations who don't own them yet? ( such as Iran, Japan, Poland, Syria, etc.)
3) are sub-launched nukes simulated?
1. I think it will be free 2. I really hope so 3. Yes
1. I think (and hope) it will be free, to make it easier for people to see how horrible nuclear war can be. (no price has been mentioned...)
2. i think users can place nuclear weapons anywhere, in any nation.
3. Yes, there are submarines, and they only launch nukes, this isn't a conventional war simulator.
You can build nukes for any country you want and creaty any real or fictional scenario. And yes, sub-launched nukes are simulated
Outstanding work
I’ll follow it for sure

I have to make it more clear in the videos.
Let me know if you have any suggestions about what needs to be added to the simulation.
Excellent job, man! This is a horrifying but very real and dangerous topic, but also has science, technical and strategic challenges and effects that are fascinating. Just an idea: If you have Attack Plans you shoud have Reflex Actions (ABM, ASAT, bombers and C&C airborne alerts).
Thank you for the suggestions! There are bombers but no ABM and no airborne C&C yet. It may be added at some point in the future.
Dear Ivan , how can I support on your project? Do you have the simulator compiled for Ubuntu? I am an expert in radiation for space environment. If you like we can exchange a direct contact.
Events of the past couple weeks brought me here…
Can you save and share scenarios?
Yes you can. Otherwise it would be too much work to create the scenarios new every time.
I liked the bit when Paris got cleansed
will there or are there a Discord server for people who want to join and be part of the Simulators community? :)
Not yet, but maybe soon ;)
This looks fun! Can't wait for the biological and chemical expansion packs.
I know i'm asking for too much, but it would be cool to have an economy, and chemical/bacteriological weapons, so then we have different ways to end humanity from nuclear war, to an actual worldwide pandemic
Ar Hent it’s not, if you’re willing to pay for it.
"worldwide pandemic?" Modern medical science has advanced to the point at which so-called "pandemics" are virtually a thing of the past. Trust me--I'm a president.

Wow. Interesting project. Waiting for release
Will the opportunity be added to study the consequences of hypothetical more powerful bombs than non-current ones (for example, an antimatter-based bomb)? Can it be possible to see what will become of the Earth if we take all the nuclear potential?
It was interesting to model it.
The models of nuclear weapons' effects will probably deliver inaccurate results for very high yields as there was little data from such tests to develop these models. You can definitely find out what will happen if we use all uranium and plutonium stockpiles, but you have to spread it on a large number of weapons, don't put it all into one single weapon.

Well done, I understand nuclear war now.
It should be free, not for pay because it neither works good
"Roll your own SIOP". Let's hope that it stays a simulation.
This should be a tool not a game. It should be used to convince political and military leaders why it is so important to destroy all nuclear weapons and to only invest in ballistic rocket defence systems.
This is a tool, it is in the name "A nuclear conflict simulation and visualization tool". Not really a game. The closest thing is probably Universe Sandbox
Time to give this a look.
Как мило Россия стреляет первой постоянно?)
So sweet, but why Russia strikes first?)
His accent sounds vaguely Ukrainian, and there aren't that many ukrainians who both have a decent enough education to make a simulation of a nuclear war and who are not at the same time rabid nationalists
@@Drakyry You wouldn't know a Ukrainian accent if one punched you in the face
Думаю в ядерной войнушке отстреляться первыми это очень выгодно.
Because someone has to start and that the NFU policy of Russia was never clearly stipulated?
I think the Russian *strike of some sort, might be like something that might be a response to say Ukrainian military buildup near Crimea and the east. To what Russia explicitly has said that, it "will use nuclear weapons against any attempts to retake Crimea."
Which seems like a totally legit thing..
I've made a deal with myself. I'm 38 now, and 2 years ago when all of this seemed far away and "unthinkable", i decided that from the point where i turn 40 onwards, life will be nothing but fun. It might actually come true. Just feels like it won't take that long anymore.
