Afterglow 2021
Lyrics:
The scattered pages of a book by the sea
Held by the sand, washed by the waves
A shadow forms cast by a cloud
Skimming by as eyes of the past
But the rising tide absorbs them, effortlessly claiming
They told of one who tired of all
Singing "Praise him, praise him"
"We heed not flatterers, " he cried
"By our command, waters retreat
Show my power, halt at my feet"
But the cause was lost, now cold winds blow
Far from the north, overcast ranks advance
Fear of the storm accusing with rage and scorn
The waves surround the sinking throne
Singing "Crown him, crown him"
"Those who love our majesty,
Show themselves!", all bent their knee
But he forced a smile even though his hopes
Lay dashed where offerings fell
Where they fell
"Nothing can my peace destroy
As long as none smile"
More opened ears and opened eyes
And soon they dared to laugh
See a little man with his face turning red
Though his story's often told you can tell he's dead
I was 12 when this record was released in 1972, Then I discovered Genesis in 1975.
My musical taste was changed forever.
I was 11. A friend at school told me about Foxtrot so I managed to presuade him to let me borrow it, great album great band.
MASTERFUL MY LADS ! HURAH TO THEE ! HUURAAH !
ON SECOND THOUGHT FANTASTICAL TOTTALLY !!!
My favorite Genesis song, done beautifully.
Excellent renditions. One of my all-time favorite Genesis songs. This song is every mellotron lovers dream
Thank you for this superb interpretation of one of Genesis' finest songs.
Loved it - a great song sadly neglected by Genesis on stage (but not by Steve Hackett!). Well done!
Thanks!
My favourite Genesis song of all time , covered amazingly well.....Bravo !!
I am a complete Genesis fan and I am VERY picky about covers but this is a delightful tribute - well done !
❤🇺🇲🇫🇮
This is nothing short of sublime. So rewarding to see artists this talented recreating the modern masters.
Thanks :)
Wow... wow... I never get tired of listening to them, guys, they almost sound like a drug... congratulations again from Argentina!! Genesis for ever!!
Fantastic version of one of my favourite songs!!!

well done.
Thanks!
Great video that does the band and music justice.
Thank you for your words and zing ❤
Nice version. Medievalized with gentleness. Very cool. Italian musician like me loves this kind of oniric sound.
Grazie!
Excellent Keyboard and Guitar play!
Indeed, thank you.
Oh my this is a wonderful listen. To hear a nicely done re-imagining of one of my favorite Genesis tunes makes me appreciate what a great song it is and hearing it in a different way is like hearing it for the first time. That's the beauty of well done covers, nicely done guitar solo, thanks for posting this.
Thank you for your great feedback. Appreciation 🌻
Nice job! 💜 from South Carolina, USA
Thanks man!
Great Cover! You guys play flawless! Congrats!
Gorgeous track and a really superb cover. Congratulations
Thank you!
Nice job, guys!
Beautiful
Thanks :)
Good job, very nice version 👍
Thanks!
Amazing! Love the real deal instrumentation used so well
Superb musicianship all around!!!
Thank you. Great you noticed the original-like backline.
a beautiful presentation of a beautiful song, thank you
You're welcome, and thank you too 🌻
From a big Genesis fan: I loved every second of it. You´ve got what it takes. Talent, hard work. The result is amazing. I must say that I´ve got a soft spot for Can-Utility so I should think I wouldn´t settle for anything but great. Spot on. Cheers.
Thank you Mr. Perez. This was made with love and care for the original with some Northern boost.
One of my top five Genesis tracks and a very decent cover. Tony Banks' keyboard wizardry was crucial to this track, as was the build-up by Hackett's acoustic guitar, and the Afterglow keyboardist and guitarist are close to the original.
Lovely! You are so talented. (From a Genesis-fan who loves all the ”eras”. This is my favourite track from 69-75!
Thank you. P.S. As well! 🌻
Too often this song is played without that series of descending minor arpeggios on acoustic guitar that begins here at 3:50 - to me this is one of the most sublime passages in all of Genesis' repertoire, even though it's done and gone in little more than a few seconds of time.
Very good observation, we really focused on that.
Great cover version guys! I also love all the references to the story of King Knut of Denmark.
Thanks! Can-Utility - can opener - is a pun of Canute (The Great), king of Denmark, Norway and England. He showed to his "flatterers", that Kings have no divine powers against forces of nature. In this case tide.
@@vvalkky Thank you, I knew that Can-Utility referred to Canute, but not that it means can opener.
AWESOME!!!
Thank you!
@@vvalkky Truly a Fantastic video. Please make another Genesis cover!
@@gr.vo.3058 Check out RUclips for example Afterglow plays Hairless Heart / Counting Out Time or Lamia.
Okay...Wow!
Thanks!
Nice one !
Thank you! We appreciate your feedback.
Magnífica interpretação! Parabéns pelo excelente trabalho do grupo!!!
Obrigado, belas palavras de você. Fique atento!
Hyvää Soumi ❤❤❤
Takk.
Excellent rendering and very nice video!
Thanks:)
Aivan upea veto.
Kiitoksia 🌻
Great performance! Thanks on King Knut's behalf , too!
Thank you sir.
Ehm,...actually I'm a man... Daniele is a male name in Italian...
@@danieledaroma1446 Ok. Scusate.
@@danieledaroma1446 Corrected also.
Genesis have been my No. 1 band to me since the 70’s and this is arguably better than the original in my opinion .Absolutely stunning!
Wow! Seems that our vision of this masterpiece is valid 🌻. Thank you Harold.
Good but better than the original? Be serious!
Meinas tulla paskat housuun ku lähti nuo B3(?) bassojalkiot pöriseen.
On muute hemmetin hyvä veto ja soundit kohillaan! Alusta loppuun tuli kuunneltua.
Yhtiö kiittää kauniista palautteesta🔥
Moog Taurus -bassosyntikka on muuten tuo boom.
@@vvalkky aaa ok! L100 hammondista oon tuommoset möhinät joskus saanu aikaseksi ni luulin että hääämmondit ois asialla. Oli mite oli. Kuulostaa hyvältä.
@@viinikellari Hammond B-3 on tietysti myös mukana menossa bassojalkioineen. Taitaa muuten olla päällekkäin. Pitääpä kysyä äijiltä.
Great cover. though "cast" threw me and showed me that we English say "carst" lol.
It needed that really deep bass pedal sound . Still not bad
Thank you man!
That doesn't look like a real mellotron, but sounds pretty close. What is it?
Well, the first appearance is a prop, I think. It is looks like a small organ as found in many homes and chapels - affectionately known as a "salme-cykel" ("psalm bicycle" because many of them had foot-operated bellows) here in Scandinavia.
It sounds like a real Mellotron, or a VERY good sample.
Mellotron parts were played on a VST instrument, using Ableton Live software to make live performances possible. the samples were recorded from real mellotron tapes. Currently I use a free plugin called REDTRON S.E. for live and studio work.
And for the video I used a reed-pump organ, about 100 years old. usign green screen in the studio, I did not need to travel 800 km north to do the recording at the northernmost point of europe...
Biisi ollut unholassa, mutta onpa saavuttanut mahtavan suosion!
Love this song but the vocals don’t come close to recreating Gabriel’s harder edgier sound.
Ok. This was the choice of interpretation. The thing was not to imitate.
I actually really like the vocals. Sounds a bit like Jon Anderson, which is okay in my books!
Interesting version but a bit too laid back for me
Nope!
Ok
I love this tune but this version is severely lacking the guts the original has in spades….which is a bit of a shame as these guys are clearly capable of rocking out if they want to.
This is nothing short of sublime. So rewarding to see artists this talented recreating the modern masters.
Thank you!
