@@pasqualemuzzupappa1991 I love Pye but his vocals could be a little pitchy live compared to Richard. What fantastic footage capturing this brilliant line up that clearly demonstrates the jazz influences of Steve Miller and Richard Sinclair. In my opinion Waterloo Lily is one of Caravan’s best albums and it is a great shame this line up didn’t produce more high quality music like this .
Jan Cremer in the intro. Saw them twice in Paradiso Amsterdam ‘69 and Wheeley festival ‘71. And in 2004 in Lichtenvoorde. Love their first album. Great live band. Glad to see this wonderful concert. Thanks.

Has Richard forgotten the lyrics on Waterloo Lily ? @ 15.35. Sounds a bit muddled... nevertheless an amazing lost masterpiece. Richard is my favourite vocalist and bass player of all time.... I saw Caravan once in 1973 when i was 16 ! Rich had already left by then but was still a great gig.😊 The land of grey and pink is one of my most played albums. I saw Richard perform with Camel several times. Also another favourite of mine. All hail these wonderful musicians - their music will live on forever ❤
This must be early days for him judging by the version of Waterloo Lily here. He certainly seems to be feeling his way. More of a pianist than organist like Sinclair was on the first three albums.
Absolutely disagree as for me Steve Miller’s style was as appropriate as Dave Sinclair’s and as good . I would of liked to hear much more from this particular line up
@@andrewarthurmatthews6685While his electric piano work is very good, the organ is a primary instrument on much of Caravan's music on the first several albums. The omission of the organ is highly problematic without David Sinclair.
Hallo Leute, helft mir bitte, such Informationen über eine LP. Ich habe die Caravan `Waterloo Lily als Missprint und finde nichts im Netz. Weiß jemand was über die LP?
Not with me you’re not ! This line up is one of their finest and captures the band in the most creative and unique period before the over commercial and lightweight song writing dominated and in so doing losing the special essence that was Caravan Shame indeed
The addition of a "The" to the name of the band came courtesy of whoever put this online in 2024. The original broadcast did not contain the mistake. No one has ever called them "The Caravan", a basic check would have been a good idea. The WDR who got them this opportunity back in 1971 are long gone from WDR, and possibly from this planet. Different people - my criticism was denefinitely NOT addressed to them.

Absolutely disagree as in my opinion this line up was one of the very best with both Richard Sinclair and Steve Miller bringing a welcome jazz based approach to Caravan music. Waterloo Lily is up there with For Plump Girls, If I Could Do it , Fairfield Halls and New Sinfonia as superb and unique slices of British progressive rock
@@andrewarthurmatthews6685 Bit of an odd comment as Richard Sinclair was the original bass player, even though he left after Waterloo Lily. Also, Steve Miller never recorded with Caravan and was only a transitional member in between David Sinclair's comings and goings. David Sinclair was the keyboard player for the 1st *six* albums including all the ones you mention. My issue with Steve Miller was that he could never replicate the Sinclair sound using just a rather rinky-dink Wurlitzer A200. All the early Caravan albums were heavily predicated around the sound of the Hammond organ and especially Sinclair's technique of using it through a fuzz pedal. That was the 'Caravan sound' - which Steve Miller could never replicate. 'Nine Feet Underground' on a Wurlitzer? - Yecch. But whatever floats your boat, I guess.
Well although a fabulous line up the performance is not one of their best . There is a definite tentative approach to the songs , maybe under rehearsed or not rehearsed at all! Pye’s guitar playing lacks the fluidity of Richard’s bass
Caravan‘s lead instrument has always been the organ. Pye never even seemed to intend to play a LEAD guitar - but he did, because he‘s the architect of the Caravan sound. He wrote most of their songs…
Richard Sinclair is such an amazing bassist and vocalist.
Okay, but why you , audience, continually name Richard Sinclair and do not appreciate Pye Hastings, his voice and his skilful guitar style?

It is a Wurlitzer 200a, one of the great classics! Also, this is Steve Miller playing it
