Each of their speaking voices has a unique timbre to it. Very pleasing mix to listen to, from wispy to reedy to raspy to clean, lower baritone to higher tenor. And musically, their skill is obvious.
Absolutely, Cuckoo Cocoon wouldn`t be the same without it nor the Musical Box or Get em out by Friday or Supper`s Ready. Even the end of The Lamia has a bit of flute. It was a beautiful added element to their songs.
Blimey! the middle class vs the working class right here. I can't imagine what it was like in the studio for those first few albums after Ant Phillips left and Steve joined. 2 working class oiks against 3 middle class prefects.. still, that qualifies as a fair fight in my book. These five guys had the most profound musical effect on me since The Beatles. The Lamb was already 4 years old when I first heard it as a 16 year old punky type, and it very quickly became my "play every day" album, often twice a day. I didn't know music like that existed, which honestly, before that, I don't think it did. It literally knocked everything else music wise out of my life for a long time. I used to walk around the wintry streets with it playing in my head. The story too, with my leather jacket zipped up against the icy cold wind, just like Rael. I learned to play guitar with this album 40 years ago but I still can't play like (or sound anything like) Steve Hackett. "Here Comes the Supernatural Anaesthetist".... OK, I give up, here's my guitar, amp, strap and fuzz box, I can't do it like him. And as for keyboards... FUHGEDDABOUDIT!! I sold most of them when I understood what being a genius meant (step forward and take a bow, Mr. A. Banks) Great band, copied by a few (early Marillion with Fish was ok) but never ever equaled in my opinion. But hey Guys... Always remember... "Undinal songs urge the sailors on Till lured by the sirens' cry..." Yeah... I know... I know... Thanks for the film @John Edginton 🙂
I was lucky enough to know Amanda gallo their photographer, who at 16 took me back stage on the trick of the tail tour. I met the band as they drifted around back stage. Steve was very quiet and shy but great to chat too, Phil was larger than life and a great laugh I had my photo taken with Phil, Mike total gentleman, and ended up having a sort of argument with Tony about genesis going into a commercial route. I sort of always thought Tony ruled the band and when steve left I never bought another genesis LP. They had lost what made them, their complex musical structures, meaningful lyrics, wonderful guitar parts etc. It felt like the loss of a loved one, it’s hard to explain, like this music I felt connected too was lost to me.
For those worried about Peter and Phil. I saw Pete at his test gig in Bath pre the release of "Car" with Phil playing drums. it was raw, rough and magical. Best of friends.
Mes albums favoris sont foxtrot, Selling England by the pound et The lamb lies down on Broadway ! 🥰

I've seen so many interviews with Peter over the years, and I don't think I've ever seen him break into spontaneous, broad smile laughs. Great to see him happy. Tony's comment, "you're 30 years too late" to Steve was offhand and nasty, and probably speaks to his character.
I think Tony was just being cynical. They all know that he was the cynic in the band. Besides, Tony's a fan of Steve's work. He loves Blood On The Rooftops and he complimented him on Ace Of Wands.
@@aleclewis9123 Interesting . I`ve always been annoyed at Tony`s attitude towards Steve, even if I think the world of him as a keyboardist and a song writer, but to see them both hug at the beginning of this video was a very pleasant surprise. It`s nice to see that they`re not cold to each other.
@@paulcarfantan6688 Despite the disagreements within the band, they really do get along, e.g. Tony went to Steve's 53rd birthday party in 2003. Both of them were even close to re-recording the song The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway for Steve's first Genesis Revisited album. Phil says about Tony and Mike in his autobiography, "Tony and Mike have become more lovable as time goes on, which is the reverse of the traditional rock-band narrative. Tony, formerly rather diffident and difficult to talk to, has become a great friend, funny and witty. He’s a different person, especially with a glass of wine in him. Mike, too, has loosened up." You must remember, Mike, Peter and Tony had stern educational upbringings and Phil came from a drama school, where education was minimal. Steve was also close to leaving the band during the Foxtrot sessions, but Tony and Mike gently sat him down and encouragingly said "we don't want you to leave".
@@aleclewis9123 Very interesting. Re-recording The Lamb would have been something curious to listen to, a bit like their 1999 re-recording of the The Carpet Crawlers. Indeed Tony has mellowed with age which is a good thing and yes that Charterhouse schooling instilled in them a "stiff upper lip" attitude. I remember the three of them saying they were envious of ho Phil could easily joke around and hug someone, since that`s not how you would behave at their school. The last part about Steve is intriguing since I`ve read about eight books in the last 43 years and never heard about him wanting to leave at that time. Good thing they convinced him otherwise, I mean what a guitarist that guy is, such an innovator in multiple guitar sounds. He`s one third of my "Steve trio" of guitarists, along with Howe and Rothery. Cheers.

I was so lucky to have been introduced to Genesis aged 16 (now 62) with ‘And then there were three’ album. Went to them live in Bradford aged 17 and have seen them since many times as a band and individually as well. No other band has such talent in all their members like Genesis.
Amazing how decades have changed them, especially Phil and Peter.
Abrazo.
A melhor banda de rock de todos os tempos, Suppers Ready, the musical box, The knife , só para citar poucas , são OBRAS PRIMAS..
The greatest band ever to walk this planet!
One Hell of a Band!! I regret not seeing Genesis or Yes in concert!!
Great musicians.Great music all over the years
MY ALL TIME HEROES
WITHOUT EQUAL
YET SO CRITIZED
SO UNDERRATED EVER
THOSE WHO KNOW, KNOW WHAT I MEAN, THESE ARE GENUINE BRILLANT MUSICIANS AND UNPARALLELED MUSIC
UNTOUCHABLE IN EVERY WAY
Top shelf talent across the board.
Thanx for your brilliant music, especially Firth of Fifth.
The tallent of these 5 men changed modern music profoundly and influnced so many more performers....Legends All.
Saw Genesis three times,Steve Hackett in 1981 at the Reading Festival, and again 2022 in Genesis revisited, all superb musicians.
Each of their speaking voices has a unique timbre to it. Very pleasing mix to listen to, from wispy to reedy to raspy to clean, lower baritone to higher tenor. And musically, their skill is obvious.
Thanx for all
Geniuses at work 😍❤ Timeless band ❤
It was wonderful
Fascinating insight into history that was a formative part of my childhood.
Great how they all get along,
The flute was definitely a beautiful musical touch in their songs. They write if off as kind of a joke, but it worked very well.
Absolutely, Cuckoo Cocoon wouldn`t be the same without it nor the Musical Box or Get em out by Friday or Supper`s Ready. Even the end of The Lamia has a bit of flute. It was a beautiful added element to their songs.
God Bless you five gentleman. Amazing musicians!!
Blimey! the middle class vs the working class right here.
A. Banks)
Great band, copied by a few (early Marillion with Fish was ok) but never ever equaled in my opinion.
But hey Guys... Always remember...
"Undinal songs urge the sailors on
Till lured by the sirens' cry..."
Yeah... I know...
I know...
Thanks for the film @John Edginton 🙂
Thank you for your brilliant appreciative comments !!
Steve is very far from being an oik
I felt that way when Gabriel left in `75 !
This is so great. Our heros.
For those worried about Peter and Phil. I saw Pete at his test gig in Bath pre the release of "Car" with Phil playing drums. it was raw, rough and magical. Best of friends.
Peter Gabriel was overrated beyond words so quit acting as if Gabriel was god which he was more like the devil and weird as fuc-.
Mes albums favoris sont foxtrot, Selling England by the pound et The lamb lies down on Broadway ! 🥰
I always Hoped for a Reunion Tour of GENESIS...But i knew that Peter had his own Solo ideas ..As well as the other band mates...BUT I'm So HAPPY TO HAVE THEIR EPIC ALBUMS..!! LOVE ALL THEIR WORKS...💯💯💯💯💯💜💜💜💜💜🎧🎤🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🥁🥁🥁🎸🎸🥰🥰🥰🥰
For a guy who's lyrics and demeanor were so cerebral, Peter has a really jovial laugh. Seems like he'd be a lot of fun to hang out with.
Excellent interview, congrats
The very best of the very best for ever.
I've seen so many interviews with Peter over the years, and I don't think I've ever seen him break into spontaneous, broad smile laughs. Great to see him happy. Tony's comment, "you're 30 years too late" to Steve was offhand and nasty, and probably speaks to his character.
I think there was some justification he left at the time when they were rising and to lose an integral part of the band was cruel of Steve I think.
Mike, too, has loosened up."
You must remember, Mike, Peter and Tony had stern educational upbringings and Phil came from a drama school, where education was minimal.
Cheers.
Thankssssss❤❤❤
You're the GOAT!!! PG and friends!!! With love from Galicia.
You mean Phil Collins and friends because they were a bigger band without PG.....
@@AmandaBooth-e6j Well, I think that without PG, Phl and friends.... selling Genesis by the pound- Greetings from Gallaecia!
@@MrENSOGA hate Gabriel's voice reminds me of nails on a chalkboard. Sorry I can't take it Gabriel fans no offense to you all.
@@AmandaBooth-e6j Yes, you're right. I'm a huge PG fan. But you know, I have all the Genesis albums without PG and the first three Phil Collins albums and one Mike and the Mechanics album...on vinyl, of course. I'm loyal to the good people. Greetings from Gallaecia😉
@@Espejo-hv2nz sorry I did kind of go off. Oops 🤐
For you thinking there is an issue between peter and phil. Look at Peter eagerly laughing at Phils jokes. Phil and Pete are probably the best friends there
Maybe they came in together and didn't need to greet again. Who knows.
@@kurtnovells
I think the same
Unos verdaderos genios y un gran placer verlos reír juntos. Su música perdurará por siempre.
Together fantastic❤❤❤❤😊
So much talent and creativity and this band
i loved them all..solo and in bands.
Pete is such a kind and humble guy, and seems quite easygoing. I think I would enjoy having a beer with him.
Viva Genesis‼️✌️
Sad to think we won't be seeing Phil and guys again on tour😂
One of the best bands on my list wow
the who, king crimson and jethro tull as well
I have every album from Genesis as well as every solo album from each member. I would scour the credits for who played on their albums and would often seek them out as well.
I Love this band songs .thank you for influence In all the Music universe. 〰️〰️🟠🔭
