As a LLY owner myself, this is a great video, extremely useful! All DIY videos should be this good! So glad I didn't have to listen to 20 minutes of how your cat puked up hair balls or why you think the dealership is ripping you off. I'm a subscriber!
I really enjoyed your video, plain and simple, no talk , self explanatory, sharp images, well explained., I'll be putting it in my RUclips channel to help others out. Thank you..
Heard of you from CCF didn’t realize you were so well versed, fantastic video very intuitive, hands down best formatting and demonstration of injector removal. Thank you
So ive got an lly also I need to do my piston 2 injector and they are after market I have no clue about them would they have a part number or something on them so I can get the exact injector ? Because guy on the phone said I might have to do redo all 8 of em if I didn't know
Thank you for posting! I just subscribed. How many hours labour would it take to replace all 8 would you figure? I have an 06 LLY express cargo van with about 200,000km.
No Powerstroke just a 5.4 I know the worst I could have is a blown spark plug and I’ll deal with that when that happens But you a great job at you video a lot of peopl just talk and talk, you just go right to business 👍
Blown spark plug, timing chain failure, chain cover failures, cam phaser failure, oil sludging, 5.4L Fords have quite a few common issues. Yea, luckily I've never liked the sound of my own voice, so quiet time for the viewers. Lol
Youll have to tap it if it broke off flush with the engine block. If there is enough threads sticking out of the block, try to get 2 nuts on it and use 2 wrenches to tighten them together. You will be able to use a socket to get it out after that.
Doing this now didnt know how the injector clip peice for the injcetor wire on top came out watched this went out and came right out! Cleaning and replacing o rings on mine
Hey that intake heater controller module near the fire wall on the gmc I'm trying to figure out where the ground white goes too i hooked all three wires right but I out have a black wire left which is the 4th black wire I forgot where it bolts too it's an 2003 gmc 6.6 diesel 2500 I did the injectors
No. Not on an LLY. Don't have to touch coolant on any Duramax, aside from the LB7, and that's only if the injector cups come out with the injector. You don't have to program the injectors until LMM, LML, L5P as far as I know. LBZ might have coding, but don't have first hand experience.
All the research I have found states the new injector has to be programmed to the ECU. Am I wrong? I do enjoy watching your videos. I have an 05 LLY SLT.
whats an egr air inlet pipe 😁 225k trouble free miles on my LLY, same injectors and the whole nine, only thing I did at 100k was #2 and 7 i ice picked the connecting harness
Very detailed video and excellent views! My LLY is down to the last three injectors which are coming out soon due to knocking/high balance rates. I'm getting my injectors from my local Bosch dealer but was wondering if there is anything that needs to be done electronically after replacement? Thank you again for a great video.
Nice video. I know this was posted quite a while ago but do you remember the mileage when you did this? Also, did you check the balance rates to check the health of the other injectors?
I know this is 4 months ago but 1 and 7 are common injector problems for the injector harness itself because of the bad angle the wires are sitting at the pull and fray therefor cause it the injector problems you can order new extended harness too fix this problem also look at ice picking them
Almost makes me want to do my own head gaskets.... ALMOST!!! I have an 05 LLY. Just did the water pump and radiator. After watching your awesome video, I almost want to tackle the head gaskets myself. A shop is going to charge me over 5000 bucks to do it. It's a great video. Thank you!! BTW...are the injectors on my 05 as easy to do as yours or is it a different setup?
@@vacayooper4728 That's what I'm told. I ended up finding someone to do my head gaskets and I did the ARP studs. She's good to go. Found a guy that did it and it only cost me $2,300 with parts. He did a great job and many other things on the truck. I also had my injectors done with Lincoln Diesel 45% over injectors and CP3 pump.
First of all great video, what are your thoughts on replacing injectors, should there only be an issue with a single injector and fix it, or replace all?
Depends on money ans diagnostic ability. I replaced injector 7 about 3 months before I filmed this video. Believe this was injector 3. Haven't had any issues since until last week. Had a little injector knock. Ran a tank of injector cleaner through it, but most likely another injector is failing. It's recommended to replace them in sets, but since it's my labor, I'll keep stringing out the costs, 1 by 1 until the set is replaced.
@@MrSubaru1387 I'm not familiar with this diesel. Only worked on the 6.5TD. And you were supposed to change those injectors every 100k miles. Pretty much like spark plugs.
my lly has 345k miles im the 2nd owner bought it at 300k had 2 injectors replaced early and head studs at 180k well maintained truck im about to do a s366 60 overs 12mm cp3 and built trans. gonna be around 700hp :)
I used a combination of brake clean and a vacuum cleaner. Sprayed carbon in the bore, ran an extension into the bore with a rag wrapped around it. Once broken free, I used a small adapter in the vacuum and tapped straws to the tip and ran the draw in the injector bore to remove the debris.
@@DLEWIS488 there is a special injector puller, but I've found that putting a screwdriver, or small prybar under the hold down clamp, and pushing, will usually pop them up and out of the bore.
158k. I've had it about two years now. Haven't had many issues at all. Had to repair a rusted brake line. Replaced two injectors. Had to catch up maintenance that the previous owner neglected.
LB7 is the first Duramax. 2001-2004.5 injectors are under the valve cover on LB7. All newer Duramax engine models have the injectors going through, not under the covers.

I wish I saw this before I started working on mine, I thought it was the same procedure as an lb7 so I took apart half the top 😅 great vid man
You're a bad man! Awesome video tech look forward to watching you more!
This is an amazing video. Very well done thank you
What is that scan tool your using? I have been looking for something that allows more in depth diagnostics.
Did you presoak this injector with penetrant prior to pulling it. That one came out EASY!!

Is it not necessary to bleed, or relieve the pressure on the fuel system prior to removing the high pressure fuel line?
No, let it sit for a few hours and go. Once the HPFP isn't pumping, pressure bleeds fairly quickly.
@@MrSubaru1387 Thank you very much!

Not that I'm aware of. Straight replacement.
Do you have anything on the power steering pump for a 2004 outback
Do you have to depressurize the fuel system before undoing the high pressure lines?
No.
That fuel pump housing looks extra clean. Did you change that prior to chasing this bad injector out?
The filter head? Yes. It was rusty and leaking air.
Do you have to use a tech 2 tool to balance oem Bosch injectors after install?
Not on an LLY.
Nice video. I know this was posted quite a while ago but do you remember the mileage when you did this? Also, did you check the balance rates to check the health of the other injectors?
150-160 mile range. The root cause ended up being a shorted FICM harness at the alternator bracket.
Did u have a misfire? I have a misfire on my Chevy and idk where to start the codes are p0301 p0306 anyhelp?
P0301 and P0306 are cylinder 1 and 6 misfire.
What crows foot size did the high pressure lines use?
17mm.
Good Day, how did you pop the injector loose? Do you prefer a certain removal tool? I don't believe it was in your video, or maybe I missed it?
These came out easily, just used a small prybar between the hold down clamp and the rocker cover.
A flat punch or a pry bar will
Pop me out pretty easily
What is the Snap On model number of the ratchet you used to remove the injector? FL80?
Yes, FL80.
This question is for anyone
Is it normally or sometimes happen at 175k for a cylinder 1&7 misfire
I know this is 4 months ago but 1 and 7 are common injector problems for the injector harness itself because of the bad angle the wires are sitting at the pull and fray therefor cause it the injector problems you can order new extended harness too fix this problem also look at ice picking them
Recently had cylinder 7 drop on me. Limp mode. Bad pigtail. Have a video on the fix.
What are your thoughts on rebuilding injectors or taking injectors out of another lly with alot less miles?
I'd rather a new or newly reman. Lot of work to throw a high mileage used in and have it fail soon and have to do the job over again.
Almost makes me want to do my own head gaskets....

Snap-on ZEUS
Great video! found it vary helpful. I did notice that you did not drain the radiator, is this not necessary on the LLY?
Cooling system doesn't have to be touched for injectors. LLY - current.
MrSubaru1387 That’s what I thought, I wasn’t 100% sure.
WHAT WEARS THE INJECTORS OUT OIL CHANGE NOT DOING IT OR OVER TIME AND MILES
I've never had one come out that easy😢

BWD = Broken With Delivery.... at least it has been my experience. Any chance the other injectors may die soon?.
I've replaced #8 and #3. I'm sure the other 6 aren't too far behind. They're all the same age with the same mileage. All original 155k miles.

Good in depth vid but at this point i would throw that egr crap as far away as possible and delete it. I did.
What is that “crows foot” tool? What size is it?
A crow's foot is basically a wrench cut down and turned into a socket. I believe the fuel lines are 17mm.
MrSubaru1387 how did you clean the injector bore? I think mine is very dirty?
I used a combination of brake clean and a vacuum cleaner. Sprayed carbon in the bore, ran an extension into the bore with a rag wrapped around it. Once broken free, I used a small adapter in the vacuum and tapped straws to the tip and ran the draw in the injector bore to remove the debris.

Not entirely sure they're related. But odd that it happened right after replacing them.
That’s what I said now I can’t take the key out the ignition
Wasn’t that the new intro scene?
It was. One of them.

How much is each oem injector?
Depends on where you get them. Usually $300-500/each with a core charge.
Is there any computers work coding? Anything?
No.

Lb7 must be newer? Ive got a 03 and that's though the valve covers right?
