- Here is a quick tutorial of how to remove a deep treble hook from your skin. Tim was picking up a Tactical DD Crankbait when the Size 2 treble lodged deep in his palm. While this is never fun, the removal process can be quick and relatively painless if you know what to do.

@@tacticalbassin years ago, I had a gold spoon stuck in my big toe fishing down in florida bay, it was real bad and I didn’t know what to do. Our options were yank it out or end our trip early and head to a ER. I didn’t know about this trick then , and ended up just pushing down on the spoon while yanking it out with pliers it took a couple tries but finally came out. Wrapped it up in a towel and kept fishing. My father and I both slammed snook and reds that day not to mention our limit on trout

It will happen, I've only had it happen once. Last year, on the first cast of the morning I caught a 6lber on a Damiki D pop, and I could barley see. I went to grab the bait, and the back treble was hooked in the fish mouth and in my thumb.

Man, this is so much better than how I've been taught before. I was told to wrap the line around the hook 3 times, but the one time I've had to use this it was with a size 12 ish treble in the hand of an 86 year old man. The hook flew a good ten feet and almost got sat on

Same cause had a treble like this past the barb in my finger and I couldn’t get that just eventually cut the treble hook down enough to just pull it through. And honestly didn’t hurt surprisingly
@@LovingDeantheGodMachine333 I've had a similar experience except one of the trebles was in my finger, 1 in the fish and 1 in my anchor rope. Ended up just cutting the rope and fishes head off and had no pliers on me so I had to drive in with a lure in my finger with a fish head attached to it. But yeah all the pain goes away once you pull the hook through, it's more relieving

It’s apart of being a fisherman most of their hand have a thick layer of skin but not calluses bc they’re hand heal and instead of calluses forming it makes the skin tuff which is y there was no blood

The first best thing is to wear gloves. An ounce of prevention & all that jazz. The biggest problem yanking out a hook is that it can hook into something or someone else. Wear safety glasses if you're yanking it out. I prefer to keep a med kit & a razor. All you need is a slight incision where the barb is and the hook pretty much falls out. Doesn't require 2 people and heals faster because you didn't rip the skin during removal. Less chance of infection, plus this works anywhere on the body except the eye. Or yank it.

@@jtotherog nerve pain ain’t no joke I slept on the hardwood floor after drinking all day and I slept for prolly 15 hrs on my leg and cut circulation off. My foot swelled up huge couldn’t walk right for months. At night it would burn it felt like my foot had hot coals inside of it and not shit I could do about it

Im worried if the cut on the hook produces metal dust that may get caught in the wound when the rest of the hook is pulled back through the wound. Not sure if its just a paranoia

I had always figured if this happened to me i would cut just the hook that is in me, away from the other 2 then force the barb all the way out in a loop motion. this seems so much better

it depends on where and how the hook sits. If I had done that when the hook was in my finger, it would have been so damaged that I would have lost mobility in the finger.

After removing a couple hooks from bro, a doctor showed us this exact technique. So hooking himself wasn't good enough, apparently, lol, and when he hooked me one day, my dad used this to remove it from my knee.😂

I worked at a EMT BASE for yrs and we had a man come in w a hook through his thumb muscle. They told him the only way to get it out was the way it went In 😮. “Medical tape” bout the same way you tied the thread, and pull. Came out w alittle meat on it

my brother was unlucky enough to get a hook through the bone of his finger... attempting to hook it in a loop on the rod with it already under tension, happend so dang fast... i could even get a warning out...
took him to the hospital... it was not fun... no matter how they tried to numb it... there was no easy way... you could hear him screaming ...

You may want to use some ice to numb the area before pulling out the hook. I used Ice first but had the hook in my finger and just pushed it through and cut off the loop. All depends on the angles. Good info!
Now it's in there, might as well make a video about removing it... It doesn't get really fun, until it goes through a nail first, and then into the fingertip.

This is why I pinch my barbs on new lures if I am too lazy to trade them out for barbless. Getting hooked is awful. Never again. Had one super deep that ended up under my thumbnail. I had to go to the doc because the hook of the treble was nearly all the way in, there was no way to get it out other than brute force. He injected so much novacaine I didn't even know I had a thumb anymore. Didn't feel a thing when he pulled it out. Was costly, sure, but dammit it was worth it.

My Grandmother would push the barb back through the skin and use wire cutters to snip the hook above the barb. OUCH!!!!

When I did that it was too deep so I had to push it through to the other side and cut off the barb then slide it out. Honestly I thought everyone did it that way...
I had remembered from my youth to push the hook through, cut off the barb with a cutter, then pull it back through and out without the barb. This way seems way better. Does anyone remember the method i am remembering??

Sounds like my Dad, he had a hook buried deep in his hand , I tried to get it out and couldn't, he took his pocket knife and cut it out and we went on fishing, He was a WW2 vet, those men were made of special metal.
I had a triple treble hook Rapala 6 or 7" long meant to look like a shiner or sardine if in salt. I was young maybe 13+/-, mom and I came home was time for bed and couldn't find my dog, a little Yorkie and we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment not really anywhere for him to go couldn't hear him or anything, after a few minutes we found him thru his lips, paw, and a comforter he was on reason we couldn't find he was stuck and couldn't yelp, emergency vet sucked because they had to sedate him.

If u look closely that one doesnt have a barb on it. I assume he snipped it or it snapped thru regular wear and tear. I am however impressed that even without the barb he was willing to commit enough to put it in his hand at all.
