This video is the first in a series on keeping a stay at home travel journal because just because we are not traveling these days doesn’t mean that we can’t keep a creative, cool record of our days, especially through these crazy days. So today I want to show you what I keep in take-along art kit.

When I first discovered illustrated journal keeping I was told that the first, number one rule was - never go anywhere without your portable art kit on you. If you do this, if you are ready to work at any time. I am rarely without my supplies which means I can make pages in coffee shops, dr’s offices, parks, wherever I find myself. So let me introduce you to my portable art studio.
    • Waterbrushes (I use Pentel)
    • Variety of fineliner pens
    • Pencils
    • White gel pen
    • Bamboo dip pen
    • Scissors (mine are Cutter Bee)
    • Pencil sharpener
    • Eraser
    • Palette
    • Portable watercolour kit
    • Bag with pockets
Here are the links to some of the items I rely on. Note, I am not paid by any of these companies.

"But basically, yeah. I take this everywhere." is pretty much me everytime my partner and I leave the house and he's eyeing all the art supplies I'm stuffing in my bag.😂

Ain't it the truth. I didn't say so in the video but I have all but sprained my back toting this stuff around: "Just one more pen. Oh, and this stamp. And this stencil. And....." 😁

I love a messy, lived in, used art travel kit! I always see videos of pristine kits and feel a little anxious because if I had something g so fancy and pricey, I’d forever be worried about splotching it up! I have a couple of leather travelers notebooks and after awhile I ended up purposely distressing and adding ink drops so I would be free! 😂.

Yes! Exactly. My most recent video is all about preparing an intimidating pristine blank book so that you have permission to make a mess and be perfectly imperfect. But I have had bad luck when flying with fountain pens. Don't even ask me about what happened when I had one in the pocket of a white jacket. 😎

Hi Elise. Maybe it is my nonspecific accent that comes from being raised in Mississippi but having lived in Britain for almost 20 years? Combined with utter stage fright that I have when I press the red button to start filming. Whew! 😉😁

Thanks, Kelly. You’re chocked full of great practical details and advice. I’m migrating away from my summer studio on the River for a few months and was sleepless thinking about how to carry it all on my back. Ta da!! 🐢🐢🐢

Wow, this is just what I want to hear! I take that bag everywhere - even to church and once to a funeral; pretty sure that God does not disapprove. Bon voyage!

i love this travel bag! I've been looking for something that was just the right size and then wondering what exactly to put in it that would give me everything i need when I'm out and about. i have all the supplies and then some, but want to narrow it down. can your art journal or paint pad/sketchbook fit in your bag with everything else in it? and do you carry your traveling kit in a separate tote, or do you carry it all in a giant shoulder bag? I'm trying to eliminate extraneous weight to keep my bag healthy, so I'm always talking to people about what/ how they carry their goodies. Thank you, as always!💗

Hi Robyn, funny you should ask because I am making a video for this week of What's In My Carry On Bag, as I am flying to France on Friday and need to be prepared for anything (airlines hate us) and NOT do my back or shoulder in. When I am actually there and taking my art kit to draw in cafés and churches, I have a light-weight backpack. Also, I try to have a thinner sketchpad with paper covers to pinch hit if the hardback one gets heavy. So basically backpack - art kit, sketchbook, notebook, phone, and that's it.

Hi Demi and thank you! I have been thinking of doing a studio tour. Maybe I should start with something smaller such as just a browse of the art supplies. Funny, for a lot of time I didn't have much money and bought one, little thing at a time, but it grew and grew. But I love it all so.😸🌞🌞🌞

Where can I get a brush like that? 2ended one.

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  3 года назад +1

Hi, Kathy. Not sure which one you mean since I don't use double-ended ones (must look like it, though). If it is a waterbrush, you can buy them online or in any craft store. I use them ALL the time. If you want a double-ended brush, you can buy watercolour markers that have a fine point on one end and a broader brush on the other. Let me know if I can clarify! 😊
