King George II despite having so many illnesses torturing him for most of his life (apparently the accurate number is 23) he genuinely loved his country, and suffered a lot trying to be a great king, doing a far greater work than most pathetic prime ministers today that couldn't care less about Greece's actual problems. It's just that in Greece there was also the official "purified" language called Καθαρεύουσα (Katharevousa) until the 80s, but this song is supposed to be a popular song which is why it has Δημοτική (Dimotiki) dialect, the dialect spoken by common folk. Greek is a pretty conservative language, so anywhere between 1000AD and today, the spoken variation in modern Greece, Cyprus, the Ionian coast of Anatolia and the coast of the Dardanelles (plus European Turkey and and parts of the Bulgarian coast and modern day Southern Albania) can be considered a form of Modern Greek. This is evidenced by numerous poems and νανουρίσματα (children's sleep songs) from back in the Byzantine Empire even before Manzikert that still exist today.

I miss having our monarch, besides the WWI king but when we got the last two kings things looked much better. I miss king Constantine though he let the Junta happen. I loved our system before where we were democratic with the prime minister and had our king as our symbol. The KKE hated the king since they where communists and we had a civil war in the 1940s after WWII ended I also hated the puppet government the west set up as they murdered innocent Greeks for suspected of being communist. I like Greece independent from the east and west and have its own identity.

The WWI king was horrible I’d say. He went against our prime minister and was going to side with the ottomans through the Germans a enemy of Greece. It's just that in Greece there was also the official "purified" language called Καθαρεύουσα (Katharevousa) until the 80s, but this song is supposed to be a popular song which is why it has Δημοτική (Dimotiki) dialect, the dialect spoken by common folk. Greek is a pretty conservative language, so anywhere between 1000AD and today, the spoken variation in modern Greece, Cyprus, the Ionian coast of Anatolia and the coast of the Dardanelles (plus European Turkey and and parts of the Bulgarian coast and modern day Southern Albania) can be considered a form of Modern Greek. This is evidenced by numerous poems and νανουρίσματα (children's sleep songs) from back in the Byzantine Empire even before Manzikert that still exist today.

I miss having our monarch, besides the WWI king but when we got the last two kings things looked much better. I miss king Constantine though he let the Junta happen. I loved our system before where we were democratic with the prime minister and had our king as our symbol. The KKE hated the king since they where communists and we had a civil war in the 1940s after WWII ended I also hated the puppet government the west set up as they murdered innocent Greeks for suspected of being communist. I like Greece independent from the east and west and have its own identity.
Really sad. My family hated the king but they were never threatened by him and his presence. The junta hunted them down, not the king, even though they had all fought for the KKE in the civil war
