Considering the 357 is a pistol round and the others are all full size rifle rounds, I would say the 357 did a very good job and is an outstanding choice for situations under 250 yards and lets face it, most hunting conditions fit that criteria.
Also considering that Rossi shoots 44 mag, it'd be even better

And that was with the softer loaded S&B 7.62x54. the surplus stuff was hotter. S&B is better than brown bear though. Brown bear is like throwing that bullet down range by hand.

Vous devriez essayer une ogive de 180gr pour la .308 et la 7.08 car la masse de l'ogive influence sur la penetration et je pense que si la 7,62x54R penetre autant c'est aussi du a son ogive plus lourde.
invalid test. the top of the plates were bending with shots, the lower plates were not.
the correct test would be to make plates held in the top and bottom with similar brackets or better yet, get separate plates, a 4 sided holder and shot one bullet at a time.

Fyi he wasn't using the original mosin nagant 7.62x54R ammo he was using the typical fmj. Mosin nagant would've had better results out of all 4, but it's whatever.
Everything is right. If he had used an LPS bullet with a steel core, the penetration would have been much greater

Bonjour Patrick et bravo pour cette très bonne vidéo!!!Quand j'ai vu la 7,62 j’étais a peut près sûr que ce serais la plus performante!!Surtout si c'est une munition de surplus!Le bombé sur la tôle la plus épaisse le laisse voir nettement!Par contre je ne sais pas a qu'elle distance tu te trouvais de la cible,car souvient toi,je l'ai démontré dans les deux vidéos de tirs sur les bouteilles,pour la pleine puissance il faut au moins être a 25 mètres!!Même le 22 lr s'est montré légèrement plus puissant!!Par contre la Mosin a été impressionnante par rapport a la première vidéo!!!En tous cas super vidéo Patrick!!Merci.Christian.
Christian Chevillot ne pas oublier la.munition de surplus prévu aussi pour mitrailleuse donc de la grosse charge en 308 de surplus j'ai eu de la bonne pénétration mais pas tant donc le 7.52 mosin bien supérieur

Christian Chevillot n'oublie pas le facteur vitesse car les manufacturiers c.limite trop souvent a une simple formule mathématique pour les joules qu'elle bêtise la balistique et une discipline complexe balistique de pénétration .... les fmg c'est vraiment l'excellence n'oublions pas le côté destruction matériel... au détriment du pouvoir arrêt... J'ai fait des essais en 22 lr long z donc sans poudre jusqu'à 25m je trouve cela excellent car ayant aussi de vieilles arme en 22lr cela abime pas la mecanique. tu as bien vu mes essais en 17hmr vraiment interessant. j'essai de faire des montages pour mettres mes videos en ligne c pas évident. je t'appel dès que possible pour savoir ou en sont tes préparatifs pour le four lol

Re, en faite la vitesse maxi d'un projectile non propulsé est la vitesse initiale a la bouche du canon , en linéaire et rotation , la charge , la longueur du canon, etc , influe sur cette vitesse, ensuite un fois sortie du canon la vitesse de l'ogive et donc ça puissance décroit

Pour les armes longues comme sur cette vidéo la distance de 200 a 300 m donne le même résultat que cette essai
Mais j’ai mis une tôle de 5 mm sur la vidéo pour arrêter les ogives, je pense que une dizaine de tôle supplémentaire seraient percés

Good old 308 is the winner. Plus you can find 7.62X51 in AP, AP tracer, AP incendiary, tracer incendiary and so on, that's a big plus.

Yes you can tell the top shots caused flex as the holes gradually rose towards the end. This means they we're piercing at a slight angle of deflection, effectively going through more metal.
Panel flex at top, more rigid at bottom... plus it seems that the barrel length for the revolver was less than for the pistols bullet weight in grains should also be consistent or close. No Way is a 9mm more effective than 357 magnum

@@dajiban9325 the reason for that is because it's losing energy and denting the plate more, rather than punching through it. Look how much bigger the 357 bulge gets before it falls short.
The steel core ammunition famously belonging to the 7.62x54R is got a tight pattern but also out performs pretty much all of the remaining ammunition types that guy was using.
But although. He wasn't using the steel core he was using the fmj ammo but could have better out comes than the rest.

People will compare 70 year old 7.62x54r or cheap ammo against new production .308 and claim better results but they will not use 60 year old 7.62x51 against Norma or RWS 7.62x54r
Just so everyone knows, 7.62x54 is fairly close to the old american .30-06. That round has been around a long time in the United States. 308 Winchester essentially replaced 30-06 because they were so close in performance that I guess the Army deemed 30-06 irrelevant anymore. I know a ton of people that still hunt with old family heirloom .30-06s though, so I wouldn't call it irrelevant. Close, but not irrelevant. .30-06 is 7.62 x 63 mm. It's a very under-rated but still semi popular round.

I have a carbine in the caliber of 7, 62x54. A killing machine, especially with an SP bullet and a mass of 203 grains. It's like a sledgehammer. I shot a boar about 200 kg this year, hit the shoulder blade, lay down on the spot without making a step, pulled a little with my back leg and lay still. the cartridge was developed taking into account that time, it had to reliably hit the horse, then there was a cavalry.
Many guides in Alaska use Mosins in case of brown and or polar bears. There is a reason.

Great test! Which one do you think preformed the best? Cant really tell much difference between the 7.08, 308 and 7.62x54r, looks like they all stopped at the same spot. Also what types of ammo were you using? I saw the projectiles in the beginning, but where they 150 grain or 180 etc, and where they hand loads? Thanks for the information.

Моя мосинка за 200-300 баксов произведенная в 43 году и омытая кровью фашистов и доказвыша на деле свою надежность и не прихотливость будет также эфективно делать дырки как и суперкрутая тикка за 1000 слишнем баксов.
Да тикка в пластике легче, несомненно точнее, 308 более современнен и отсутвие ранта в данном случае плюс и 308 как охотничий боеприпас распространнен по миру больше чем 7.62. Но у вас бабок на неё хватит? Дай бог чтобы было да. Я таки совремнем прикуплю себе болт в 308. И возможно тикку.
Помните, что 7.62x54р делался как боеприпас военного назначения, а не как охотничий патрон.
Также стоит помнить, что 308 (гражданский патрон) и 7.62х51 НАТО это два разных патрона, с разными допусками по давлению.
Сечас в охотсреде присутвует тенденция прехода в большие калибрам: 300 вин маг и пр.
ИМХО в тесте забыли указать:
* марку стали
* массу пули (коли она была извлечена)
* навесту пороха (пуля таки же извлечена)
+ выкиньте из теста недоразумение росси и добавьте старину маузера
Вообще уже давно существует таблицы и цифры зачастую подтверждаются на практике если - что-то где то "не бьётся" значит какие-то факторы отличаются. Против физики не попрёшь.

Je pense que les trois munitions se valent, mais il faut que je refasse un test avec des données différentes ,c'est en court, et j'espère pouvoir faire un tiercé dans l'ordre des puissances avec ce nouveau test plus afiné
Pour le moment la seule qui ai vraiment parlé c'est le 357 magnum, bloqué en tôle huit , par contre le 7.08 lui, à le plus fort tôt de pénétration avant le 308 et le 7.62
la Vitesse était de 820 m/s pour le 7.08 à 2 m
Par contre le rechargement en poudre des munitions est en limite haute des tables Vita, plus puissante que les munitions manufacturés standard et surplus
Oui mais j'ai un petit doute sur la blindée de surplus en 7,62 car vu l'état des gongs a 50 mètres(acier 3cms épaisseur et complètement fissurés dès le premier impact)je suis un peut sur la tangente!A savoir que la munition viens de stocks Chinois!Mais bon les scores sont tout de même bien serrés!!Bravo Patrick pour ce test et cette très bonne vidéo!!

Shit man, I wouldn't want to get hit by any of those... Damn. I think the worst would be getting hit by that 357, that was a hell of a big hole and a person would bleed out sooner. The penetration by the other three was impressive, either way, you get hit by one of those 4 you are in a serious world of hurt. I would go with the 357 for knock out power, chances are the other rounds would just pass through ya.
Real rifle cartridges are MUCH deadlier. Yes the 357 sort of approaches rifle cartridge ballistics, but still doesn't have the velocity. Around 2600 fps, things change dramatically.
