  • Since the timing doesn't seem quite right, lets make sure the information we are working with is correct. How do we make sure the timing tab and the mark on the balancer line up? Why, by making our own piston stop and sticking a timing tape on it!

    The supercharger doesn't "blow the spark out", thats one of those common misconceptions. The higher density air in the cylinder has higher resistance, making it harder for the spark to jump the gap.

      Oh, good to know! I'll have to do more research on that, just repeating what I heard in many places!

    plugs look to be pretty hot range

      8hour They are Accel heat range 6, should be cool enough for this mild setup. I can only fit shorty plugs with these headers so it's a bit trickier to find them, too

    be careful. with angle plug heads and higher lift cams this is a great way to slam a valve into the stop. your method is fine, just remove the rockers off both #1 cylinder valves. nice video.

    I would use a device that would rise as the piston comes up and drops as the piston goes down, I would never want to use a solid stop that could hit a piston. You could probably making something spring loaded with markings to guage movement.
    I know you were careful, just my opinion I wouldn’t want to marr a piston

    I wonder if the old crank balancer was from the stock 305 the car came with from the factory?

    Alright it’s dumb question time…When using a piston stop, how do I know how far down I should set the bolt on the stop, to stop the piston at the top of its stroke?

    Why you no heat wrap your headers?

    Didn't you relocate a timing mark in an earlier video? Did that adj. difference need to be transferred to the balancer?

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  5 лет назад +1

      The adjustment was made based on the timing tape, it was put on slightly off from the mark so the zero on it is the true TDC, the mark on the balancer is close but not what is now used to time the engine. I tried to bend the timing tab a little to correct the reading but it didn't seem like it would give me the best reading. The previous mention of it (I believe) was because the balancer it came with had the timing mark in a different location than the timing tab on the timing cover, and I needed a new mark (or tape) to zero it properly and accurately time it.

    a aftermarket ballancer is way better and on chevy heads people will sell you to short of a plug also . im talking about how long the threaded part is on older 624 heads the threads ar about a inch long on newer heads they are about a half inch long so look at the threads. and colder plugs with a receidedpoints of spark probaly two steps colder is helpful.

      Alonza Hanks I'm pretty sure they're right, but good call, I'll check the thread depth on the heads. They are a few steps colder than normal plugs (Accel #6) but it's a little hard to figure out what "normal" heat range is.
