- Welcome to the first of hopefully a long series of travel vlogs! These videos will continue to evolve as I go through my old footage and film new experiences, but I really am very excited for the future of this channel with these new types of vids and I hope you will be too! Back on November 15, 2020, I had the remarkable luck of the draw in getting assigned Southwest's desert gold "Herbert D. Kelleher" jet. There's nothing really special about the inside of the cabin, but seeing a Southwest jet painted in their retro gold look from the 80s and flying on it was just super cool! Southwest has come a long way since then but has still maintained it's cool, unique, and friendly style that keeps people coming back time and time again. Hope you enjoy the video!

I started flying Southwest in 1983 when this livery was the norm. I also got to hear Mr. Kelleher give a talk about leadership at my then place of employment (M.D.Anderson Cancer Center). It was entertaining as well as illuminating, and I could tell this man had charisma to burn. I’m looking forward to more videos in your new formats-this one was great!
The old Southwest livery is reminiscent of that of the Gold Leaf Team Lotus F1 cars of the late '60's.
That livery brings back memories! I'll never forget my first ever Southwest flight in 1996 LAX-ABQ, back when that Desert Gold livery was the norm. Before that, I had only ever flown on board 747's on international long-haul flights, so imagine my "cabin shock" when I first stepped inside a 737 for 2-hour flight.
- Red
SWA flew to Omaha starting in 1995
Flew this plane from Mco to BUF
This livery looks great on both the 737-700 and the 737 MAX 8
This is an interesting video Chris! I would have to watch the Southwest Airlines first flight to MIA again. Again, I LUV Southwest Airlines.
I think these new vlogs are much better than the past trip reports staring at the captions the whole time.....It is nice to have Live commentary where you are talking and that is how most of the other flight bloggers are doing it.... you got an excellent sense of humor which makes the new videos exciting, and entertaining.... Fresh New start.... great updated channel....Looking forward to continue watching....glad the Covid flight List has been retired.... It did run it's course....but I think we were all tired of it.... Keep up the awesome work...
Everytime I see one of my cohearts in your video (BWI ramp agent) I show them and there like wow thats me!
I love the new style of videos that you are now putting out, dare I say that they are better than the full flight videos.
I like the new voiceovers... better than the Full Flight, though I enjoyed them.
I like the new video format it works well. Also Southwests desert one livery is one of my favorites out there
Nice job Chris! Like the new format.
Me too
I knew this new format would be great, but I was still impressed, I can’t wait for the future Chris!😸
Hey Life’s Ups and Downs!
@@BluegrassElevators why hello there Andrew!
Now that’s a classic jet.
That FA was the first time ever I’ve heard an FA say that you couldn’t take any pictures. Never heard that before
The FA meant that you can’t take pictures of the flight crew. I fly all the time and I know by heart that taking pictures out the window is totally fine. I do it all the time. You can’t take pictures of the flight crew unless if they say it’s okay. I’ve even had some fa tell me that I can’t take pictures of the layout of the cabin because if security reasons but I can guarantee that taking pictures out the window at your seat is totally fine and allowed
I liked the full flight videos.
Plenty to go back and watch!
I like the new format! The voiceover means you don’t have to look directly on the screen, so it’s great!
Out of all your videos, your voiceover videos are my favorite format by far. You should keep doing those.
I like this new style hope you keep posting.
I love the narration!
Me too
Voiceovers are great, Chris! Well done.
I really like the new format. Keep up the awesome content!!
Isn't it cool that southwest now has non-stop to Miami from PIT
One thing to be thankful for is the FA called you "honey"! LOL. I ❤ SWA. I like the new format. Always did like your posting the names of cities, etc on the ground.
Loving the voice over keep up the AWESOME work
I love southwest 💕 ✈️ 🛫
YES THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW CHAPTER!!!!
I love this
Nice video Chris someday you should try the United Airlines Island Hopper Service. It is a really cool service to try I recommend it.
N711HK isn't the original livery really, the original top color wasn't gold, it was Ochre. Actually, Hideous where this plane and N714CB "Coleen Barrett's" heritage plane in gold look awesome. I've seen this jet countless times in my travels and it's always nice to remember Southwest in the good ole days.
I miss the good ole days of SWA as well. They are still not bad to fly, but their fares have creeped up where in some cases they are just as much as United or AA. Their people don't seem as nice or friendly as they used to be. They can be kinda of rude in fact. I think the magic that SWA had when Herb Kelleher was around is gone. They are not bad, just getting more and more like AA, Delta, and United everyday. Herb was a visionary and an awesome, charismatic leader and there will be another leader like that in our lifetime. I live in Dallas, and have a friend that works at SWA and he says the same thing as I do.
I'd say DAL takes the cake for the best airport food court imo :)
Nah man, been there on many morning flights to not find a McDonald’s. I kinda wish they had a McDonald’s
I first started flying Southwest in 1991 when they came to Sacramento. That was the livery I remember so well. I even had some Eddie Bauer luggage that kind of matched that Desert Gold. I am still flying Southwest and I still have that luggage, except it doesn't match the livery anymore.
Great voice-over! Photography, editing and music always First Class…….even though you’re flying coach :)
I flew on this aircraft from DCA-CMH. First time riding a plane with this livery.
Amazing
Agreed
Now you gota do this on the Max version of Herb's retrojet!
Can’t wait to watch the new style video!!
I think I actually like these narrated videos as apposed to the the sub titled ones. Nice one man! Theres an NPR show about entrepreneurship , and Herbert Kelleher was on one before he passed away. It was very interesting.
I like the voiceover much better than sub titles. Good job!
Excellent video! It has your esscence! Last week I was on BWI for the first time and on a MAX. I hope to post it soon! Excellent job. Really like the new format.
I was on that same aircraft on January and it was so exciting! Mucho exito, Chris!
Growing up, my family and I would fly from Milwaukee to Fort Lauderdale on southwest. Never had a bad experience on this airline after flying for a decade and a half
Flew on this baby on July 4, 2015! Nice video dude! 😁👍
I ended up with that 14% chance to fly the retro plane flying out of Hubert Humphrey Terminal at MSP to
Chicago Midway, in October last year, and I too sat in the rear seating section!
I like your videos. My favorite one is the flight from Pittsburgh to Myrtle Beach on Spirit Airlines.
I subscribed to your channel on 9/25/20, it's approaching the one-year mark. I've enjoyed every video you made since I subbed, I'm really looking forward to this cool change with the voiceover style videos. I wish you nothing but the best moving forward :) will be flying SWA in a few months to TPA!
This was filmed on my birthday 😃
I know I’m a little late to post this reply. But happy birthday 🎁🎂🎉🎊🎈
@@MatthewsAviationChannel thank you
@@alex5.7_ your welcome
That’s A Very Nice Livery Man👍👌✈️❤️🇺🇸… In Honor To Founder Herb Kelleher… He May R.I.P.🙏✝️🛐🪦🕯!!!
Still my favorite channel!!!
Admit it...you'll miss driving through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and Liberty Tubes to get to the airport...:-)
Hey the jazzguy13 aviation I saw the Same Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 700 in the Desert livery at Ronald Reagan international airport (KDCA) !
Can you go on one of the ultra long hauls? Like Buenos Aries to Darwin or London to Auckland? That would be cool to see!
Yay, jazzguy video!
Enjoy your Southwest flight ✈️ to Baltimore man and have a wonderful day and flight to Miami Florida. 👍🏼😁😁😁👍🏼👊🏼🤙🏼🇺🇸.
Luv southwest, great video,I agree,Pittsburgh international is one of the best!
This is awesome ,Love it.
I’ve seen this jet at MCO!
I was supposed to be on this jet from Omaha to Chicago Midway the Southwest decided to change the plane to N969WN instead however, I did fly on either this plane or the Colleen Barrett plane in 2009 from Omaha to St Louis
Well most people took American airlines to Miami International Airport MIA from Pittsburgh International Airport. We'll maybe you can travel to Miami on American airlines from Pittsburgh PIT.
Chickfila was closed because November 15th, 2020 was on a Sunday!!!
Was the Delta 767 going to ATL or did they still fly CDG at that time? I'm going to really miss the classic strobe lights once those are gone. Love the content!
Not quite sure, might've been a charter
good
I personally liked the new way of filming and editing. I think it's good to see who the guys behind the cameras are. It seems the video gets us, viewers, a little closer to the producer. It's similar to the dialog between the author and the reader of a book. About you showing up in the videos, why don't you have a haircut that shows your face more upfront - but this is just my opinion kiddo! Thanks for sharing,
Haha I'm a musician gotta play the part :D
Where did you get that backpack at in the first clip of the video
Does Pittsburgh to BWI take the same time to fly from Boston to JFK?
it seems they are cracking down on people with cameras nationwide and not just AA 😂
Am I to infer with this video Herb has taken a 737 over the rainbow?
Do you have an amazon store?
yoo new video
I like this format better. Sometimes there has been too much to read.
my flight filming will start in 2022.
Kinda sad southwest retired this plane
No😊
It’s on a max

@@Kuchateschool oh that’s cool
9:00 the seat belt broke? you are lucky that the seat belts are not fitted with sensors that the pilots can detect in the cockpit, or else.....lol.
Loooooool
If ya use Radar Box or Flight Radar 24 ya would've see before hand what bird ya will be on.🤣🤣
Voice is better than words on the screen that we have to read. Reading distracts from the video.
I like Delta airlines a321 or 737 800 ✈ better than Sunwing airlines.
I've stopped flying Southwest, their product and FA's (as evidenced in this video) has gone down to the gutter. I hate to say you get a much more friendly service on Spirit/Frontier/Allegiant at this point.
At least bubble boy won't comment or reply to these comments in this video
That’s you, and you did comment as usual
@@liflyer0413 that you
@@michaelsharp3615 no, it’s you actually, Red said so.
I am also noticing....it seems like an increase of Karens not allowing filming or passengers not wanting to be filmed....which didn't seem to happen nearly as frequently in the past.....HMMMM
She must be miserable 4:18
You would actually eat at Chick Filet? Yuck.... I value my health... no way...
