- Dollar General Inside A Former Golden Corral??? Cincinnati, OH. In this video we take a look around this very unique Dollar General location. This was a former Golden Corral restaurant that had closed. After filming I found out that this location first became a Family Dollar before it became Dollar General. Pretty bizarre to see, honestly.

This Golden Corral is located in the Cincinnati Suburbs of Norwood and it closed in 2012. Definitely a weird reuse of a building.
Golden Corral is gross.
We have one that closed here. It moved to a location visible from the interstate by an off ramp and before the pandemic, it looked like it was doing well. Did this one just close or did it move? Just curious.
I think it closed aug 2011 as well as the ones in fairlawn and media

This is what more Dollar General stores need...more personality. I’d much rather see an existing structure re-purposed instead of those bland new Dollar Generals that look exactly the same!

Speaking of Dollar General, my uncle was the manager of one, but recently quit. The reason for this was because he was the only one working there, with only 2 other employees there. He ended up quitting for being overworked. He even occasionally worked double shifts. Just shows you how desperate the work force is nowadays.
Pre pandemic they operated like this to cut costs

Yeah, true. I don't see why this happened because there were (and still are) lots of employees at the other Dollar Generals in the area.

My ex-MIL worked as a store manager at Family Dollar. It was the same way there. A store manager, assistant manager, and 3 employees. That was it.

Now let's see the old Kmarts transform into Super Dollar General stores...lol
One of the Kmarts in my area was torn down and a Super Target put in it's place, with a Best Buy and first a sporting good store then a Cox Communications customer service center next to it. Another was divided in half and became a Family Dollar and Big Lots, then Big Lots moved and Dirt Cheap moved in, then that closed so now that part of the building is vacant. Another one of our KMarts was turned into a Big Lots and another a large indoor flea market.

That area is full of repurposed buildings. Next to that Dollar General is a Burlington that used to be a Value City. It still looks like a Value City inside. Around the corner on Highland, there's a Floor & Decor that was a Walmart. The Walmart moved to a new building. Down the road on Ridge is an abandoned Kmart with a separate auto service building.
Sounds like a former sears influenced Kmart.

The location of the Dollar General in Vanport Township PA was once a Prizant's Carpet up until 2007 when they folded up

In gray court south carliona there’s a dollar general with a gas station. It’s in a old Walmart neighborhood market building

I’ve seen Pizza Hut got repurposed into a eyeglass store , they kept the outside intact So you know what it was before but they sell glasses instead of pizza… kind of cool (Was passing through the area didn’t go in)

Up here on the Detroit/Warren, Michigan border line on the 8 Mile Road and Van Dyke area, there 3 Dollar Stores competing with each other. They are:
#1. Dollar General
#2. Dollar Tree
#3. Family Dollar
Now, I have a name for Big Lots. Big Lots looks like a Dollar General with Furniture.

That dollar store is massive compared to the small ones in rural N.W. Pennsylvania. At least there is room between the isles to walk.

Harbor Freight did something similar in a Shopping mall in Cleburne, TX. They put their store inside the main mall entrance (you know where Benches and the fountains would be located at) yes there.

I had gotten an brand new built from the ground up DG and old DG was next door to true value hardware ( used to been an old ALCO discount store in the 80s in that building) but an very interesting way of having an DG in an old Golden Corral!

That's pretty cool! I live in Cincinnati area but haven't seen that one yet. There's an old Bob Evans across the river in Newport, KY thats now a laundromat. Laundromax I belive it's called. Always funny to see that. Still the unique bob evans building. You can't mistake what it once was.

I think it's laughable how Family Dollar's $1 section only takes up an end-cap's worth of space compare to a whole aisle at DG. I wouldn't even waste my time at FD!!

Ok I don't know what golden coral puts in thier black cherry jello but I remember eating it as a kid and getting sick from it and I still joke about it today whenever I go to one.😂
In my area, Family Dollar stores are popping up everywhere. One popped up in a former Major Video store and another in a former Rite Aid Drug Store. I think it's interesting a Golden Corral was repurposed for first a Family Dollar then a Dollar General. The outside looks the same but they must have gutted in the inside because it doesn't look like a restaurant on the inside. It's better the building be put back into commerce than just sit empty. There's a Golden Corral in my area that closed a few years ago and the building is still there, still vacant last time I went by there. The restaurant moved to a location by an off ramp that was visible from the interstate and before the pandemic, it appeared to be doing well. I've never been and probably won't go.
