There was a Trader Horn in Grove City that used to be a Jamesway (remember those?!). It closed whenever all the other THs closed and now it is a Tractor Supply store.
Wow how times flies! From one of your first vidoes to now turning out pro video after pro video! How far you have come. Again one reason I love you is your respect for the properties and people like the firefighters and heroes who were practicing over there. You have such class too, another reason i admire you. From the long shots this location looks like my KMart in Jersey city which sadly went to retail heaven in June of last year. They really didn't do much renovation in that store. It's ashame the man running Trader Horn could not find someone to take over the company and keep the store running and give people another option for shop besides Tarshay and Wally World. Trader Horn seemed like a company who care about the customers which is crucial for any business. Think I posted on your old video how can a Brewery Outlet FAIL? We all need beer to help us through the day. It's a basic of many peoples diets. Sometimes you may not get into this location but the urbexer gods will smile on you and let you in another location you didn't expect. Or two or three. Goodness reaps its own rewards.
Thank you! I think the Brewery Outlet closed as it was part of the Kmart building. It closed the same time Trader Horn did. Probably lost all the business as there is nothing here anymore on the property or around it immediately. Everything is across the highway now.
And as for the Urbexer Gods.... they shined Tuesday with an unexpected gem I found in NJ near the PA border. The door wasnt even shut all the way. Talk about luck.
You and me both love Wallie for what he does. Shows respect by not breaking in and taking things. He, Nate, Richard and Kara and others I have watched (along with subscribed too) show a level of respect that is getting far and between now. Wallie when you said you basically hate tagging, I am the same way. I once worked at a Sears (demolished last year, now new wing of where I worked at) and it was being tagged by gangs. I especially hate that in bathrooms, Place I worked at till last week had some in the bathrooms, some recent within the last couple months. Almost right away it was painted over as was extremely graphic just from the words. I;m not sure but I am hoping the idiot was fired.
Nice video. What a cool looking old K Mart. Never heard of Trader Horn but must have been a great store. Too bad you couldn't get in. Thank you and keep more videos coming. I love them
It has the 1980's interior paint color scheme that my Kmart had. What's interesting is the drive thru auto garage wasn't usually done on this style of Kmart building.
As a former volunteer firefighter, buildings like this make for great places to train in. This space is perfect for wide open space search and rescue, rapid intervention team (RIT) training. I'll bet if you had stopped when they were training and talked to them, they may have let you in to check things out. Love how the product is still in the outlet and hanging above the registers is a sign saying "Guaranteed fresh" lol. And the door with the missing hinges most definitely was used for forcible entry training.
Good video Wallie! I have so many memmories of going there with grandpa, dad, and myself.. We got all sorts of things there from crafftt items to auto and tool items; paint, too. The pricess were great. Feeling sad it's gone now.😔
I used to live just a few min from here up the hill. Live in weirton wv now where im originally from but graduated high school up there in 2007. I remember when the trader horn was open and even sun books! Didn't know this was a kmart before. Very cool! Wallie youre always in my backyard and my boyfriend and i are huge fans and would love to meet you! Great vids!
Attention Khorn customers. This was a very nice revisit of this location. I can't wait to see the greenhouse Kroger/Sunbooks video. I feel the need of a Super K revisit.
I have one of those kmart kroger combo centers near me. The kmart closed sometime in the 1980s and currently empty along with the Kroger. I had no idea this kmart existed to recently until I was playing on Google maps and found the building.
If you want to do another double abandoned video, the greater butler mart in butler, pa has an abandoned trader horn (2016) and an abandoned Friedman’s supermarket (2018) in the same plaza. Last I checked the Friedman’s still had products inside. Also, there is an abandoned trader horn in kittanning, pa (former Jamesway that trader horn leased after they closed in 1994), as well as a Long John Silvers/AW that just recently closed its doors last month after a 30 year run. It was an original old school long johns that changed to an AW combo restaurant in the early 2000’s.
I remember the sun books used to be a kroger until the 1985 union dispute that resulted in kroger leaving the area. It was a Viola supermarket after that.
looks like all the stores closed in 2015 sadly. its sad that lots of stores are going away i feel better at times getting certain things from a physical store rather then waiting for something to be shipped slowly.
again , interesting videos...you should check out the old motordrome speedway along I 70 just off the Smithton exit...the place has been closed a number of years now
This one closed because they lost their lease because of the Walmart deal that the property owners were trying to sneak through. He actually tried to move this location but when he found out he was not doing well health wise he closed all of the other stores.
Looks like the Kmart building in beckley west Virginia a local regional store called magic mart move into after Kmart closed down and 3 months later they closed down after that it is abandoned beside the people working in there to keep it up to code but we heard that Rose's discount stores may go in if they came they are would take the whole store but if big lots moves across from current location they will subdivided the store
I remember a Trader Horn on Rt 17 in Rutherford, NJ. But pretty sure it's been gone since the late 90s. Edit: The Trader Horn I remember was more appliance centric, like a Best Buy.
The one Kmart up the road from me (Dickson City, PA) has docks like those and I think even that same exact front design. It lasted until 2016 or 2017 and is now a bounce place with lotsa trampolines with a hair salon opening in the other end. That end used to be a Chuck E. Cheese (and later Zack Periwinkles) back in the 80's.
Far out! I used to shop there all the time. We would always stop there to buy candy and stuff before we went to the movies across the parking lot. That place is all apartments or like an enormous assisted living place now. Wal-Mart tried to move in there and the residents protested it cause they didn't want all that traffic. If Trader Horn didn't have it, you didn't need it lol. And i was a fire fighter and yes indeed, we would train in the (Ballys Fitness? I think it was called) right next to the sun books. It was all kinda obstacles and stairs and stuff to train when its all filled with the smoke machine
Want to go inside a K-Mart like this? Go to Sidney, NY. I've filmed it a few times. It closed in 1992 (and moved next door) and you can walk right in through a window that was shot out. Don't try the door to any other buildings though, the K-Mart does not have power, but the (unlocked) Grand Union next door does, and the alarm is on.
Arched doors and drop ceilings that they had with the big horn vents screamed kmart. FIL loved to come to this store when he visited. But you get your hands on the dust fittings and stuff to the right in the store and your hands would be black from the thick coating of dust on everything. it was the kind of store my grandmother and mother liked - it didn't look too nice so they'd figure it was ripe to pick through because there must be some underpriced junk somewhere. Not that I'm too good for it - I'm sure a garden tool or three in my garage are from there. All of it got halfway to being a walmart, which I'd have welcomed. The rest of the residents, I guess not. We can have mattress stores and dollar stores dotting the landscape up the road, but no can do for walmart.
I just wish I had photos of a former MC Sports that closed last year after they went bankrupt. Not even a year later it allready is a Ashley Furniture and right next too it a Panda Express was built.
12:40-Forget “99 bottles of beer on the wall”, this looks like at least, what, a thousand or two thousand cases (if those boxes across the back wall have beer in them for real)?
Damn . I remember my parents getting their beer from there , Very cool with the owners of the place . Always use to go into the trader horn as a kid too . They had everything in there . Sad to see it like this . Looks so weird empty, but the distributer looks the same minus most shelves & the registers ..might try to check it out considering I live close . Anyone exploring here, be careful the ops always out around here , be safe 💪😎
I know managing a Kmart here in South Carolina beer, wine and alcohol we had to pay cash ,COD, for it and once we paid for it it was ours and the vendor would not take it back. If it was about to go out of date he would swap it for fresh and take that that was almost out of date to the convenience stores because it sells faster there. If you want fresh beer don't go to the convenience stores lol
hey wallie wouldn'tit be cool if someone bought or leased this place and transformed into a really nice flea market click like if anyone would love to see this place as a feauter flea market love your video vlogs and god bless you always and have a blessed day and night posted on 5 / 9 / 2019 @ 2 : 30 am
That was the speculation throughout the community. They had apparently purchased it to keep Walmart from moving in. Now that it has been sitting vacant, the township has finally gotten fed up.
Awesome old kmart i sure hope something cool comes and moves into their without changing the look of the building too much even the front entrance lights above the door look very 70s it looks to be even that orange paint striping in the very back of the store is original to Kmart maybe not but my Kmart had some of that same paint colors in the back part closed off part of the store that was from the 70s
Got uglier fast, as least they did not invest in new sliding doors only to turn around and close it. The remaining 425 Stores will be completely remodeled with a gallon of paint. Lol! Joking, maybe not even that. Our WI store was just purchased by Transform Co LLC the new Lambert created company that bought SHC. The new Taco Bell build on the lands tax records shows owned and operated by Kmart Corp. This is not a mistake either.

I remember a department store called Kresge’s as a kid back in the sixties with soda and ice cream counters .
Kresge's was the old name of Kmart

Sebastian S Kresge he would roll over in his grave if he saw what happened to his company

Nice to see a former Kmart in the 70's & 80's design. I remember this design of Knart when I was a kid in the 70's.
WallieB, I miss the Kmart's the 3 we went to in different cities here in Oklahoma. Awesome video! Really enjoyed it.

love to have those old advertisements like beer mural
That's a nice vintage Kmart building, the front entrance almost looks like the one used in the '70s commercial with the gospel choir style singing.
I remember going to that k-mart in the 80s, along with the nearby Showcase Cinema.
Me and my grandfather used to always go to this Trader Horn . Sad to see it’s gone .
THANKS WALLIE B GOOD JOB!
Loving your videos.
The K Mart we had they ended up turning it into a Church. Love the videos Wallie!!😎
I still remember the first video on this place like yesterday. Which was the first video I saw from you.
It would be so cool to see a photo of this plaza in its heyday when Kmart and Kroger were still here.
I'm so glad SOMEONE remembers that this was once a K-Mart!
You can tell by the design that it was a Kmart at one point now when did Kmart close
I loved this store.
Thanks Wally
That MAC sticker on the door! 💙
Attention Khorn customers. This was a very nice revisit of this location. I can't wait to see the greenhouse Kroger/Sunbooks video. I feel the need of a Super K revisit.
From the look of kroger/sun book's building it all looks abandoned with only like five or six cars in the parking lot.

I used to work at the Bally’s during the grand opening and we would walk to Trader Horn for snacks in the early 90s. It was about 1992.

2015-2016
Soon it will be Re-re visited......
If KMart had got their act together they could have stayed competitive
Please go back and revisit Ames
I plan on it!
