Aperture is a pretty confusing subject… There are some words and concepts you need to understand.
Not knowing how your F-stop is affecting your image is one of the main reasons for photos that aren’t tack sharp.
In this video, I want to give you a full explainer of aperture and teach you how to use your camera to its full potential in any scenario!

Really clear explanation, William. One the best I've seen. Many thanks 🙂

the quality of your videos is unreal. love it
Cheers!
Just found you, via the Nick Page interview. Thanks for providing an easy to follow detail without make it too technical. I will now watch more of your episodes. Thanks.
Thanks David, I appreciate the support mate :)
Nice and simple to understand - I love that tree!!
Very well illustrated, makes sense now. Thanks
Glad I was able to help :)
Couldn't be explained any better. Thanks for the demonstration.
Wolfgang
Thanks William really enjoy these tips, would like to see something simple on Focus stacking and exposure blending.
Sounds like a plan. Thanks again!
Great video. Aperture was the hardest for me to get my head around (F Factor!!) and listening to your video was excellent. Thanks
Haha, thanks Leanne!
I enjoyed this video and you made it very easy to understand.
Thank you
Thanks a lot Rex!
Thanks man, these video's along with your course's I have purchased. I'm on my photography journey moving ahead.
Nice presentation William
I use a tilt shift lens for a lot of my landscape photography.
Take care
Thanks mate. Yep, that certainly helps with getting an infinite DOF.
Thanks!
You’re a legend mate thank you!
What’s another concept of photography you might struggle with? Let me know and I’ll try add it in future videos!
Kind of struggling with focus stacked exposure blended panoramas. Thanks for the videos, Will - your work is amazing.
ISO… I sort of get what it is, and why lower is less noisy, but do not really “get” what the numbers mean…
Hi! great video, thanks! I'm taking the Landscape photography Essential courses and I'm really enjoying them. I am learning a lot and love the pictures you take.
When practicing, I struggle with getting sharp images. I use Sony A7RIII with Tamron 17-28mm f2.8, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and/or Sony 70-300mm f4.5-5.6.
I keep the aperture to f11 (or near) and ISO 100, then I play with the shutter speed (I do use tripod) and take into account the focal length does not missmatch the speed too much. Focus mode AF-S and focus area is centre or flexible point S. I've made a lot of tests, but when I get home, the images aren't as sharp as I would expect. What could I be doing wrong? I feel it's something to do with wrong focusing... Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for the support and kind words! Well it’s hard to say without seeing the images or being there when you shoot. Feel free to email me some of the raws so I can take a look. It could potentially be that you’re just zooming in way too far when you’re checking the sharpness. It sounds silly but I’ve had many clients do this on the back of camera or in post. But you really don’t need to zoom too far in, otherwise you’re just analysing pixel details. 100% zoom is typically enough and just check the edging of an object. Anyways, that might not be what you’re doing. Feel free to send a file or two if you want me to have a look :)
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography Thanks a lot! I'll email you a couple of examples :)
Appreciate this. 🤍
Thanks again Mel :)
