    I can't even begin to express how grateful I am for you sharing your knowledge. You do this for a living and still take the time to help others fix it on their own. Followed your instructions and it runs like it is brand new now. Thank you so much.

    Watched several videos with guys telling me it had to be the auto choke but I tried brake cleaner when it started to die and was able to keep it running. Found debris in the jet and reassembled to try it. The lawn is now shorter! Thank you.

    My mother in law bought this mower last summer and after sitting in the garage for the winter it wouldn't start. At less than a year old and with a "guaranteed to start" I thought I would get it fixed under warranty. I called the authorized repair shop and the first thing they asked me was if I left gas in it over the winter because that voids the warranty. I've had other mowers that I've left gas in for 10+ years and never had this problem. Thankfully I found this video that showed me step by step how to fix it myself. Thanks so much, after following your video the mower started up on the first pull!

    • @pafoofnic
      @pafoofnic  9 лет назад +1

      lukecinda I'm happy to have been of assistance. The main problem mowers are facing is the crummy gasoline we have with 10% or higher ethanol content. The gas separates, gums and corrodes parts, thanks to the governments flex fuel law. Most gasolines made now have a 30 to 60 day shelf life and then bad things start to happen. Keep the fuel fresh and start your motor regularly.

    BIG Thanks to Chris of Alameda Repair Shop! Chris took my call and walked me through clearing the main port of my defective carburetor caused by gas that had been left in there for God knows how many years by previous owner. Video is perfectly descriptive. Following Chris' suggestion, I used a piece of stripped Cat 5 wire and cleared it without having to dive too deeply into the bugger.

    same mower...same issue. Tried all the "quick" fixes and finally just took off the carb and cleaned her up nice. Used the end of some speaker wire, it's perfect to clean the jets..just one or two strands of that copper fits right in there. Took 15 minutes and started first pull. Thanks!!!

At first I was like oh hell no this is too much work but you broke it down in such easy steps that I decided to take a chance. Ok, My Uncle, an excavator, used to call me an educated idiot, because I went to College and became a Doctor, and don't know much about the mechanical side of things. But I have this mower, got it back from the renter who hadn't used it in 9 months, with gas still in it, and of course it didnt start. But I sat on the porch today with the tools and watched your video. Now it took me a lot longer than 13 minutes, but I got that sucker started and mowed the lawn. My Uncle Dell would call it a miracle.

    Mine is running like new now. I accidently lost the center emulisifier and the linkage to the auto-choke, but spent 25 minutes and found them. Runs great now. Thanks! You weren't lying about the 3 tiny little holes in there. Mine started on the first (and every) pull now. A tip for tools. When I cut off the extra wire on my guitar strings, I save the short pieces for super strong little pokers. The different gauge string (on my bass too) makes for great reamers to get in little holes like that.

      +Seng Lau Thanks for the comment. Keep the fuel fresh and flowing. Old fuel is usually the cause of this. (over 30 days old)Theoretically you can put fresh gas in and start it or not, 2 months later it may be plugged and corroded. Ethanol added to fuel is no good and most pump gas is 10% ethanol.

    I followed this video to the letter and bingo, one small pull, vroom.
    I dumped my old gas in my car, figured it will mix with new and burn, bought new gas. Clean the carb, and bingo. I was puzzled when I put it back together by the diaphragm pin, althought it's in proper location, it seemed loose, figured maybe when the engine runs, there must be a vacuum pulling on the diaphragm somehow.
    For the small holes, I used a small office staple, from my paper stapler.
    Thanks for putting this up on the web, I even impressed my wife with my repair skills.

    I've used this video twice now when my mower wouldn't start, and it surprises me every time that the motor runs fine after I'm done. Great attention to detail with the gasket protection. Do you guys sell parts? I had a stuck float that destroyed the rubber on my air filter with fuel, and one of those little O-rings on that black piece was looking a bit flat and may need replacement soon. I'd buy from you if you sell.

    I just followed your video and it worked like a champ.
    I want to comment though because my choke linkage is different. On mine there is a single link that cannot be unbolted as shown in your video.. To remove it one would need to remove 2 bolts on the other side of the engine on top of the muffler. This releases the choke heat coil, which can then be moved off of the choke link without bending it.
    The choke coil is a round silver piece with a pie shaped slotted top. That pie shaped piece pivots when the coil inside the base gets warm from exhaust, allowing the mixture to lean out by adding air. (I know, too much information!)
    Any way, great concise video.
    Turns out I had skipped a step. When I first restarted the mower it was running but lacked smoothness and rpms.
    So I reviewed your vid and realized I had forgotten to clean the black plastic orifice tube from the carb top. Once I cleaned that up it ran better than new.

    Thank you for this video! I have the exact same mower, and I was ready to sell it, junk it or blow it up. I let it sit without stabilizer and it has always been hard starting but this season it wouldnt even start with starter fluid. Did everything the exact way in this video and the emulsifying tube was clogged like crazy. Now it runs with the easiest pull. THANK YOU!

      All brands of mowers are affected by the terrible introduction of ethanol and other various additives to the gas. Gas with ethanol should be used within one to two months of leaving the refinery. My recommendations to my customers is to dump the gas from your can into the car monthly and fill it with fresh gas, towards the end of mowing season purchase a couple of cans of "ethanol free" 4 stroke fuel, (available at most hardware and auto supply stores), and run that for a couple of tanks before seasonal storage. Ethanol fuel will after a few months deteriorate, separate and leave deposits requiring service. Thank the all knowing government for the renewable resource mandate.

    • @pafoofnic
      @pafoofnic  6 лет назад

      Could be, I've never seen a bad coil on on this model. I'd check the fuel filter in the fuel line at the tank, (had them fill too slow and the bowl run out of fuel) also change the spark plug, (especially if it's an ngk). Good luck.

    • @pafoofnic
      @pafoofnic  8 лет назад

      +Chris Smith Be sure to get rid of all the old fuel. Gas with ethanol is rated for a 30 day shelf life. If your fuel is over a month old dump it in a vehicle that has fuel injection and use it up. Usually after a few months corrosion or gumming may start. I even see jelly like stuff in the float bowls sometimes. Fresh and clean, good luck.

    I have the same mower and it does this to me 2-3 times a year if it's not being started every week. These new carburetors suck. Great video and saves a trip to the shop if you have the time!

    • @evanchapmanfanman
      @evanchapmanfanman 7 лет назад +2

      EspoProductions EPA regulations require them to be set to run as lean as possible and they are just horrid, I have dealt with engines where I just end up boring out the emulsion tube just to get the damn thing to run properly

    • @pafoofnic
      @pafoofnic  7 лет назад +1

      You can remove it and clean out all the holes, if it needs boring out there's probably still a clog somewhere.

    • @evanchapmanfanman
      @evanchapmanfanman 7 лет назад

      that and sometimes a change in elevation can cause them to run erraticaly

      use non ethanol fuel........these problems go away like magic. buy your self a gallon of non ethanol from depot if you cant get it locally from a station. it's all the ethanol killing gaskets,rubber and causing sludge.

      A 50 dollar ultra sonic cleaner saves a lot of time, well, labor.. just take bowl off and drop it in for an hour ..spray out with carb cleaner and air and ready to go .Provided there is no rust found inside. If rust then just buy a new one off Ebay 15, 20 bucks.

    Just did the same fix on the same engine. It's less than 2 years old. I always used premium high-octane fuel (94). It turns out Petro-Canada started putting ethanol in premium gas, and that's bad for small engines. That carb bell had weird droplets all over it and it shouldn't have. Cleaned that, poked wire in all the holes and put it back together and it started on the second pull :)

    Thanks for the video, it helped get the job done quickly. Someone might have mentioned this in the 400 other comments, but in case they haven't. If your "emulsifier tube" is stuck after removing the main jet. You can see the other end of it by looking through the carb throat. The 1/10 inch tall brass piece on the bottom is it. If you press on the little brass piece that will start the tube coming out. Mine still would not drop out after pressing the 1/10 inch. I then had to pass a wire up from the bottom and through the hole in the tube. I reached into the carb throat with a pair of needle nose and bent the end of the wire. That allowed me to pull the tube the rest of the way out. Hope this helps if yours is that gummed up too.

    Thanks for a great video. I picked a Toro that was put out at the curb and knew it was the carb (using starting fluid test), but needed a hand on getting it off. I opened it and found a rusty mess - No saving this one. I guess it sat out in the rain without the carb filter on (since it did not have one) I found a new carb with filter and cover on Amazon for $25.

    Very nice how-to.Thanks.I got one of these mowers for cheap and fixed it.Runs like a champ.I really needed a mower.My old one the deck rotted out and a chunk flew up and hit me.Luckily I was not hurt.
    One other thing people may want to check is the fuel screen.On mine it was right inside the fuel hose fitting where the fuel line goes into the gas tank..Remove the fuel line from the tank and it pulls right out.
    Mine was blocked solid.Dunno what it was,but carb cleaner wouldn't remove it.But very hot water melted it off.I also removed the tank and rinsed it with hot water.

    Great information video! I was able to clear the blocked jets without removing the carb completely. I dissasembled to the point seen at 2:08 in this video and was able to get the carb cleaner spray tube into the jets located just behind the choke plate is the main jet. Also removed the bowl and cleaned that out/sprayed the float area. You should see a couple more large jet openings near the air filter gasket flowing with carb cleaner when you force the nozzle of the carb cleaner into the main jet and squirt 'till it flows freely. Much less of a chance of messing up the throttle linkage/choke calibration if you don't dissasemble so much. Thanks to this video for making it clear how to dissasemble!!
