This was a great video. I followed your steps to a T and my lawn mower started on the 1st pull. Great job with the details. Thanks again, as I avoided buying a new mower!
@@GarageGear Welllll, I took the fan cover off, fan was not changed out, like previous owner told me he did. It was dirty, all bent and twisted, actually. Took of rest of fan housing off and the carb'r looked like the insides of a 30 year frig, all black, grimy, and otherwise shocking. I bet he never cleaned this in his 10 yr ownership. I doubt he changed out the spark plug, like he said he did. I take apart the carburetor and peaked inside - there is white corrosion everywhere, can't pull out the little tube on the inside, and that little rubber seal that should've been there was now mushy disintegrated slime. Awful. I took it to the local small engines shop and we all stared at it together for about 5 seconds and got busy ordering a new one. I'll have to transfer the autochoke over but..now I know what not draining the fuel/winterizing or just poor maintenance looks like. I'll open up my own shop by next year ! LOL. Ok now my keyboard smells like carb cleaner...got to put my tools away till parts arrive....it's almost 5 o'clock!
@@mfb6310 it’s crazy what bad gas can do to an engine. And in a lot of cases it’s just easier to order new parts instead. Usually if some parts are good and worth keeping I save them for another mower down the road. Or I put them on eBay and try to turn a profit some how out of them. Sounds like you had a fun day lol! Great job tearing it apart on your own to solve the problem! 👍
@@GarageGear Ok done. First fyi - I had to attach the auto choke saved from previous carburator. Reattached carb but wouldn't fit right, top bar clamp & whole rod got stiff once I screwed the carb on, finally realized the little hose clamp finger clasps for auto choke tub (underneath, in back) had to be turn downwards, not pushing against back filter wall. Then, it sat perfectly for the finish. Changed spark plug (good thing too) and put in the good rec fuel (versus regular, previous owner)...And she sounds awesome. Next..... snowblower! Thank you for your post!

I have the same lawnmower and mine just quit when I was just about finishing up my yard, so I did the same procedure, cleaned everything up as you did and it started first pull. You showed how the Air filter cover falls off I had the same problem it actually got chewed up by the lawnmower, went to buy a new one at True value and found out they made a whole new box and cover because of this problem the new one has two snaps and the box is slightly bigger to hold the filter,The old box was actually made too small so they re-designed it, The new one fits perfect. Also want to say you did a great job making a video. Thanks
Hey Dennis glad you got it started on the first pull! Those air filter covers can be a real pain in the butt once they get loose! Thanks for the positive feedback! 👍
Flint Layfield I know man! This guy was just a few streets away from me too! As soon as I saw it I was like, “ I can make a video out of this!” Going to do a few more videos on it too. Stay tuned!
My Toto was stalling at times, I went ahead and cleaned the carb but it still keeps stalling. Gas is clean so is the tank. Any other suggestions what I could possibly look in to?? Thanks!!
@@GarageGear Did everything on the vid except for blowing with compressed air (couldn’t find my compressor). Gonna with it another good cleaning and blow it out this time.

Hey bill clean the carb out completely.! Things are getting backed up and gas is finding it’s way to your air filter! Give it a cleaning and let me know how it goes!
Hey Back in Service! Good to hear from you again! If I need fuel line I typically get it on Amazon. Here is a link. They have all different lengths and sizes. amzn.to/3mTZB30 thanks for watching!
How would you clean that little tube that goes in the bottom of the gas tank and is in the fuel line that connects to the gas tank? I don't know if that carb cleaner would melt the plastic or what? I'm having consistent fuel delivery issues and have even replaced the fuel line. I'm a new subscriber to your channel and wondering also your take on adding fuel filters to mowers that don't have them?
Hey back in service! It’s sounds like you may want to give your fuel tank a look. If it’s dirty inside, it may be clogging up your fuel line even after you replaced the fuel line. Check that first and let me know. I have added in line fuel filters in the past with no issues to mowers that didn’t have them originally. I was planning a video on this with my new Honda. Thanks for subscribing! 👍
It amazes me how ignorant people STILL are to the fact that ethanol gas is terrible for small engines. There are warnings about this in just about every manual you get with a new machine today. But by either ignorance or laziness, most people just ignore these warnings and then either go online to bash the product, or just get rid of it when it will not start. Simple maintenance assures you of having a machine that runs and works well for many, many years. If you must use ethanol fuels, treat them with a good fuel stabilizer YEAR ROUND. Not just at the end of the season. This means adding the stabilizer to EVERY gallon of fuel that you use. Then, at the end of the season, either run the machine out of gas, or even better........ run it out of gas and then add a non-ethanol gas or engineered fuel such as TruFuel. (Found in just about any hardware store today). And run it for a few minutes. If you do not have the skills to rebuild a carb like JB did in this vid, then wake up and start doing the simplest of things to AVOID the problems in the first place.......... ;)
This bit of advice to use ethanol free gas has been around for ages. Even to stabilize it or run it empty before storage too! If you’re not going to prevent the problem, expect the problem! Hopefully this video helps a few people out this year with lawn season right around the corner! What are you working on in your garage this week my friend?
