Finally! It is frustrating at certain points, but I like the overall concept and the details of this movie, a lot of suspense rather than a jump scare pact movie. This one seems more genuine to me and it actually still creeps me out unlike some other modern day horror movies

Dude, I’m right there with you! I eat horror movies for breakfast and those snuff flicks and the sounds in this movie are fucking haunting. They should’ve left it stand-alone without a sequel, but the original still stands fairly strong. Great stuff. (But I agree, the mini-subplot with the kid’s night terrors should’ve been cutting room floor fodder.)

@@TripperGetem I don't think Part 2 had the suspense or terror that the first one did. It seemed kinda like a generic retelling of the first movie. Plus most of it was in the daytime (if I remember) which isn't exactly scary either. Throw in the pseudo-love story, the abusive father plot and all that and it was just kinda all over the place. It wasn't a terrible movie but it's definitely and inferior one to the original. The original actually freaked me out at times.

Sinister is by far one of the best modern horror movies made. There is NO OTHER movie soundtrack that makes me feel as uneasy, or literally UNCOMFORTABLE in the highest capacity, like Sinister's does. Phenomenal film. Creepy-As-Fuck.

I thought the opening shot of the movie was a perfect way to start it. The snuff films were effective and I agree, the sound design and music were so good. But to me this is one of those movies that declines as it goes along. The more info I was told the less intrigued I became. I liked the look of the deity’s face but seeing him in a black suit didn’t work for me at all lol.

I never get tired of sharing my experience seeing SINISTER in theaters (I was in high school)… my date tells me last minute she hates scary movies so she bailed. I still wanted to see it so I went alone. There were a few scattered couples and groups in the theater. About an hour and 15 minutes into it, I’m shaking uncontrollably, my chest was tight, and I was hyperventilating. I had to get up and leave. As soon as I got outside I sat down thinking I was gonna pass out. I took a breather, got myself together, and drove home very on edge. The following weekend I went to see it again, this time with a group of friends… it was still terrifying but I was able to sit thru it. No movie has scared me as much as SINISTER did, and it’s definitely one of my favorites. Easily the best horror film of 2012

So, I had a unique experience when I saw this film back in 2012. I was on a (sorta) blind date with someone (met them once before we went out) when I saw this movie. The person turned out to be a MAJOR creep 😅, so that added to the creepiness of this film for me. That, and combined with just the overall tone of the movie, has made this movie one of my favorite horror movies of all time ❤ I never saw the marketing for it, I went in not knowing anything about this movie, and I was pleasantly surprised. Great movie imo

I'm glad that you mentioned the music, because I think Sinister has one of the best horror movie soundtracks ever. The movie introduced me to the band Ulver, which is now one of my favorites. They made the song you played shortly, named Silence teaches you how to sing. I highly recommend listening to Ulver, for they have some great black metal albums, folk metal albums, soundtracks, ambient and electronic albums and (my favorite) a synth-pop album named Assassination of Julius Caesar. Only a small portion of their tracks are as unnerving as the song mentioned, so if that's not your thing, you have so much more to pick from.

I think this film would have benefitted from a few additional locations, like maybe instead of expodump cop the writer could have had more scenes researching in town and finding old neighbours or school teachers to chat to. Maybe a bit more focus on the kids and how they were being targetted. It was a pretty creepy film but a lot of things spoilt it for me, even stupid things like how he set his room up so anyone accidentally walking in will see everything he's working on XD I also agree that it would have been better to not have a villian icon and instead went for a more heartbreaking unseen supernatural effect on all the kids.

As far as Donofrio's character goes, There's one in almost every movie. I always call it, "the character with the book." There's always one character that somehow has a book that has all the answers in it. That guy that always comes in to tell you everything and, of course, he has "the book". It's usually the guy that lets you know HOW to beat the evil as well most of the time. That's Vince in this movie. That character typically dies in most of the movies. I don't remember if he died in this one. It's been a while since I've seen it.

i watched this movie when i was six years old the year it came out, it scared the ever living shit out of me lmao, this is a movie i’ve always loved and anytime i’m in the mood for a supernatural horror movie, half of the time i’ll turn this on

I pretty much agree. Decent horror flick but the ending was a little predictable.

the movie itself is alright, but it also introduced me to the dark ambient duo aghast...

I thought I was the only person who actually liked this movie, because it’s a uncommon kind of film, and suitably creepy.

I liked it and all I just felt Bughuul's plan was to confusing and complicated. If they move back into their previous home that completes the ritual to summon him and the murders then occur? I don't get it. Maybe I'm missing something here, but the overall plot just feels a little to complicated. I think the movie is ok, not as good as everyone claims, but not bad either.

that intro is pretty funny considering that leaving the house is what kills them.

I felt like the opening of this movie was so good, the bar was set so high, the movie couldn't match it and was just disappointing.

I like how the movie hide Bghoul. It made him more mysterious and creepy. You didn’t know what he was capable of.

This is one of the only films that truly creeped me out. I've only seen it twice because it freaks me out so much, especially being a parent...

I used to love just the jump scare horror movies. Like slashers. Sinister was the first paranormal horror movie I saw. And this is the first horror movie that genuinely scared me. The one part where the son just crawls out of the box at the front door really freaked me the fuck out

I never thought sinister was all that great. Didn’t dislike it or anything but I always see it on like top 5 scariest horror films. Didn’t do that for me.

The movie could've ended on the shot of him being poisoned and the daughter in the background saying "I like that the movies are longer, Daddy." Fade from there to the box of home movies then fade to black and roll credits. That would've been much stronger - the last couple beats spoon feed you too much, with the beheadings, the drawing, the kids in the film staring at her, and of course - the monster carrying her into the film. Most horror viewers could've reached all of those conclusions without needing to be shown.
