I would have a hard time deciding which one to keep if I had to let one go. If someone were asking me which one they should buy, I’d say get the Taurus with no hesitation.

I would like some valid information I really like the feel of the SR but the price point on the Taurus has my attention. I have 38, .380 and 9mm now I'm going to buy a tx22, but in Brazil it's very expensive, around 7 thousand reais, in the currency conversion it would be around 1,400 dollars, as said in the video, it's very good and cheap. , I fired 100 shots with one and I fell in love, I was prejudiced with a 22 caliber, but I fell in love with the gun
SR22 w/extended mag just went over 12K rounds with its first major malfunction because a squib round damaged the barrel. Ruger has such excellent customer service departments. This SR22 is my favorite range gun because build quality, accuracy and perfect feel. Easy to recommend.
Just had to mention that, "extended mag," like all the ghetto blaster channels. No one cares about an extended mag in pistols, especially .22 where that extended mag gets you 2-3 rounds more, unless you're the taurus and can bring your capacity up to 21rd. Now, the SR22 definitely has some nice fit and finish, but at $450 retail for a non threaded model, $500+ for the factory threaded model, the taurus will do everything it will out of the box and more for $275-300 depending. The taurus out of the box will also take ANY power round suppressed. The SR22 has warnings to use low velocity ammo only or else you could break internals from the excess pressure, and will not cover it under warranty if this happens. Imo the only reason to get the SR22 is to conceal or act like you've got money. The TX22 and SR22 have been proven to work, taurus just does it cheaper and better out of the box.
Great video I absolutely love my Taurus tx22 so much fun to shoot and love the 16 round magazines. When I was first thinking about buying a 22 hand gun I almost bought the Ruger sr22 but so many different things I was told and read that it was really ammo sensitive. Glad I bought the Taurus....
Great vid....I really like the Taurus TX 22. I like it so much I sold my Glock 44 ( its a 22 cal. also) and bought another TX 22. I have the SR as well good little gun along with the Walther P22. The Taurus fits my hand as well as my wifes and we shoot them a lot. The Glock I had several problems with you have to use CCI ammo (well thats all i could get it to eat, without jambing). For those of you who want the Taurus look at your local pawn shops or gun shops, i got lucky and found my second one in a local mom and pop store for 200 dollars. I feel like i got a great deal. Also if you want a holster for your TX, Taurus has one for 35 dollars and you get another mag with it... enjoy plinking..
I've heard multiple people tell me the same thing about the Glock so I never bought it. Good tip on the Taurus holster plus mag combo I'll check it out.
I haven't had any problems with either one that i own. I imagine one has 3000 rounds and the other one i own was used but i have about 1000 through it. Great guns, fun to use.
I have had the TX-22 for about 3 years now and I really like it. My previous semiauto handgun was a Ruger SR9c. I hated it so much that I sold it for a loss. But I recently happened on a SR22 and liked the feel of it, so I bought it. After one trip to the range I can say that I like it pretty well. I would have to do a side by side accuracy comparison to see which one I shoot better, but it would be difficult to beat the TX-22 for accuracy. My 9mm is a Taurus G2 Millennium. And it is a solid shooter too.
Personally, I love the SR22 as it has all that I look for in a .22LR carry gun if I so choose. I have not had any ammo function problems other than the cheap Bulk Ammo (expected). I like the “Double Strike” function not present in a Striker platform. Also, I can carry semi-cocked and safety OFF, trigger weight is safety. I did replace the guide rod with a steel captured rod and the front sight with a Fiber HIVIS as I shoot front post. The size is compatible with my G26, but in a single-stack. In a close-in defensive situation, I can put 5-rounds inside the 9-ring at 30+ feet in the same time only 3-rounds of my carry G26 at the same time and range both from the draw under 3-seconds. With quality ammo (HI-VELOCITY ROUNDS) my SR22 has functioned flawlessly.
I have the TX22 bought it used for $275. Eats every kind of ammo and with about 1,000 rounds through it I have zero problems with the exception of a few ammo related issues (Winchester 22LR stored in a hot garage for a decade)
I Purchased a TX 22 about two weeks ago boy let me tell you this is the favorite 22 caliber handgun I have ever owned I can take this to war.... amazing amazing about 600 rounds o Problems good job Taurus
I had both before losing them in a boating accident and loved both of them. Never had a failure that wasn't ammo related. But it seems the Taurus had fewer of them. But the Ruger's double action usually made it to bang the second pull of the trigger. Plus the 16 round capacity of the TX22 is very nice. It also fits my hand like a glove. And if the glove fits, you must not acquit!
I have both the Taurus TX 22 & the Ruger SR22. I shoot both at the range. Got a new follower in the Ruger magazines to up the rounds to 13. I'm happy with the 16 rounds in the Taurus but that follower can be changed too for 20 rounds total. Both these guns have their good points & I think it would be a tossup to try to pick just one. The Ruger is smaller more compact so as a CCW its easier to conceal. The Taurus has a great feel to it & its actually surprising how light it is. To target shoot in 22LR semi auto either one is a winner.
My sr22 holds 16+1. TK +5 baseplate with the addition of +3 followers. Gave me 16 or 17 if I push its limits. they’ve been reliable through over 10000 rounds.

@@mikehatch1967 i have the lcp 2 lite rack and its a very nice plinker (if you like a challenge) or a pocket carry piece. For a range workhorse though, I'd go with the sr22 since the mags are much easier to load AND its in that same size as sub-compact (glock 43x/48) and micro-compact 9mm handguns (hellcat, sig p365, etc.) so its good to have for training
I put one of them on and it requires that you stretch out the spring to put more tension on otherwise it won't feed it with enough pressure in the rounds will turn and jam in the mag if you don't. Now you've got a deformed spring I can never be reverted back to the original tension. I'm not going to do it to my other magazine, and also requires that you take out the easy loader mechanism in the magazine, which is helpful in reloading faster. Also it doesn't have a last round bolt hold open, only a pseudo version of it which I don't think is intentional, just the follower being pressed up with so much force because of how much I had to stretch the spring. I would not recommend the TK extensions
I've owned both of these currently own the tx 22 got rid of the Sr 22 a few years ago which was a mistake. Both are great guns. The sr22 is better quality it feels like a real gun and will have better resale value if u needed to sell it.
I love my SR22 and I also have a Taurus both are great but I lean towards the Ruger as my preferred for the two and I have hands that wear 2X size gloves, it’s more comfortable in my hand and is more reliable and fits better in my pocket
I sold my SR22 because I was getting too much hammer bite whenever I shot it and it was not making shooting very pleasant. I love the Taurus TX22 or my S&W Victory, Ruger Mk III, or S&W 622 way better than the Ruger SR22.
For all you trolls, the only failure with this gun when it came out was a bad batch of barrels that were quickly replaced. None ever exploded on anyone.
I have the Walther that Ruger stole its design from and it is OK so I thought of buying the Ruger. But I now have 2 TX 22s one for my wife and one for me. Excellent guns.
@@Honda1k Its not the 10 round magazine that is a problem. Apparently companies need to apply and pay for every gun they want on the available list in Massachusetts, and Taurus didn't with this one.
I've owned an SR22 because I'm a huge Ruger fan, but that little pistol was too ammo sensitive for me. I picked up a TX22 today and I'm looking forward to running thousands of rounds through it. The higher ammo capacity and larger grip were a big draw for me. Both pistols are well made, but this is one matchup where I'm hoping the Taurus outperforms the Ruger.
@@9MilRidge I liked the Ruger, and it ran most things okay, but it just wasn't my favorite pistol by any means. So far, i believe I'm gonna like the Taurus a bit better. Fingers crossed!
@@bigalt250 I second you on the ruger sr22. I had both the sr22 rifle and sr22 pistol and both were so ammo sensitive. Sold both and replaced the rifle a year or so with a tippman and love it but still haven't replaced the pistol that's why I'm hear.
@@CORYSart I would highly suggest the TX-22! After having it for a few months, it is by far the most fun .22 pistol I have ever shot. My experience between the Ruger and Taurus have been night and day. It has about 2k rounds through it right now with zero maintenance, so I have started to see a few failures here and there, but it has still been incredibly reliable for a rimfire handgun. The only thing I have found that it doesn't like is bulk white box federal hollow points. It has ran everything else exceptionally well.
I have looked at the Taurus and am now looking at the Ruger. I have read that the Taurus customer service isn't so hot and if you send your Taurus in for warranty work it is months before you get it back. Haven't read anything (yet) that Ruger customer service is good or not. I almost pulled the trigger (purchasing) on the Taurus yesterday, but after reading the horror stories from owners, now I'm not so sure.
@@9MilRidge I really like them both. There’s just enough difference to make them each interesting and very nice to shoot. Absolutely no regrets. Thx..!!
Which has the least recoil? I'm a woman with smaller hands, but also have carpal tunnel and arthritis. Which gun has the least pain associated with it? The Taurus grip just looks uncomfortable, but the SR22 is really hard to find affordably right now.
The grip looks weird until you hold it, it fits like an extension of your hand. My grandma is in her 70s and had a broken arm that healed poorly, she still has spasms and issues with it to this day even though it happened over a decade ago. She fired probably 100 rounds through my tx22 with no physical issues. First time she had fired a gun in about 50 years and she loved it. Highly recommend-but good luck finding one right now.
Nice video. I want the Taurus, but they've been sold out everywhere. I'm trying to figure out if there's an easy way to tell which of them was impacted with the barrel issues(serial# maybe?). That way I'm not waisting my time/$ having to file a claim. That being said, I'm currently trying to buy things based on what I can find, and what I think might not be around after 2020.. AR9 pistol, M+P 15/22, hi-cap mags, etc
I think any new tx 22 has the new barrel now. On the barrel itself it says TX-22. On the old barrel the lettering is close together. On the new barrel it's more separated.
They built up lead deposits and cracked or started shooting off. Wasn't super widespread but there was enough of them that they will replace them for free.
It's built to be a target pistol, not a carry. If you want to carry this, I have found the only holster that is comfortable is a shoulder holster or a nice, well made Small of back. There is zero way to appendix this one unless you have some really loose, jacked up pants.
All four of my full size guns are walther I IA actually 45acp ppq best 45 I ever shot the rest are 9mm oh I almost forgot my oldie but goody my innterarms ppk in 380 my first pistol I got it over 40 years ago would love to have a German one but back then it wasn't possible the only walthrr I had 2 of actually and replaced it with the sr22 was the p22 witch I traded for my ruger because it actually worked the p22 at the time I had mine I could only run cci 22 mini mags and even those would jam from time to time the say even these would jam and I experienced that many times supposedly they redid it and the p22q is suppose to be great but I definitely don't need another 22 and I don't think I would start with the p22q that could be 3 times burnt
Which would you recommend for a 10 year olds hands? The Ruger looks easier to teach with (safety looks apparent), ambidextrous may release for both my left and right hand boys, and the grip looks to fit a smaller hand.
The Ruger would probably fit their small hands better, but overall the TX22 is a far better gun, and a far better value once you look at the price. The SR22 might be an alright gun for them to learn on today, but won’t be fun in the future. While the TX22 will be a good forever gun.
30 Seconds into the video, & I stopped it to write this: "Super-Duper, the Taurus has more capacity. But, I ran around w/ an SR22 for over TEN YEARS, before you ever HEARD of theTX22. 😤
Ruger is safer and Better, fixed barrel and better all around mine has the moonshine undertow camo in blue, almost one of a kind, customized by Ruger ..
So you can drop a single round in the chamber and shoot. What if you lose the mag in a survival situation and still have ammo? Most all other handguns fire without a mag in the firearm. It’s just annoying and frankly worse as lots of people store firearms with the firing pin dropped so you’d pull the trigger to drop it, and if you have to put the magazine in to do that you increase the potential of accidentally loading it.
I have em both, I gotta say if it were just a choice on the bench without firing them i would take the ruger. It looks and feels more premium. However when it comes time to go hot on the range the tx22 wins by a decent margin. The taurus feels like a 9 when your lining it up plus that trigger is crazy light. Now for the ruger in single action feels heavier and it has the one thing that some DA/sa pistols do that drives me nuts. The trigger break is just a bit too far back. I would guess that the ruger will probably outlast the tx22 but that may just be the old guy in me where everyting worth haveing has to be heavy and metal. I got a 22 rifle that is almost completely plastic and its amazing. But if your looking to save some money on ammo the tx22 is a great way to get the 9mm feel at a 1/3 the price per round.
280 to 300 to 400 lmao big difference there lol I got them both taurus is better I'm thinking of trading or selling my sr22 I'd I get a decent enough deal
@@Ironsight_Army I’m in the process of having them fix my P22. Still runs but little piece broke off by top cutout and cracked my daughters eye pro right where her pupil was! Thank god were smart enough to use proper safety gear or shed probably lost her left eye!!
Both are very reliable and if you don't have a 45acp, 40, 9mm or 380 22lr would be far better than nothing. So yes, I would if I didn't have those other options available I would carry either one.
@@9MilRidge I have all the others also. Although it would be much more cost effective to practice with. I saw 22plinkster say there's an adapter you can put on the mag for the Ruger that would make it fit 15 rounds.
After owning a SR22, I 100% can not recommend them. Best day I had with it, was the day I got rid of it. After having it for a while I can’t believe I bought it. The grip sucks, the trigger is garbage, the sights are super cheesy, it just feels like a BB gun that was converted to shoot 22lr.
I sold mine to because it was CCI or jam jam jam but I actually like the size because it was a nice pocket pistol on the farm. It does feel kind of kid size

Excellent presentation 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks!
I think Taurus needs to carry the new slide design of the compact model over to the regular full size. I hear the regular model fits glock holsters
That would be awesome!
My sr22 holds 16 with Tandemcross bumper, and has never failed, and it's a Ruger. No comparison.
Wanted the TX22 but they are illegal in Massachusetts, so I got the Ruger
What do you mean. You can get a 10 round tx
@@Honda1k Its not the 10 round magazine that is a problem. Apparently companies need to apply and pay for every gun they want on the available list in Massachusetts, and Taurus didn't with this one.
A .22 is illegal? That’s one f’d up state dude
Interesting my Ruger has never been picky with anything. My Taurus is not either. Definitely a better shot with the Taurus though.
@@9MilRidge I liked the Ruger, and it ran most things okay, but it just wasn't my favorite pistol by any means. So far, i believe I'm gonna like the Taurus a bit better. Fingers crossed!
I think you will, Ruger is nice but the TX-22 is better!
Title: Taurus or Ruger: which one should you buy?
Video: They are both great guns!
Tx 22 more rounds best for any situation ruger ten almost less than taurus about same price both shot well
@@elmerg2663 He didn't mention the 17+1 upgrade for the Ruger.
@@kjsytnmbcz003 Performance speaks volumes apparently
I have looked at the Taurus and am now looking at the Ruger. I have read that the Taurus customer service isn't so hot and if you send your Taurus in for warranty work it is months before you get it back. Haven't read anything (yet) that Ruger customer service is good or not. I almost pulled the trigger (purchasing) on the Taurus yesterday, but after reading the horror stories from owners, now I'm not so sure.
I have over 10,000 rounds though my TX 22 and have had zero issues.
@@9MilRidge Impressive performance from your TX22 - thanks!
It’s videos like yours that cost me money !! ( bought’em both !! )
Hahaha, your welcome?
@@TheGlockmaniac True, they have become rare now, too. But I really appreciate your reply. It's still good information!
Tandem kross makes a rear top shaped pull lever for the Taurus that would be great for your situation.. Did you get one yet
@@hardcore4476 Thanks for the info! No, not yet.
@@WakkasLove your welcome. Check out the videos on RUclips with the Taurus Tx22 with tandem kross accessories.
I have both. The ruger seems better made but the 16 rounds....
Kygunco. Has them instock. Or gunbroker.com
I think any new tx 22 has the new barrel now. On the barrel itself it says TX-22. On the old barrel the lettering is close together. On the new barrel it's more separated.
@@9MilRidge I didn't know. The old barrels were bad?
They built up lead deposits and cracked or started shooting off. Wasn't super widespread but there was enough of them that they will replace them for free.
I have both, neither cycle correctly. Oddly enough, the Taurus prefers to be dirty. Freshly oiled it rarely cycles 3 rounds in a row
I love my Ruger
I love my Taurus; I just wish it wasn't so large.
It's built to be a target pistol, not a carry. If you want to carry this, I have found the only holster that is comfortable is a shoulder holster or a nice, well made Small of back. There is zero way to appendix this one unless you have some really loose, jacked up pants.
Is this for conceal carry or for hunting?
Hunting small game or 🎯 practice.
Awesome opening. I subscribed
Same ammo? 4:28 The Taurus hits seems to have a bit more energy.
Yep same ammo, never noticed that in the video.
@@9MilRidge shorter vs longer barrel, a bit more muzzle energy from the longer barrel Taurus.
I does seem to have more punch now that you mention it.
Owned a few rugers but never had a taurus they seem like ok
The Ruger is just wrong, I would have bought the Taurus but a Walther P22Q came up cheap, happy to say the new version is actually a decent gun
How's that Walther? Had to use hot rds to get to cycle, got ruger now much better.
@@Whitchhunter666 yeah, it was ok at best, sold it and bought a Taurus tx22 compact which is working perfectly
🔫🦅R🔥G🔥R🦅🔫
What happens if u modify your sr22 clip for the 18 round?...
It's the best.
Ruger all day! It has a smaller grip to swap out.
I think the bigger grip on the Taurus would have them get used to standard size guns. What did you end up getting?
None he's not old enough to handle a handgun. Not even a .22 . Your looking for small but that ends quick. When he is 13 he will have bigger hands.
Taurus tx22 over ruger any day
nice camera work and explanations but please lose the background music, quite distracting.
30 Seconds into the video, & I stopped it to write this: "Super-Duper, the Taurus has more capacity. But, I ran around w/ an SR22 for over TEN YEARS, before you ever HEARD of theTX22. 😤
Taurus
TX22 is the king of .22LR pistols!!!
Ruger is safer and Better, fixed barrel and better all around mine has the moonshine undertow camo in blue, almost one of a kind, customized by Ruger ..
Why do you need to pull the trigger without the magazine in the gun doing that sounds like and accident waiting to happen
So you can drop a single round in the chamber and shoot. What if you lose the mag in a survival situation and still have ammo? Most all other handguns fire without a mag in the firearm. It’s just annoying and frankly worse as lots of people store firearms with the firing pin dropped so you’d pull the trigger to drop it, and if you have to put the magazine in to do that you increase the potential of accidentally loading it.
glocks the same
Dry fire training possibly
Tx22 compact
Só Br gosto muito TAURUS ARMAS
Tx 22 👑
Keltec P17.
0:34 is the camera shaking or you?
Too much caffeine that day. Lol
280 to 300 to 400 lmao big difference there lol I got them both taurus is better I'm thinking of trading or selling my sr22 I'd I get a decent enough deal
How would these compare to the walther p22?
Very comparable, The ruger SR-22 came out after the Walther. Not going to lie they slightly copied it.
My Walter P22 is VERY un-reliable. So much so I am going to send it back to the factory. I would go with the ruger or Taurus
@@Ironsight_Army I keep hearing that. What a shame.
@@Ironsight_Army I’m in the process of having them fix my P22. Still runs but little piece broke off by top cutout and cracked my daughters eye pro right where her pupil was! Thank god were smart enough to use proper safety gear or shed probably lost her left eye!!
Walther needs hot rounds to cycle. Ruger copied it but it will cycle subs.
TX 22 is not legal in NJ, which sucks. Can't have more than a 10 round magazine.
I believe they do make the 10 round capacity version as well.

To be expected they are out of stock but they do make them.
Would you carry it for self defense
Both are very reliable and if you don't have a 45acp, 40, 9mm or 380 22lr would be far better than nothing. So yes, I would if I didn't have those other options available I would carry either one.
@@9MilRidge I have all the others also. Although it would be much more cost effective to practice with. I saw 22plinkster say there's an adapter you can put on the mag for the Ruger that would make it fit 15 rounds.
Yeah I've heard that that adapter works well. 22s are far cheaper to keep up your skills. The glock 44 is now also a good option and is very reliable.
@@9MilRidge Gonna look into them both. Not a glock fan. Thanks for the replys
Daniel 22 is as deadliest as 9mm is were you aiming I could said were but rather not
☺👍
Ruger
Ambi dex TREE us? Oh, ambidextrous.
Just out of curiosity what is the pin hole under rear sight on the SR22 for
I believe what you're talking about is the slide cross pin.
@@9MilRidge thanks. I was hoping it was for a slide adapter of sorts lol... wishful thinking.
That would be nice!
Mine was ammo picky first 750 rpinds r so. 3000 rounds later...it shoots EVERYTHING. I LOVE IT
@@theunforgivenpuritan4102 as if that makes up for the rest of it basically being toy grade? There are airsoft guns that are nicer than the SR22.
@@chevyon37s well to each their own. I enjoy shooting the sr22 over the Taurus. I have shot them both. The Taurus feels great but it is too light for me.

Resell on a Taurus is horrible !! I will stick to my Rugers !
Ruger 👍🇺🇸.
You say they’re very dangerous, I say only in the hands of an idiot.
taurus 100% not even close...
If you have to do that in then your most likely dead come on
