I always thought he was killed by an Alien Grunt that had busted into the room. That was until I found out that right after the radio cuts off, the entire complex is shaken by a mortar round striking the building above it. 2:21 "IFAK's gone" The soldier's first aid kit attached to his ankle was gone meaning his lower leg was blown off or was completely missing below the ankle either due to an explosion or something else. Most likely bled out or lost consciousness at the end. Pretty neat piece of world building there.
