  • The book of Romans says that we are altogether unrighteous, therefore the grave awaits us. So what can we do? Is there a way to righteousness? How can someone be declared righteous by God? In this message, Dr. Sproul teaches us the most glorious and Christ honoring way, as he affirms that salvation is by “Faith Alone.”
This is the 5th in a series of messages by Dr. Sproul on Reformed theology. See other videos in the series: • What Is Reformed Theol...

Great teaching. Justification by faith alone is so very important to the Gospel message and a Biblical understanding of salvation that Martin Luther described it as being “the article with and by which the church stands.” Those who reject sola fide reject the only Gospel that can save them and by necessity embrace a false gospel.
Sola fide, which means "faith alone," is important because it is one of the distinguishing characteristics or key points that separate the true biblical Gospel from false gospels.

The English word "BELIEVE" (verb) in the Spiritual context and meaning is like a Collective Noun (ex. Family, Company, Choir, Herd, etc.) which comes with 3 Components for the Salvation of Mankind, "By GRACE of God through FAITH in Christ Jesus that manifests in good/righteous WORKS."
    Therefore, in conclusion, the Spiritual Formula/Equation for Mankind Salvation is... [ GRACE (+) FAITH (x) WORK (=) SALVATION ]... (ref. John 3:15 / 3:36 / 11:25-26 /James 2:1-24 )...
While St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians and Romans (ref. Eph. 2:8-9 / Rom. 3:20) means that "Personal WORKS (Efforts) ALONE" and "WORKS of the LAW" can not SAVE us... But for our Personal "WORKS" (efforts) to be accepted as Righteous in the Eyes/Sight of God... "WORK" must come first with "GRACE" of/from/by God through "FAITH" in Christ Jesus...
That is the ORDER of SALVATION (Grace, Faith, and Work) for Father God/YHWH is a "God of ORDER" and not of Chaos or Confusion... (ref. 1 Corin. 14:33)...
Facts and Truth, Biblically and Logically speaking... Praise be to God in Christ Jesus... Amen.

"A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so also you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35.
"So too, faith by itself, if it is not complemented by action, is dead." James 2:17.
"As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." James 2:26.
"And our people must also learn to devote themselves to good works in order to meet the pressing needs of others, so that they will not be unfruitful." Titus 3:14.
"Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality." Romans 12:13
"Bear you one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2.
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
    2 Peter 1:5-8.
"Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:44-46.

I do not discount the value of good works. Rather I say, that the good works are the fruit of our faith. Also, these good works done in faith are sacraments unto themselves. These are not rituals to be performed to be justified, but rather a response to the mercy of God.
Thus in book of Galatians Paul writes: "But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is *evident*: for, The just shall live by faith" (emphasis mine)

    - The 5 keys of Calvinism:
*1.* "God" is so so sovereign and loving that creates 100 depravated persons who hate him.
*2.* But before creating them, he lovingly chooses 90 to be in hell forever.
*3.* He is very merciful so he send his son to die for the 10 he has chosen.
*4* "God" lovingly forces this 10 to believe in his son.
*5.* Finally he forces this 10 to enter in heaven, although some of them returned to their old life, finishing worst than when they met "God".

St. Augustine commentary on James 2 uses the term "faith alone" Luther didn't make this up.
And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. - James 2:23 That Abraham believed God deep in his heart is a matter of faith alone, but that he took his son to sacrifice him . . . is not just a great act of faith but a great work as well. (Sermons 2.9) - Augustine of Hippo
And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. - James 2:23 Abraham is the image of someone who is justified by faith alone, since what he believed was credited to him as righteousness. But he is also approved because of his works, since he offered up his son Isaac on the altar. (Gen 22:10-18) Of course he did not do this work by itself; in doing it, he remained firmly anchored in his faith, believing that through Isaac his seed would be multiplied until it was as numerous as the stars - Oecumenius

    What is true faith?
Here is a summary of what RC teaches here.
    Justification by faith alone.
Which is theological shorthand for justification by Christ alone.
    Who's faith? Your faith.
What is faith according to RC?
In this video he presented this as faith.
    Three steps of faith.
    I) Information
    2) Intellectual ascent, you have to agree that Jesus died for your sins.
    3) Personal trust and reliance.
In another lecture he did, called "what is faith?", which is also found on this youtube channel, he said this.
Faith is a combination of reason and sense perception, and the apposite of faith is a combination of superstition and credulity.
So in both explanations of faith, it has to do with a personal experience.
    It is your faith.
So justification by faith alone, which he said is theological shorthand for justification by Christ alone.
Which is justification by your faith alone.
So which is it, Your faith alone, or Christ alone?
Is this another one of those reformation ideas?
That it is an apparent contradiction/paradox?
    That they are both true?
Here is what all the reformers miss.
    Faith is Jesus.
    Justification by Faith/Jesus alone.
    No contradiction.
There are many verses that say Jesus is faith.
    Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the (faith of Jesus Christ), even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the (faith of Christ), and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
    -----
Faith is the fruit of the Spirit.
Repent and believe the Gospel and you will receive the gift of faith, which is the fruit of the Spirit, which comes in with the Holy Spirit.
    Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, (faith),
What is the armour of God?
Do not all the pieces belong to God?
    Ephesians 6:16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
    ---
Faith has nothing to do with conjuring up something from within yourself. It is not a personal experience.
Faith is a gift, faith is Jesus.
Both Calvinists and Armenians have no real hope of eternal security, for you need true faith, Jesus is that faith.
Repent and believe the Gospel, and you will be given the gift of faith, and have full assurance of eternal life, for Jesus is faith, it is his faithfulness that holds onto the child of God.
    Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
    Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    ----
The title of this video is, What is faith?
    Its not what, its who.
Who is faith? The Son of God, Jesus Christ the Righteous.
True faith is a gift from God, which is the person of Jesus Christ, which is given through the Holy Spirit. Repent and believe the Gospel, and you will receive the gift of true faith, and full assurance of eternal life.

This could not happen without the works of the apostles, their successors, and those who followed Jesus. Why do you interject Luther into your comments when you yourself are not a Lutheran? Luther added the word alone to Romans 3:28 and then questioned the divine inspiration of the book of James because it didn't seem to support his salvation theology. Just Google - Luther added the word "alone," and read up. My question for you Dr. Sproul is why don't you ever mention this fact in your teaching? Maybe a better question is; is Luther your Pope?
