Stevie Wonder on harmonica. El Debarge on lead vocals and piano .
Didn't know that! Stevie is the GOAT!
Excellent song by Debarge. That's Stevie on harmonica.
Yep. Every time you hear that specific harmonica sound, it's him. He's in so many songs.
DeBarge was that group in the early to mid 1980s...a very talented family.
I'm a 70's baby - 80's child. I am so grateful for the era of music I witnessed. Musical groups, supergroups, solo artists, Motown legends, disco artists - all had a place on the radio dial. The advent of funk, disco, rap, BET, MTV and new-jack. We had dueling superstars like MJ vs Prince. I took it for granted that it would last forever. But, it was not to be. Thank you so much for letting us re-live this great era through your eyes.
stevie wonder is playing the harmonica on this song
The great thing about this group is that they wrote all of their songs . Listen to El De Barge as he moves from his natural tenor to the falsetto so effortlessly. Well done my friend, keep searching for great old songs.
My absolute favorite Debarge song....
This is my favorite song by them and Stevie Wonder was playing the harmonica. Anytime you heard a harmonica on a song during that time that was him.
I knew it was probably him, every time I hear a harmonica I think Stevie.
Wait til you hear "Stay with me", "I like it", and "All this love" by Debarge!
I hope you listened to it again and again. This one’s a classic!! Debarge is definitely one of the GOAT!! ❤️
Two of their older brothers were a part of a group called Switch - There’ll Never Be, I Call Your Name
💖This is my fave! Love the harmonies!💖 I think that's Stevie on the harmonica.
Yup it is Stevie
At the beginning that was most likely El DeBarge playing piano. They learned to sing and play music in church - so you were hearing gospel chords at the beginning of the song. Thank you for the reaction to this great song.
Beat wasn’t missin in the beginning bruh, it’s just an artist’s approach to building, like layers: 1st verse serves like an intro to what the song is sayin, which is what they want listeners to get into before the bear come in & you start rockin & not hearin what is really saying.
Bruuuuuuh This Is My All Time Favorite Debarge Song Aww Man El Debarge Was An Underrated Writer & Proudcer 💯 You Also Gotta Check Out Time Will Reveal the first single off that if you haven't already and Share My World off their last and final album Rhythm Of The Night
Stevie on harmonica! 🤗
That's when slow jams made you feel the song with strong emotions. There was more love in it than just sex. This song to me is one of the greatest love songs of all time! #Lovemyera💪
Obsessed with this band! I grew up listening to them. I love them so much. I love every freaking song.
This song is straight church. If it doesn’t move you...you already dead.
This family is special! The epitome of talent!
One of my absolute favorites of El DeBarge! I seen him twice live once in the 80’s and another time in 2014,both times he was amazing ❤️ One of the best male voices ever! You should Check out his tiny desk concert, it was done six months ago and the man’s voice doesn’t miss a beat! This song is at the very end of the concert.
love this song. 😭
Completely forgot about this song....Debarge was such a great underrated group....this is a 83 hit....btw....i completely disagree when you say El Debarge sounds like MJ....sounds nothing like him....El Debarge has his own unique voice that you know its him when you hear him....great choice
If anything. El and Bobby had similar styles.
Debarge did get a lot of comparisons to the Jackson 5, just for El’s high voice alone. But, true their voices weren’t that similar to me at all
@@BrothaJ365 I mean, I can kinda see why they compared the two, only based on that there were 5 in both groups and they were both with Motown. But to me, that's where the comparison ends. Besides the fact that Bunny was part of DeBarge, they had their own style that sounded nothing like Jackson 5. Dancing Machine and Rhythm of the Night do not sound the same. None of it does.
Jay Kemp...LOVE ME IN A SPECIAL WAY. was not a 1983 Hit. Motown released this as a Single. in February of 1984.
Great album. Song was mad popular across the board (generational) because of the gospel feel.
Love this song.
Classic!!!👍🏿 This song probably would make you feel different if you were in or are in a relationship. Songs have different meaning based upon how well you relate to the lyrics. One day you'll play this song because the lyrics remind you of a situation in which a female took you and your love for granted. And treated you like she treated other men instead of treating your relationship special. And now you'll find yourself crying to a song you thought needed to grow on you lol.
WOW!
Oh ya, this is such a memory trigger, just wonderful.
That whole album was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Aw man, this is one of my all time personal classics, one for the fellas! I’m special dammit! 😎
This song has an old school gospel feel....
I think El said he wrote this when he was 16
That was Time Will Reveal that he wrote at 16 .

💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 Memories
El wrote this at 16!. On the low this family vocally is more talented than the Jacksons from top to bottom. After MJ the Jackson's vocally fall way off. Janet is an icon no doubt but she can't mess with Bunny Debarge vocally. Bobby ( of Switch) and El sing that highest register from the chest and it's a lot stronger than MJ and Prince who sing that high from their head voice. The rest of the family are great with Harmony and the worst singer Chico Debarge knows his limitations and was able to bang out a couple of underrated albums in the late 90's. They were also more hauntingly self destructive than any other family, the Debarge father made Joe Jackson look like a boy scout.
With all due respect...Jermaine Jackson can sing, although he never blew up like Michael, he had a string of hits in the 80's, was very talented as a writer, and producer...and he's the one that put Switch on, making the path clear for Debarge to come on the scene. He also wrote, produced...and sung background vocals on a few Switch songs. He ALSO helped jump start Whitney Houston's career...writing, producing, and singing on some classic duets. "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do"..."If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful". Aside from El & Bobby he could sing every other Debarge under the rug. Don't sleep on Jermaine...give the man has props.
@@randymccloud5743 True!. However Bunny was Nooo Joke. Listen to " You're so gentle You're so kind" from the first Debarge album. Jermaine could sing for sure but I'm still going Debarge.
@@creditorclass6513 I agree with most of what you said but El and Bobby do not have a stronger chest voice than MJ. You can argue the falsetto part but the chest/mixed voice, not at all. El and Bobby could never sing “Earth Song,” “Beat It” or “Dirty Diana.” I agree though overall Debarge are better singers. None of the Jackson girls can sing as good as Bunny and the Debarge brothers are better singers than the Jackson brothers (with the exception of Michael)
@@mikereynolds7373 Not true Reebie could really sing
@@linked2you371 Not better than Bunny though
So many slow dances to this! I still love it!
Thats Steveland Morris playing harmonica on that track young master.
Gots to be Stevie on harmonica, no doubt.
You should check out their younger brother Chico DeBarge, Iggin’ me, Listen to Your Man, and No Guarantee featuring Joe. Also, their older brothers Bobby and Tommy in a group called Switch, I Call Your Name, They’ll Never Be. They were one of the most talented families in music.
Is that Stevie Wonder playing that harmonica in Love Me In Special Way?
The Flower 🌹
Yes it is
It strange to hear that this year Bunny Debarge became a senior citizen. How fast time passes.
They were related to the group Switch. But all in all I remember there was a BUNCH of them thankfully.
Stevie wonder on harmonica
All the debarge brothers can hit that high octave. All of them. I used to have a crush on the sister bunny. Sad to see how most of them turned out , drug addicted.
o my the memories...young man you are tops for doing all these "classics" kent in ohio...
Would love to hear your viewers quiz you on 90's hip hope samples from Tribe CQ, Re La Soul, etc.
Love this song.
El was the equal of MJ in the day and he’s still glorious
MJ, had no equal!
I knew it, Stevie playing the harmonica
Please go to school for ethnomusicology. You are natural. The field need more perspectives like yours.
Are you really ready to do this or are you just doing it?
The fact that these kids appear to have such a disconnect from our culture is shocking 😅 how did you not hear this track growing up
I grew up in a southern Christian home, nuff said.
